Bacon and eggs, prayers, simple living, and an appreciation of the small delights like flowers and rain. Not to mention you're passing it all on to the next generation - you're doing it right, Dave.
Nothing better than rain falling on a tin roof while sitting by a log fire. I've learned so much from watching your videos as well as Brooke's thank you. 👌 😎
So good to see you and your boy spending such special time together. I have two sons who I love dearly. Spending time with them keeps me going day to day. God bless Dave.
Great video Dave. I have an "Off Grid" cabin here in south Louisiana. Love watching your video's; they're inspiring and you give me ideas for my lil cabin. I love the way you and Brooke always give thanks before your meals. Stay safe!
How peaceful is that. I would love to relax with a good book listening to the 🌧. I love how y'all always take time to thank the Lord for your food and blessings of life
This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things ru-vid.comUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.
In India, we channel all rainwater that falls on the roof in a barrel. Usually a few hundred litres. Alternatively, if we have land like this, we dig holes on the slopes wherever possible, lay a huge tarp in it and cover it with a grill to filter out basic debris. The more water collected the better.
After 11 hours holding a steering wheel today , watching and listening to You narrate about Your slice of Alaska and listening to the sounds of nature is a perfect ending to my day! Thanks Dave!
Lived in North Pole Ak. Briefly in 2008. Got to explore country north of Fairbanks at 4 in morning...surreal encounter with massive grey wolf. Loved my time there. Enjoy your time with son.
@Chris Viggiano I agree with the need to go to church. I would never live more than an hours drive to a church like my own. Prayer is good, but you need a regular meal. The word of God is the bread of life. Vaughn
Just a very calming video! Nice to see your Boy there with you and in the Video. Will Brooke and Bella join you guys up there or is this a Men only trip? Thanks for sharing ❤
I love your place and I could sleep like a baby with the sound of rain on the roof. You all amaze me with the accomplishments you have made with the property. Only one thumbs up but should of been more.
Congratulations on hitting 100,000. I noticed a couple weeks ago you were getting close Glad you finally made it Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Best of luck going forward
I know what you mean. Brooke and I built our first cabin outside of Fairbanks Alaska 20 years ago and it was pretty normal up here ( bad ground) ( no water) ( outhouse) . The Fairbanks area is full of what they call "dry cabins". Some have power , some dont, none have running water, all have outhouses. I never thought back then that people would be so interested in that sort of living.
@@Bushradical i want to sell everything I own and build a cabin somewhere, I would really like help, a companion.. Your life inspires me brother, I'm 24 and I rent in Alberta Canada in a small city. I don't have many skills but I have the dreams and willingness to learn. How do I start this I have no land land is very expensive around here not to mention the lumber price. I seen your 2400 dollar cabin you build. Priorities... I can do it.
When you build a home off grid, do you have to follow local building codes? I'm extremely familiar with multiple trades and could do most the work myself.
Hi Dave, what a nice video. I just got back from our cabin in Swedish Lapland after spending a month out there. We haul our water from the potable lake. It's pretty unbelievable that we do everything in it except for the numbers 1&2. Bath, drink, do dishes, fish and so on...such a precious thing. We are back in Finnish Lapland now. We also live by the river here but I wouldn't drink the water unless I boil it. Water is water but it's such a privilege taken for granted in our part of the world.
Thank you for SHARING your VIDEO... off grid is a awesome way of living... takes you back to when everything we did meant it's for tomorrow... And it all turns out to be perfect... thank you...
Love watching both you and Brooke , the sound of the rain puts me to sleep 😴. I love that you are Christians we are also , what a beautiful place you have in Alaska and the u p of Michigan . Liked your video there drilling a well . Thx for sharing your adventures with us . 💕💕
I noticed the last name of Messer. My people settled in the Cincinnati area in the early 1870's after leaving Germany. My great great grandfather was one of the first graduates from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. He moved his family to Santa Paula, California in the early 1890's. One of his sons had a ranch around Lancaster, California. My great grandfather, while on the wagon train, was left in Missouri after he caught malaria. He ended up staying in Missouri after falling in love with his nurse. Here he stayed and here I am as well. Take care and stay healthy. Vaughn
Such a simple take on 'chillin' ' at the cabin with your nice young man = BLESSED! You KNOW this and it comes through all your vids = DEEP APPRECIATION of Life! Even though I am an ol' widow watchin', and it is not my lifestyle (though I have dreamt about it often) I am happy to see you enjoying this kind of life = BLISS! Keeping God in your life (prayer B 4 meals etc.) keeps a flow of good things coming...you learn how to profit from ALL that comes your way in peace! Health and God's continued abundant blessings upon you n' yours!
First off love your channel. It’s crisp, clean and stunning in its cinematography. And you have a great narrators voice. You should look into doing narration / voice over work.
This reminded me off the why to old nature shows used to be. Very peaceful and with the narration style makes it more realistic and serene. I learn so much from you and your wife’s channel. I also love the fact that you pray. Do you have a video on how to make the shower system that you have set up? I’d like to set one up too. I like that stainless steel water pump thing.
Thank you for sharing your skills. I cant believe how much of this I’ve forgotten since living it as a kid. My parents and their parents were mountain people, who didn’t really care if the power ever went out! ;) Your videos give me a lot of pride in the skills I learned from them, especially when i recognize the same pail or tool that they used.
I heated water and put in a 5 gallon bucket and beat with a long "stick" and used old soap stone sink like they use all over Mexico with a bowl to rinse
Just amazing the peacefulness of the rain and his voice. He is truly thankful for all he has. And bringing his son up to be just as thankful is such a wonderful thing to see. God bless. Give Maisey Daisey a kiss for me. I love dogs 😊🐺
The only thing that I didn't like about this video is that I could only give it 1 thumbs up. I liked seeing you giving thanks and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Be safe and be blessed. And be radical eh!
That was neat seeing you and your son up there. Does your daughter ever come with you? I've never seen either one of them. You'd make a super meteorologist. You were spot on. Stay safe up there and enjoy your trip.
Hi ya, I liked the video & I was looking for the link of your metal canister shower pumper thing, I like that...Is it 2 or 3 gallons? Take Care💒 You & Brooke have taught me so much❗
Such amazing atmosphere in this video, which you captured so well. I really felt like I was there, taking in the scenery and the rain. I had to brew some tea and cozy up along with you! Thanks for sharing this.
I have plans to move and live off grid one day I just hope and pray that this country doesn’t fall due to Gods wrath before then. Godbless and your a true inspiration for many. 🙏🏻
Nothing like drinking nice fresh rainwater. We have rainwater tanks at home and that is all I use for drinking. Love the flavour. Your cabin looks to be in a gorgeous, peaceful spot.
Been watching a few of your uploads, they are outstanding. A lot of your videos are about the building process, but please do more on cabin living aspect (like this one). I could watch these for hours. Learning a lot as well. Thanks for uploading.
I like watching your videos, especially how thankful you are the blessings before your meals is what got me ,it's so refreshing to see people thanking the Lord. Keep up the good work God Bless you and your family.stay safe
Cabin is awesome and whole property setup turned out great ,, chow looks first class,, now grab that fishing gear and head out to a river or pond and have a little fun catchin' dinner......and Always ,, Stay Safe and God Bless...
I dig your style. I'm a new subscriber who is about to take the off-grid plunge. The wife and I live on the Wisconsin/UP border and are done with the rat race. I've been ready for years but the little lady has been a tough sell, though she is coming around. She told me recently, "All I want is a hot shower and a clean toilet." I told her that I can make that happen. So I've spent the last few years looking at land that we can afford, researching a minimal solar/generator set-up, learning about simple gray water systems, sand points and composting outhouses. I think we have a lot of hard work ahead of us but nothing beyond our abilities or work ethic. Your videos are helping me keep my eyes on the prize. Thank you!
get another two barrels with over flow pipes at the top so as one barrel fills the other one as it becomes full ...have the first barrel up high then the second a little lower and the third a little lower than the second....but you already know this..you are living the dream friendo..!
We had that old Coleman cooler! That is straight up 70's retro! Love it, it was the best. It was way stronger than what I can buy now. Used it for years at our camp in the Conowango Valley in southern New York
Probably one of the most relaxing videos I've watched and I love the content!! I was absolutely blessed to find you are a brother in Christ. Hope your stay is as epic as this video!!
I appreciate your prayers, thanking Jesus God for the blessings of food. I pray with my daughters every time we eat together since they were born. God bless you brother. Amen. Geoffrey from Grand Junction Colorado.
