Digital noise is very different from analog noise. As digital noise is just pwm gone haywire or something. So it is square waves which are either 0v (0) or 5v (1) and done quickly enough it does sound like noise. Have a slower clock and you get random gates and clicks instead. Because a shift register is used there does come up a pattern which is noticeable in really high clock speeds.

I like the format of your videos. Thank you so much for not making the viewer sit through minutes of you putting parts into a breadboard. Then spend the majority of the video demonstrating how the it behaves.

Thank you. That is the hardest part of making a video. Make it short enough not to be boring, but still convey all the information that you want to share. :)

Reminds me of FX from Atari days, nice!

Yep. Digital noise is used in many ways in old 8 bit systems. Snares is done with gated digital noise I think. I have to try that! Thanks! :)

Thanks for making this great content. You inspire me to design and experiment! You've made it achievable for me to make my own modular synth.

That is great to hear. Hope you make a great modular. 🙌😁

Thanks! Phew. Good to hear they get better. It means I make progress ;). Let me know in good time if they get worse again. 😉

hi kristian, i have a question on the conections of the 4006, do pin 4 goes to pin 13 and 5 to 12 and 6 to 10 or im reading the schematic wrong? thanks in advance

Sorry for late reply, but yes, you are correct, pin 4-13 6-10 5-12 etc etc, just jumping the pins.

Love the sound but I can't get this one to work. Do both chips need +12v and -12v in pins 14 and 7? Also the 4.7uf capacitor.... does that go to +12v with the negative side connected to the 100k ,220k and diode? I'm doing something wrong for sure.

A few things. First you should NOT connect cmos chips eg the 4006 to plus and minus voltage. Use plus voltage on pin 14 and gnd on pin 7. Otherwise you might fry the chip. :/ Second this module won’t work without a clock input and it needs to be quite a fast one. So a square oscillator or similar should work. As for the caps I need to get back to you when I have the schematics in front of me.

Oh the 4070 should also have GND on pin 7. Not -12v! And yes the cap have the positive side toward +12v. This module does not need -12v at all I think. Only +v and gnd.

@ Thanks mate, you are a diamond geezer. Got it working, only fried one chip!

That’s great! Well sad about the one chip. But great you got it working. 👍

Hi Kristian First of all , Thanks a lot for all the Great content. I really like your Videos. I built this Module ( 2 times ) and with both of them i have the Same Problem ... it always stops Playing After a Short Time . Sometimes it starts again After a While and sometimes i have to turn of the Power of the modular and Turn it on again ... i checked the circuits at least 10 times But i can’t find an error .. than i Noticed that the Same thing happened with your Module at about 5:20 of this Video . How can i fix this and Does anyone Else had Problems like this ?! I thought that maybe grounding the unused inputs of the cd4070 Could change something because there is an article about cmos Chips am lunetta Synthesizers where they said something like this but the Problem is still there ... Thanks for your help. Best Regards

Thins for watching ;). Ok so I THINK that has to do with the circuit running too fast. When I reached the max speed on my oscillator clocking the module it always happened. But as soon as I stayed below max oscillation it works. I would say try grounding the other inputs. It can’t hurt and if it solves the problem I would like to know and I will stand corrected :)

Ok , thanks for the quick answer and i will tell you if groundig solves the Problem ...

Hi Kristian , grounding the other inputs makes no difference but i tried what you Said about staying below the Maximum oscillation Speed works fine. Thanks for the help and have a nice day

Ronnie Schleich thanks so much for getting back to me. Try to add a resistor I series with the pot to make sure that it is never in “max” positions.
