The World I Know (Video) by Collective Soul (c) 1995 Atlantic Recording Corporation for the United States and WEA International Inc. for the world outside of the United States.
This video makes me cry but it also gives me hope. The first time I saw it, one of my best friends had just committed suicide. I was so sad watching the things happening in the video to all the people and the guy climbing the building. I thought he was about to jump until something as simple and precious as a bird landing on his hand brought joy and color back into his world. I love songs/videos with powerful messages. I have major depression. Suicide is NOT the solution. Life gets better!
Yes guys, life always gets better no matter how much it sucks at the moment!! Great song with an awesome message. Hang tight because your life is worth everything!❤
This is a great song. I heard it when I was out last night in NYC. Sitting & listening to this was a sureal experience. I was completely captivated. One of the best songs of the 90s.
I love this song. I didn't fully appreciate it at the time, as I was very young. But each scene in the video has a powerful meaning: The sad man feeling like he is trapped in a filthy city, full of routine, surrounded by other lost people.....yet he sees a homeless woman ask for help, no one helps her, not even him. As he sits down, he realizes no one helped....& feels bad that he didn't, then looks sadder still when someone tramples the dandelion that struggled to grow in a cracked sidewalk. He reads horrific news stories, it tips his sadness over the edge,....& decides to end it. But as he finally begins to let himself fall.....a bird just lands on his hand. It looks peaceful, utterly calm. He looks awed & startled & happy. I always thought the bird landing on his arm was God or an angel, letting him know its all right to stay....that they are 'seen', they're important. The bird is showing its trust of him also, a rare blessing he sees how all these events connect: The bagel he bought....he can feed his new friend. Ants are helped too. He realizes lastly that humans 'look like ants' from his vantage point, which may be how God looks down on us......that no matter if its ants or birds or humans......we're ALL important in His eyes :) So he laughs joyously at this realization & 'feeds' humans his money....& is comforted.
Great video. The moral, nothing in this world matters but Love. And love comes from Almighty God. The world is a mindless rat race, and without Gods love, you will surely die.
The world I used to know was not what it is today . Not people not the entire world. So the world knows now is live it to you fullest and best and enjoy it cause one day you won't have it. Just flow ... Is what I say. Flow... With it and take in what you are thought and learn from it and enjoy it .
Has our conscience shown? Has the sweet breeze blown? Has all kindness gone? Hope still lingers on I drink myself of new-found pity Sitting alone in New York City And I don't know why Are we listening? To hymns of offering? Have we eyes to see Love is gathering? All the words that I've been reading Have now started the act of bleeding Into one, into one So I walk up on high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know Oh. It's the world I know I drink myself of new-found pity Sitting alone in New York City And I don't know why Don't know why So I walk up on high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know Oh. It's the world I know Yeah, I walk up on high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know Oh. It's the world I know
I have to admit that this version is SUPERB!!!! AND I hope I am not the only man crying. It is so profound that it gets to the depths of the soul. Thanks for posting this video.
This song makes me contemplate whats going on in the world and specifically in my life. Love it, any music that can send a message and sound good is a work of art.
Just hang on...Stay strong...The message this song brought so many years ago...blows my mind! It hurts an its beautiful. But at the end....Brilliant! Thank you so much
I remember when this video first came out. I thought it was so powerful, and even after all the years its lost NONE of its emotional power. Gets to me every single time I see it! Awesome video, makes you really 'think'. I also thought the actor in this video did a terrific job, he was so believable!
At 2:09, when you see that Ross is sitting in the seat on the buss next to Ed; it reminds me of that male bonding moment the two of them must have had, when they knew Ed's wife was having Ross's baby. This song is so amazing.
Are we listening? Have we eyes to see? It's hard when we've been blinded by greed, aggression, and insensitivity. Great song about the danger of not being connected.
I'm 57 years old, and I just can't get adjusted to this type of life. I have been getting very cranky.at my age you just don't let nobody mess with me.
This video is loaded with meaning, and is spot-on representative of society today. How the hell can you call it stupid? Stupid is the trash you see on MTV these days. Guess it's true that today's youth has no taste.
Thier song is so powerful that it touches your soul, it came from thiers straight to yours and then some!!! I've always loved collective soul music and videos and always will. It cuts deep and you feel it as your tears run down your face, and you just know by that alone. Their one of a kind!!! Hope to see them live one day, it would be an honor. Keep up your great songs C.S. I like R.E.M,s song everybody hurts, but I love yours better, because it's got more to it!! Cheers, and to anyone that's really hurt, be strong , be healed, and joy to your soul for with joy there's bliss, and bliss is from the Divine and divine is forever . When it comes to living, dieing is the easy part, so choose life not death, your divine and you should remember that, 😇😇😇💪👍
