Combi Boiler Review. Viessmann Vitodens 050-w Review | Viessmann 100-w Review Thank you to Heatable for kindly donating two new Viessmann Combi Boilers for me to Review. Viessmann 100 or Viessmann 050 which boiler is best.
Very helpful hints and reviews Alan . Your videos have helped us , decide on a new Viessmann 050 W boiler to replace our old Potterton unit.......thanks 👍
Hi Allen, very informative video. Had the 050 30 kw installed yesterday, very pleased with the product and no doubt I will choose Viessmann in the future .
An excellent unbiased review. I have fitted a lot Viessmann boilers and have very few problems with them. If a warranty call out is needed, in my area, the Viessmann engineers are very good. Cost wise Viessmann are comparable in cost to a Vaillant and probaly cheaper than a Worcester. I have never had any issues with plastic components in Viessmann in 16 years of fitting them. At the present time 12 year warranties are available too.
Thanks Allen for the honest review - even when my German ears needed to tune in to your english for a while 😂 but very well done - very appreciated and we fully trust your experience.
Great video. My vote goes for 100w. Can you record a video on how to commissioning boiler in different modes ... continuous operation, single room temperature control with ViCare thermostat etc ...
I have a 050 and ive a three bedroomed house and ive never been happy with it it just doesnt have the power to supply hot water to more than one tap. As soon as you turn on a second tap it takes all the power away from the first tap and if running a bath to get a lot of hot hot water i have to slow the bath tap to a trickle or its not hot enough. Im thinking of getting a 100 installed or getting my plumber to have a good look at my pipework in case that is to blame.
Hi Allen, we have got a 111-W storage combi installed, single circuit heating. Commissioned, no fault code. But the heating is on and we set to 60 degree. The boiler will running and heating the flow temperature up to 90 degree and stopped. And cool down then start again to 90 degree. Their is 345 fault code under b.4. Any idea what is going wrong?
What I have learnt is boilers serve the same function, its the aftercare and service you get from the company when they breakdown that's important. Heard so much high end reviews about baxi so I pulled the trigger and went for it. The 3 boiler services I have had from them since has been a joke. One engineer done full service in less then 10 minutes and another engineer told My wife to clean the condensate trap and Magna clean her self by Learning from youtube. When I asked back - I have emails as proof. They said service only includes gas analyser checks. What a joke. Service costs me £170 a year.
Thats shocking,I get rid of plumbers who think just a gas analyser check is a service,It's not! If I took my car in for a service and they charged me for a service and only checked the emissions then I wouldn't go back either.
So the actual service is essentially a routine point check on an annual basis to help maintain your boilers health and provide warranty cover and if needed those point checks may or may not need to be serviced.. the point of the analyser is to check the boiler is burning correctly and The engineer may need to adjust the gas valve or assess if the heat exchanger needs to be inspected, fan speed check will also indicate if certain points need to be inspected.. as a rule of thumb a service will be fairly standard for the first 7 years before assuming strong consideration for a strip down service, if you are specific on your own standard requirements for a boiler service then it would be best to check with the engineer before he starts what to expect from the service. But at the very least you should expect an engineer to be there for 30/45mins and this could end up as long as 3 hours or more.
Just a quick question . 2 weeks time I'm due to have a 100 vitodens fitted in the kitchen. Can you tell me what clearance is needed to service the boiler to the sides of it ? New kitchen going in after it and I want to get an idea how near or far I can fit wall cabinets. Many thanks.
Hi Allen , these combis look top quality and I’m thinking of replacing my system (thermal store cylinder and system boiler ) which is 20 yrs old , I have 2 bathrooms and a cloakroom, but we never use them at the same time , and the current system can’t cope with 2 hot water sources running , but I’ve been advised by 3 plumbers I have the best system and a combi won’t work , I hate the hot water system I have and I seem to be constantly suffering very cold showers , would these run a shower ??? And would it just be adequate or ok , my water input at the main is 20+ and hot water through the shower currently about 12-14litres per min , cheers
Hi Allen, I have a 21 year old rear facing flue Vaillant 824E TurboMax plus in a studio flat, which I can no longer get a replacement flue for, and I am considering replacing that and 3 others for a Viessmann Vitodens model. Space is at a premium in 2 of the 3 flats, but can the 050 and 100 Vitodens boilers be adapted to have a rear facing flue construction on them or not? I received an email from Viessmann technical earlier today suggesting that: Our Boilers have a top mounted Flue Spigot, an Elbow is used onto this to turn the Flue to the Side or rear. However from their diagram I cannot see how this would make it a rear flue outlet. Please kindly advise me on that? Thank you.
Does the Vicare app allow you to setback the weather compensation? Heatable say no. Installers say yes . I need to find out if i can make as a minimum two setback periods oer day.
100w or 050W is better suit for the 3-bedroom semi-detached with 1 bathroom? Will 100w performs better than 050W on the pressure drop issue while bathroom and kitchen sink are in use at the same time? Thank you.
Hi I've just had fitted a viessmann 100 fitted. My water pressure is very low 4.5 liters a minute cold when it comes to hot water it's now down to a liter a minute. Been on to technical and they say it's dew to the plates in the heat exchanger I am lucky to get any with that flow rate. My main is shared with 6 other properties. Do you think a booster pump would help if so any suggestions thanks in advance and look forward to your reply
Excellent video Alan. The front cover on the 050 is not insulated so is there a major noise difference between the two boilers in a real world running condition?
Allen Hart. Does the Viessmann 100w 2021 come with a weather compensation sensor in the box. I had one installed last year but I was not told it it had a sensor or not. But the Viessmann video on weather compensation said all boiler come with a sensor in the box?
I went with the 100 system because of one of your old videos. Other things encouraged me. The size, the origin, flexible flue (for class 1 chimney). Things I didn't like was the low voltage side on the DHW, needing another part to make it work with my unvented.. Also parts are expensive.
I wouldn't bank on that, mine has packed up after 22 months, a viesmann engineer has been out twice this week, apparently he has now replaced all the parts today and this evening, it is not working again. He tried to tell me that it is bad gas (I am on LPG), never heard anything so ridiculous or insulting.@@AllenHart999
Hi Peter the self-adhesive sound insulating foam is available to buy to be cut to size and stuff on the front cover and yes it does make a difference to the sound of the boiler!
Thanks for the review. I'm struggling to find reviews on the Viessman 100W B1GA range of Heat Only boilers? It's all combi combi combi! Can you point me in the right direction?
Hi Allen, Thanks a lot for your review, you are very clear and your explanations are always perfect. I might have a question, I am planning to get installation at my flat with the 050, because I like the size and the evacuation in the back. My question is, is it a problem if I use it only for hot water and not for heating? For the moment, I use electric heaters and I don't have enough money to change them. So am I taking a good choice with the 050-w and can it be use only for hot water? Sorry if my question looks naïve but no one can answer that around me. Take care
From what I have gathered, the 100 has a more advanced and larger display control panel to operate the boiler in a more self diagnostic manner amongst other things. The insides of both are the same, except the depth of the 050 is 60mm less than the 100 at 360mm deep.
@@AllenHart999 100 heat only. I find the controls very complex. Even resetting the boiler after lockout was tedious. From what I read you can link into the boiler with an App, can you do everything through the app including commissioning
Hi Allen, thanks for your comparison on the two model. I am researching to find which boiler is suitable for my 2 bedroom ground flat with 1 bath and 1 shower and 91 sqm underfloor heating. My current boiler is a glowworm flexcom 24cx, the heat exchanger went after just over 7 years. It is demmed financially not viable by the plan company I have my boiler servied with. I have been looking at Worcester Greenstar 4000 30kw, Vaillant ecoTEC plus 825 and Viessman V050. Which one would you recommend? Thanks for your help in advance, Dennis
Hi, I think would go for wailant vaillant ecotec plus 24kw new version got 10l expansion vessel or WB 400025kw, only 6l expansion vessel, both of them can be range rared for required output, consider price of the parts for service,,good magnetic filters and lime descaler, your maitanance company probably didn't do any proper service that your boiler failed after 7 years, probobly ch system drained and then no inhibitor, don't like thermostat control of viessmann, I would say vaillant and WB is easier to control, , and guarantees
Hi Allen is the prv and condensate combined. The modulation sounds great, does it work well with other opentherm controls. Thanks Allen top top videos👍
As a follow on from Max Navsa and the subject of Servicing. It would be useful if manufactures specified a servicing regime akin to car manufacturers - like major and minor or on a hours run basis that specified which servicing operations should be done for each ‘flavour’ of service. This would enable homeowners to specify what level of service they required and for the heating engineer to be absolutely clear what he was pricing for and what work he was doing. The latest Viessman documentation is lacking in this regard. I do not like the condensate flex so far forward (it is also at the back on the 200 btw. The 200 has a minimum burner output of 1.9KW if I had a heat loss of 14KW on a -2 day - what advantage would I get range rating a 19KW system boiler (4 pipe) running on weather compensation?
@@AllenHart999 Theoretically yes (calculates using web app) but I suspect (strongly) that empirically it will be less. The beauty of the 200 is it will tell me what my real heat loss is - all I need now is a minus 2c day - happy to wait for that.😉
I was going to go with Viessmann but plumber told me don't go with Viessmann. He recommended me to go with intergas as he would install both. He told out every ten Viessmann boilers he installed two would have issues. He told me never had issues with intergas now he only installs intergass boiler's. Hey Alan I wondering if you can give me some advice. Would it be safe to use Aluminium radiator within existing 20 year old system with all steel radiators. I heard it bad to introduce new metal to old system. Any ideas would it be safe
as long as you look after it and have it serviced correctly i am sure it will be ok. Ask your installer if he strips the boiler and cleans it, also ask if they change the seals. Thanks.
I installed 222-F and 50 heat only, all has problem. The 222-F flue connector very easy be broken due to not centralised assembled in factory and has much stress. 50 condensation trap is nightmare for leakage from top of the trap. I see 100 has the same trap with old 50’s. Don’t know whether it will leak.
Thank you for the feedback. 222 is a standard flue connection and I have never personally had any issues with it. Did you do the 200 training with Viessmann?
Thanks Allen for a simple clear video. Just ordered an 050 on the strength of it. Can a Google Nest be connected to the 050 to control the hot water and heating?
@@spoonz1065 I just got quoted on the 50 and was given the option of a nest or a hive. I'm going wit the Hive but I think you can use either based on what the guy told me.
It would be really nice if you could showcase how to wire viessmann 100openthermtado wireless receiver. I've read that Viessmann has some kind of KM-Bus interface. Is this compatibile with opentherm ? Thanks!
Have to disagree on the hoses Alan. I service/repair Viessmanns on a daily basis. I have been to systems that are as clean as a whistle yet the plates still blocked as a result of magnetite forming on and breaking off the rubber hoses. I have pictures of 1 inch shards I have removed from the left side hose (to big to pass through the main heat exchanger) formed perfectly in the shape of the inside of the hose, so I can be sure those shards did not come in it’s large form from the system. Any small metal particulars in the system, which all systems will have (you cannot remove 100%), appear to stick the hoses, and over time create larger pieces of magnetite.
I have no videos Alan, but have an interesting photo of what I got out of the hoses on a previous repair. Just looked at the photo and I was wrong, the shard is not 1” long, it’s more like 3”.
Hi Alan I wish you worked near me in Surrey you are a diamond ! I'm getting on one of these soon is there a way I can check if the engineer has set up the weather monitoring and what does this actually do ?
Hi Alan I'm.looking to make my viesmann 050 30kwh as cost effective as possible , I know the weather comp is avaliable with hive but I think nest can use open therm problem is they are including a hive free of charge , should I go buy a nest and get that fitted , I simply want to out my best jockies on best horses if you know what I mean !, its a minefield if you're not used to whats avaliable. Any advise is helpful thanks for your great videos
Another great video Allan, Personally I think their the ugliest looking boilers on the market, and I think I'd sleeve that condensate pipe with 35 ml copper pipe.
@@AllenHart999 I mean that ugly condensate grey plastic pipe hanging down would it fit inside a length of 35 ml copper then clip it against the wall pipe to wherever it's going to make it look better matching the rest of the pipes just a thought.
honestly I would never buy a viessmann again, I had an old gen 100w regular and found the build quality was really lacking against the neighbours combi, almost as if it hadn't been updated at all to keep with time it was very similar to the 050 with lack of sound proofing , rubber hoses always the condensate was clogging. the noise was quite loud as well. and call out and parts were expensive, gas seals took forever to arrive as well. in the end we swapped out to an intergas HRE, built like a tank, granted it needed to have a water softer fitted but the rest 4 years zero problems and was still knocking it out the park when I moved home. parts were a little slow arriving, but far better than Viessmann, 6 week for anything.
@@AllenHart999 he retired so won't bring up his name as he did nothing wrong. services and repairs by a c series - Andrew who was really good at what he did but was super booked , but when we had enough following a heat seal failure and long 6 week wait for parts. updated to intergas we turned to HD Plumbing & Heating who were the only intergas installer in area. who did a great job, my late partner was there when it was installed due to an accident at the time i was in hospital so don't know who actually did the install with the team. services have been done by a semi local Plummer since, by CGo Plumbing & electrical Ltd who again were excellent
@@AllenHart999 thanks . Is it as simple to do as a normal combi boiler . Simple on/off and let the nest do the brain work ? I have 3 lodges 2 that have nest fitted and this one is for the new one . So want it all on the same app and will update the old boilers later on down the down to the same if it's a good boiler . Was thinking the 100 or a baxi . What would u choose ?
I’ve found Viessman customer service and getting hold of parts a nightmare These boilers are for the Uk market only Without the infrastructure for Uk fitters Get yourself an ideal
Sorry but that was a very lazy review I had an 050 installed in June 2022. Four engineer visits… 142 error, fan fault, I get the impression from the engineer…a common problem. Controlled by a Google nest using Opentherm. Dislikes, can’t disable hot water preheat, CH Opentherm preheat, can disable overnight, but not mid day. A week between fault and fix. Vicarage app low on features.
Not impressed with Viesmann at all. Our boiler has packed up after being installed from new 18 months ago. Have tried to contact and they have attempted to charge me £350 to call out/repair, without even knowing what the issue is. Avoid at all costs!
