Very clever using the tomahawk to raise your pack a little! At the end, the whole pack comes across as hybrid master piece. Between the old school canvas look, the luxurious brown leather, the knife with the decorative metal pommel, and that cute little foxtail, it all just works together wonderfully. If you ever retire from bushcrafting, you could donate that pack to a museum of modern art!
Thanks William for your positive and kind feedback on my rucksack 👍🏻😁 It’s amazing how great an observer you are and eyes for details 😉🤗 I believe we think alike … Atb to you 😎
I think it’s great 👍🏻 😁 But it can’t replace a good axe or hatchet for cutting firewood For small tasks and for playing it’s great 😎💪🏻🌲 Atb to you 🌤🔥⛺️🌳🦌
Hello, I have a question. Would I Get the same result if I were to use Birchwood Casey-Gun Blue? I’ve looked for the one you have but it seems like it can only be bought in Germany, or on fully German websites. I really want to make a tomahawk with a similar method to this, if the one I mentioned wouldn’t work, do you know any others that would? M
great backpack. want to buy me this, but as it is a bit expensive I must first convince myself that it is worth all the money. therefore I think it is nice to watch your videos so I get a glimpse of it. How long have you used the backpack and are you happy with it after you test it during this period? I also wonder where you bought these side pockets in skin and how they are mounted? have a nice day! greeting christian from norway :)
Hi Christian 👋🏻 great to hear from you 👍🏻😁 I’ve had the rucksack for 2 years and I’m still very happy for it. It’s a great quality and it’s still as good as new. The side bags in leather I have made my self a I talk a bit about it in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G2RCeuFJrz0.html I can only recommend my Frost River Isle Royale JR and I think it’s worth the money 👌🏻 Atb to you my friend 🌤🔥🌲
@@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag Thanks for quick reply :) Great video a good piece of needlework! You are incredibly skilled at creating nice custom solutions. I have a granfors use small forest axe. I think maybe it will be difficult to have it in the axe-sleave if the bag is to stand upright on the ground:( Seeing that there are many websites that have this bag, do you know who sells it most cheaply? R. Chris:)
Hi Chris. Maybe your axe will fit 🤔 I don’t know … how long is it ? … and regarding the price … I believe it’s almost the same price all over the world Where do you live ? USA 🇺🇸?
@@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag I live in Norway:) The axe is 50 cm long. Okay, have the feeling that this is going to be expensive anyway hehe., Here in norway you also have to pay 25% tax :( stupid rule!
Really enjoy your videos,I like your style, old school cool.I to prefer waxed canvas, leather, brass.I hope you continue to make your wonderful videos and sharing your awesome skills.Saying hello from Wild,Wonderful, West Virginia.Peace, brother
Hello Tom, Excellent job customizing your tomahawk! You made it look very old school. I like the style of your gear it all fits together so well. Very well thought out and the pieces you’ve made are very well done. I really enjoy your channel. You have the perfect blend of sharing your gear setup, teaching bush craft skills and letting us tag along with you on your trips in the forest. Well done! I hope you and your family enjoy the rest of the week. Thank you for sharing.
That’s great Carson 👍🏻😁 I’m glad you like it and for subscribing to my channel. If you get any questions … don’t hesitate to ask. Hope you and your family are all well and I hope to see you again soon 🏕 Tom
Hi Paul 👋🏻😁 I’ve actually customised an other tomahawk years ago … and wanted to make a new and more robust one. Can’t remember how I got the idea Thanks for your feedback 😉
Oh and when burning your handles be careful cuz you can overdo it and actually work the wooden handle very easily by burning it too much too quick I had to happen to me and it was terrible
… yes … sorry ☺️ It is called “ Brünierung” and is made by a company called Schnell 😉 I believe it comes in many variations … gun black etc… It’s very easy to use and protects the metal very well Hope you can find it where you live … or on the web 🤗 Thanks for your question 👌🏻
Looks fantastic I did the same thing with my crkt chogan except I cut the back Palmer off and then cut it down real short but it still has a hammering surface but I did take a file and put lines in mine just like yours and black and the head but you do good work will be excited to see other videos you come out with keep it up
Thanks Rodrigo for your feedback and question 😁👍🏻 It’s called “brunerung” here in Europe … perhaps “ gunblack” other places 🤔 In my video where I do my Esse 5 I showed the product … check it out 🏕 Tom
I shortened it so it can fit on my rucksack … I think it’s ok Not when I throw it 🤔 but I hardly use it for that 😉 Thanks for your feedback Hope you’ll have a great day
Great job man , I love tomahawks , Hatchets , And about any kind of ax . I do not know how many I even have , But some of mine are Native American Pipe Hawks . I like them real well .
Waw I wish I had one of those 😉👍🏻. Great with a original design and with a history 🇩🇰 Appreciate your feedback Billy and I hope to see you again on my next one 🔥🏕🦌🌲 Tom
My friend another awesome video, I’m in love with that knife, so small, it looks very handy to use, and wow you did an outstanding job on the tomahawk, you made it look old, you sir have a very well deserved talent, and finally those crazy add newspapers lol got well used, thank you so much for taking the time and teaching us, May the Good Lord bless you and yours
Thank you so much Richard for your always positive feedback and kind comment I’m very happy you like my modifications and old style Atb to you and your family 😁
Really think that’s an outstanding tomahawk especially for the price. Nothing like making your Tool unique and I think the just look better. I also love to gun blue my carbon knives & axes and have just used mustard to patina them. Great modification on your pack!!! Take care and I’m really enjoying your channel!!!
That's great! I've been thinking about a tomahawk as my next piece of kit. I really like the way you made it your own and made it work for your bag! Great job Tom! I've been throwing an ax for a while, lots of fun. Ax throwing has become popular in the states and there are many places to go learn technique and enjoy some fun competition! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Chuck for your positive feedback and comment. Yes I’ve heard that it’s a big thing in the states too throwing and I’m going to give it a try 👍🏻😁 Hope too see some more videos from you soon. Atb to you my friend 😃
Davs Tom, what a marvellous custom job you have done to both the tomahawk and your rucksack. Your leatherwork is very very good and does not look commercial at all. I like! The tomahawk definitely looks old school now and I also like it very much. Congratulations. I think I will send my tomahawk to you now for customisation, hahaha. What make is your rucksack? Pas på dig selv.
That's a great job. It's beautiful, and looks like a hawk that cost far more than this one does. I just recently bought a CRKT tomahawk like that one. I go an extremely good deal because of a coupon at twenty bucks, so I grabbed it. I believe these cost just about fifty dollars when they came out, and still cost at least thirty most paces. I haven't had the chance to do any mods yet, but I have chopped and cut a lot with this thing, and it does everything I've tried better than some much more expensive tomahawks. The first thing I like to do after using the tomahawk enough to get a feel for it is to whittle a new handle using just a knife. This way, I'll have some experience under my belt should I have to carve a new handle in the woods. I have noticed that it doesn't hold an edge as well as another I have made of 5160, but still holds it more than well enough for everything I do with a hawk, and it's very easy to sharpen. I do think a hawk does a better job with a long handle, though. The reach and leverage are important when you have a tool that's as light as a hawk. But I carry a hawk on belt, rather than on my pack The exception is when I carry it on the back of my haversack, which is also traditional. Anyway, that's another reason to sit down with a knife and make a new handle. You'll not only gain experience making that particular handle, but you'll then have handles of different lengths so you can do whatever the occasion calls for. Throwing, too, is better and easier with a long handle. Throwing isn't difficult, even at fairly long range. I've been throwing a hawk for more than fifty years. I had eight friends when I was a kid, and we all threw hawks and knives almost every day, and by the time we were twelve, we were pretty good. The one thing I would strongly suggest is to buy at least three hawk. Throwing is a LOT of fun, but the less often you have to go retrieve your hawk, the better. You should also make or buy a couple of spare handles. Chances are you'll break a handle now and then when first learning how the throw.
Thanks James for sharing your experience with us 👍🏻😁 It’s awesome that you have used a tomahawk since childhood 👌🏻 Tomahawks is not so common in Denmark and often only used as a decorative piece we can hang on the wall. I’m looking forward to using it and seriously consider making my own handle 👍🏻🤗 Thanks for your tips. Atb to you and your family
It is easy to throw, just take 6 normal steps from your target, just come forward, do not flip the hawk, just open your hand like you were shanking hands with someone.
You will definitely know that you messed up the leverage of the tomahawk by shortening the handle when it takes you more time to cut through something ,. There are two things you don’t do when you have a tomahawk #1 never ever carve into the handle & #2 never ever shorten the handle .
Thank you so much Robert for sharing your opinion with us about Tomahawk … and I’m sure your right 👍🏻😊 … however … I mostly use mine as an axe and not for throwing And as you can see in my video, I have customised it so it has a supporting purpose on my rucksack also 🤔 Hope you’ll have a nice weekend 🌤🌲🔥🐻
