Colt Python: what I WISH I knew earlier…
Colt announced the reintroduction of the legendary python to considerable fanfare back in 2019. But despite the joyous occasion, this unbeatable classic Magnum has undergone considerable changes. In this video, I'll tell you everything that I wish I knew about the new Colt Python. Check out the video, then swing by the comments and let me know your thoughts about the revisions to the action. Knew someone that had an original Python in the late 70s early 80s,we were at a range and I had my 686 and a batch of my reloads,fellow asked if he could try my handloads fine no problem but there was a problem my handloads 357 mag consisting of a 170 gr SWC cast bullet were too long for his cylinder. Thought that was a bit strange but the video made a point of the original Python was a target gun not a duty gun. Now I know why the cylinder was a bit "short".

To me the python was the kind of revolver you take out of the case at the range, shoot, and put back into the case. The old action was very intricate and think a grain of sand could easily put it out of service.

The modern Python's are the better pistols. I will be purchasing the blued 6" Python due to my affinity for the Starsky and Hutch TV show.

I had an original 80's Blue 6" Python that I sold, and regretted it for years. Buttery smooth action. I was thrilled and jumped on a 4.25 " SS a couple years ago, and this past year jumped on the blue version in 6". I have replaced the front sight and added a Wilson Combat red fiber optic instead. Love it. Compared to the original? No stacking, like the greater durability and I am thrilled to have the new 6" Anaconda, and a new King Cobra in 2" for carry. I am a Colt fan....a revolver fan as well with 4 Smiths and even a 10mm Match Champion 4.25" Ruger too. They are the stick shift of guns!

Here I go again. Got to find another excuse to get another revolver. I do like the .357-mag cartridge. So the Colt Python will fit right in with my S&W-586. Trouble is should I get my dream gun the S&W-29, or, a Colt Anaconda. Both in the big .44-mag cartridge size. Too bad money doesn't grow on trees.

Can they handle loads that is in Lyman manual that is to be used only in Rugers , because of the loads is stronger then other 357 mags?

What I wish I knew: Purchased a new Colt Anaconda a couple of months ago. What I found out: [1] If you try to buff out a hairline scratch that was on the gun when you bought it, you void the warranty; [2] If you put a slight burr on the cylinder lock screw, you cannot get a replacement from Colt. If you look for parts on the Colt website, the website tells you to go to Brownells or Midway USA (where the selection of parts is so limited it's laughable).

The biggest problem with the new Pythons is the wobbly rear sight. I’m going to be replacing the one on my 6” 2020 Python with one made for it by Wilson. It’s not a problem at 15 yards, but at 25+ it really shows up.

Have a 4 digit 1956 6" barrel Python in "pinto " ( blued fame, nickel cylinder & barrel, shoots great)

Que hermosa es la nueva Colt Python, es una excelente arma, pero prefiero el modelo clásico, ese revolver es el Cadillac de los revolvers, yo tuve una y la vendí, y pienso volver a hacerme de ese bello revólver..!! Es un arma muy versátil y muy precisa..!! Excelente video..!!

My two new production King Cobras could not handle a steady diet of factory 357 Magnum ammo without needing service. I have limited my use of my two 2020 generation Pythons as a result. I don’t want y to send them in for service. The cartridge overall length is very critical in all Colt revolvers. The SAAMI specs must be followed ( max COAL for 357 Mag is 1.590”). There is no room for any deviation. These guns are very expensive.

Why is the thumbnail clearly NOT a Colt Python? I mean I get not many people can always tell the difference between Colts and Smith’s, but the python is generally well known and has an iconic look to it that’s pretty hard to miss….

There wouldn't be a new Python without the new action. The scarcity of both parts and pistolsmiths able to work on the old action is pretty much the swan song of the older guns. Better durability and a better double action are tradeoffs I'd be willing to make considering the alternative: no Python. I doubt Colt would have brought the gun back if they would have had to charge MR73 or Korth levels of prices. The new gun's sights are simply unacceptable, but that's easy enough to remedy. Be glad Bill Wilson is a Python fan.

What is unacceptable with the sights, they have remedied the loos rear sight, that actually made no difference when shooting the gun. The first production series on the Anaconda and the Pythons had this issue, this has now been corrected and the rear sight fit snug in place.

@@norseman5041 The Allen screw is still too small. Rounding it off will be common. The sight picture isn't good. The gun should have at least been fitted with the old Accro sight, if not the Eliason. Colt was probably trying to make a price point, but the rear sight just isn't up the rest of the gun.

Stupidest thing is that press-fit firing pin! Impossible to change out without sending it back to Colt! If Colt stop servicing the new Pythons one day and that part needs replacement, well the whole gun is now a paperweight...totally brain-dead "feature"...

@@lynch6642 no I have a '69 blued Python 4 in like new w/ box and a '73 nickel plated Python 4 in . I paid crazy money for both. The new guns are nice they just don't have the swagger of the vintage Pythons. Could swing $1500 for a new Python easy but I have more guns that I know what to do with.

This channel is such a joke considering it's not even a colt python on the thumbnail… Just another channel looking to make money with no knowledge and a high budget production team
