I just inherited a type 1 serial # 33397. I belonged to my dad, it's a little worn but seems to operate slick as butter. Thanks for posting this, I'm learning about this little beauty. 👍😁

Have a 1906 type II, by far the best of my collection to shoot. Everyone that shoots it loves it

Beautiful guns. Just picked up my first, and I'm already looking into a 2nd. They are wonderful pistols.

We had either a Type II or III come through the gun store I used to work in. It wasn't as in great a shape as yours, but I do remember that they felt really good in the hand.

One thing that most of 1903 owners wish is to have some extra magazines. Are the magazine different in terms of fitting?

My girlfriend/wife has a 400000 series which I think equates to a 1921 mfg date... Such a cool piece of history and a fine firearm

@EmpireMG Original parts, finish and overall condition affect the price. They can only be appraised in person. Prices can vary widely. Consult the Bluebook of Gun Values for lowest to highest current prices. Thanks for watching

You can see a couple of these in " The Big Sleep". In one scene, Joe Brodie gets the drop on Philip Marlow (Bogart) with one, but he makes a slick move and takes it away from him. I like this pistol, and will get one if the opportunity and right price ever come along.

A technical question relative to the 1903/08: Was there any significant accuracy gained by going away from the Type 1 and 2 barrel bushing arrangement to the later 'barrel lug' design...? Did the lug make the pistol more accurate or was it just a time/cost savings measure...?

@TheJedi270 ??? What does this video have to do with a .308? Are you refering to the 1908 Pocket Hammerless in .380?

Thank you for the history. This is a beautifully simple firearm. Consistent and easy to manage. The solid design and low recoil make it great for working with new shooters. I have been reading about poor workmanship with the after market magazines. Could you recommend any?

I just purchased a Colt 1903 Hammerless Pocket Pistol Model M Type I. Based upon your description, it should have been manufactured in 1904, is that correct? • Serial # 4232 (1903 to 1907) • .32 caliber ACP • 4” barrel • 8 round capacity • removable barrel bushing • grip safety • no verified proof on trigger bow • plunge slide serrations • scalloped grip lettering • cool straight lettering • rearing stallion standing on globe within circle on grip • rearing stallion standing on globe within circle on left, rear of slide • diamond checkering on slide lock and magazine • “Browning Patent” PAT’D April 20, 1897 Thanks…joey

I am hearing that at some point in the 1920s colt shortened the firing pin, added a half cock notch in the hammer, and changed the sear to make the gun more drop safe. Is all that info correct?

What is the model with plain checkered side grips called,then? My father's all-original one from the 1950s has plain, checkered wood grips only....

Thanks for the great video! Based on what you said in your video I have what I think is a type III. My serial number is in the 226,000 range, so am I then correct in assuming that my gun is in fact a type III? Thanks! Eddie

what year did colt remove the "C" from the grips? Mine is 157,000 range with the type III grips shown but without the "C" around the pony, and an unmarked pinned magazine.

My grand fathers same pistol has SN: 447419 could you tell me anything about it?
@DougHinVA

Mine is blue type III (no barrel bushing and mag release is side to side grooves and not checkered). The old guns (inherited) are not registered, which is an advantage in today's world. Plain checkered grips.

I have a type 3. I paid 250 bucks. Hopefully it’s worth that I have shot it one time. Works like a charm. Wanted to know if I got a good deal??
@kylebradley3

Paid roughly the same for mine, barrel has decent rifling still and it's mechanically excellent, but it has some pitting on the outside, and the finish has that patina color, got it a larger lot so I wasn't going to be picky about it but it turned out to be built to last, 100+ years and still runs like a champ.

The 308 was around the 1940's it does not hurt it's value it's just nit one of the first models. Mine was made in 1905

Colt started making the Model M again in 2017. There may still be a few New In Box out there.

I think my mother in law has one with SN 31614, nickel plated. except hers doesnt say colt or anything, and has an old school wooden handle. looks like it was hand made. im not too sure bout the sites as the rear one looks as though the nickel plating coverd it...
