In this video I do exactly what I said I wouldnt in the last episode and add static filters to the white noise to create other "colors" of noise. So in the end we will have blue noise, white noise, pink noise and red noise. A very fitting module as we had a storm blowing through Sweden yesterday, and it did sound quite a lot like the red noise example in this video :)

Full disclosure, I found your channel after I'd gotten frustrated that LookMumNoComputer hadn't done a VCA and was only releasing videos for his diy synth series once every couple months... That being said, WOW!!! This series is AMAZING! I wish it had existed and I'd found it about 3-4 years ago when I was first getting interested in modular because back then I'd considered making modules from scratch like this but was too intimidated. I'm excited to see more stuff from you! If I might make a suggestion, after you're done with this series I think it would be an interesting idea to do a series on adapting some of the multitude of diy guitar pedal designs into modular synth effect modules. Thanks again for amazing content! You won a new subscriber today LOL

Thank you very much. Hope it will inspire many more to build their own modular. It really isn’t that difficult once you START.... that’s the hard part. ;) Funny how many people have the same ideas. The adaption or creating modules from stomp pedals has been another longtime idea I’ve had. And so you it seems. It would be nice to have some of the stomp effects in the rack. Like distortion, of, chorus, flangers etc etc. I have a couple of 2399 which will become a modular “soon” got a HUGE backlog... 😅

Hey@ - I would love to see the 2399 covered! I have ordered a ton of components online and already built a few projects from your videos. I'm dreaming of using several 2399 delay chips, using send/receive lines to various filters in my rack. I saw some interesting guitar pedals that did this. Thanks for advising us with the 1 nf capacitor, I was going on a 1 micro, that would have caused problems...euuw.

You can replace the ZENER diode with an NPN transistor (Collector is not used): www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/reverse-bias-npn-transistor-for-white-noise/

Hey Kristian, Thanks for this. Im from Argentina and already made some modules, one question.¿ Its posible to patch the others noises (white blue pink) to the 4046?, cause im trying to put together the simple white noise you made in other episode with the 4046 VCO and i dont get it. Hi Kristian. Can the TL071 be used instead of the CA3140? On the other hand I have used a Z12500 zener instead of the 1N759A (I think it is equivalent). The result of the circuit is what noise it makes, but not what is expected. Thank you very much for your help, and for your videos, I am learning a lot with them.

Hi Kristian! Let me ask you, both 074 and 3140 are fed with +-12V right? Niklas schem assumes I know :)

Also, have you tried the pseudo random circuit with it? I have a spare 3140, I think I'll go for it if this cames right

This schematic has a lot of non polarised caps, which type did you use? On the photos of teh original designer I see a mixture of wima and ceramic. Thanks.

I used what I had at hand. Probably mostly ceramics. I don’t think it is that important as it is a Noise module... ;)

Have a dumb question, can i use a 12v zener diode for 1watt? Cant find this diode 1N759A,and it seems its specs show 1/2 watt

Is the 3140 chip fed with +&- 12V or is negative grounded? My 3140 chip is burning up on +- voltages

same thing here! it did work with +12 and -12 but the output volume was really soft. after that i tried hooking the 3140 v- pin to ground and now it doesnt make any noise whatsoever. still have to find a solution.

3140 is deffinetly powered -12 and +12. i have signal on pin 6 of the 3140 but nothing on the output pin of the opamp.. so more troubleshooting it is.

Interestingly, I got all the colors to work except Red?!? Checked everything, wondering if it could be the chip. Thanks

Check again. ;) it must be something in the filter circuit. Probably the opamp is wrong connected. If you are 100% sure it is correct try replacing the chip. Or even better take a patch cable and follow the noise by touching the cable on solder Points and see where the noise stops. :)
