27 years old is still so, so young! Toni Morrison debuted at 39, Mark Twain at 41, Annie Proulx at 57... the list goes on. Today's world convincing us that people peak in their 20's is such a sham. Especially in the field of writing, which is such a slow, longterm activity and/or process - on so many levels. Point is: you're doing great!
@@TheBookLeo this is insane! Living in a huge country as Brazil, this really hard to imagine! It would take so much longer to go to one extreme to another of my country 😅
That about Van Gogh not finding his calling for art until 27 really hit me, too, as I'm literally 21 trying to figure it all out with zero clue 😅. I have qualities and talents but sometimes struggle to find how I can bring meaning to them
I think finding meaning can be really hard, because the question is, if something is meant to fully financially support you, or if it is meant to be a true non-monetized hobby, or inbetween. I can only truly enjoy my hobbies if I know I am just making them for me, to feel happy and to create something that does something for me! Meaning is such a weird concept!
@Annikania I guess when you embrace your passions, you discover an outlet for the sides of you that aren't stimulated at your day job. It's not something you “have to do,” but rather something you “want to do” because you love to do it. It's funny you say meaning is a 'weird' concept because meaning is what you give to something, not what something gives to you
I'm great! Can I recommend 2 pieces of brazillian lit for you ? I'm from Brazil btw: - Barren Lives by Graciliano Ramos (One of my all time favourites); - Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis. I think you'll enjoy it
@@vyn409 its funny how the grass always seems greener on the other side haha! i love the sound of Dutch and even more of German but ive heard so much from native speakers of both how harsh or unpleasant the languages are. maybe theyre just being modest about their language 😅
@@htdtrr76 its not modesty its just that dutch is a pain to learn even when youre born in the netherlands And there are sooooo many exceptions that even latin is easier to learn And the words are not flowy
@@Angelo-uw9eofair enough lol, guess enjoying the way a language sounds is a whole different story to having to actually go thru the pain of learning it
I'm 35, and the only accomplishments I have are attaining a Master's degree that I"ve never used outside of writing blogs related to the subject and writing some fanfics that I think still hold up even a decade and change later in some cases. So yeah, don't rush yourself, Leonie. You have an entire lifetime to do all the things you want to do, whatever that may be.
The train not stopping for Britt and sab was hilarious and the food looked so good. The Van Gogh thing didn’t surprise me since I knew he started his art journey late but it’s a good to remember that fact every once and awhile because to me it tells me that it’s never too late to start a career and that it’s ok to not have everything figured out before the age of 20.
Just wanna say that thanks to stumbling upon your videos I actually got the desire to get back into reading books properly. I even renewed my library card a week or so ago, and have made it a goal to try and read at least 20 different books this year.
My grandparents were from The Netherlands, and they ended up bringing my family to the US, and there's something so great about the fact that I can see this and be like, wow I could've lived there. (I'm quite jealous, actually). There's something about the atmostphere... There's so much history and beautiful architecture, and so many lives have been lived there. I'm so glad that I could see this video! Thanks!
The singing postman kinda just made my day, like this is so wholesome....✨😅 Also, I like how your book hauls are not like "I bought 100 books", but that you are really taking your time to consider what books you really want to read.
The Netherlands is one of the countries that I've always wanted to visit! Thank you for showing us a bit of Amsterdam. I will live vicariously through videos like this until I get a chance to visit for myself!
The Cat Who Saved Books is such a beautiful book. It's the perfect book for booklovers and there is a talking cat. It was my favorite book last year and I gave it to everyone for christmas. I also highly recommend the audiobook. The narrator is so good.
My friend brought me to that exact coffee shop when we were in Amsterdam (she lives in a city very nearby) and she also told me it was a hidden gem 😂 this video brought back such happy memories, I can't wait to go back 💕
I only live like, 4 hours away from Amsterdam and I've still never been. I have no excuse (other than gas prices) but I promised myself to go this year... As a half American/ half German, I love hearing you guys speak Dutch because it sounds like a mix between the two :) Thanks for such a beautiful, cozy vlog!
I'm going abroad alone for the first time in a week to the Netherlands, and one of my ideas was to check out bookstores in Amsterdam! You've given ideas on places to indulge (: Also, this may sound odd, but as a viewer from southern California, observing your outfits gives me a little idea of what is reasonable to wear in colder weather! Thank you as always for another video 💗
Oh have fun! The city center is really nice, and the reijksmuseum is also worth a visit! And, if the weather is nice, it is actually really cool and calming to do a boat tour through the Grachten. It sure is a really touristy thing, but I can totally recommend it. You can see a nice perspective on the city.
this video was really comforting. i watched while i was working on my thesis and it helped me ease the tension, so thank you!!! all your videos have this comforting aura! and recently i bought the illuminae files and norwegian wood by murakami, im already reading the second one!!
In Maastricht heb je ook een mooie boekwinkel de Dominicanen, het is in een kerk, het wordt vaak omschreven als een van de mooiste boekhandels. Misschien een leuk idee voor een video.
The Bell Jar was straight out of my head, I've never in my life experienced someone's thoughts align so well with my own. That being said, it is a heavy book so take caution you're in the right headspace before starting it! On another note, can't wait to get my hands on new Holly Black (hoping there is Jude and Cardan there as well)
As someone who lives in Amsterdam myself it's so much fun to see the city in cosy vlogs like this! Gives me a whole new appreciation for it:) Also the tram leaving while some people are still in there has happened to me multiple times too, Amsterdam's tram drivers are ruthless hahah
Ah, Van Gogh Museum :) There’s also a fantastic Vermeer exhibition coming up at the Rijksmuseum! Lots of beautiful paintings of his from all over the world (or well, mostly from Europe and the U.S., but still) There’s a lot of interest, tickets are going fast!
Doing well. Good to see you again. Tchaikovsky and Haydn were both musical geniuses who didn't really hit their stride til late 20s, early 30s too. It's never too late! 🙂Have you checked out the Dragonology Chronicles? I'm working on them now. Interesting. Have a great week, Leonie!
"To a steep set of stairs" So practically almost every set of stairs in Amsterdam HAHAHA I never went to that place, I'll have to write it down for my next trip in the Netherlands!
Haha this is how I explain things to my friends too: I don’t live in Amsterdam/at the beach/near the border BUT The Netherlands is small so everything is close by.
I drifted off of a bit and came back when you said you were gonna read one letter a day. And I figured it would be one letter such as 'a', then next day 't'. Thought well that's gonna take a while
So nice to hear Dutch in this video!! Including the correct pronunciation of Van Gogh 😍 It's funny because even as a native Dutch speaker I could never pronounce it this accurately, something about the g-sounds is just impossible with my Flemish accent 😆
I was in Amsterdam in 2019 (I worked in The Netherlands that summer), but back then I haven't picked up reading as a hobby so unfortunately I haven't checked out the bookstores which I fully regret now. 😔 But I started to write a list about bookstores around the world which I want to visit someday and I have Waterstones and The American Book Center on it. Thank you for showing me, Leonie! Those are definitely gonna be on it! 😊
your videos never cease to relax and bring me joy✨️ also, yoh can add a little cold water in your tea if it turned out too hot to drink and it balances it out
yesss De Laatste Kruimel was super close to where I did my internship and it is genuinely the best place to have lunch in Amsterdam as far as I'm aware (although I've never actually sat inside, I didn't know they had a second floor!) ABC is definately my favourite bookstore in Amsterdam, their sci-fi/fantasy section is so much larger than that of Waterstones or any of the other bookshops.
Oh my goodness your pink sweater with the clouds is adorable!! I loved this vlog!! I'm looking forward to reading: Bunny, My Year of Rest and Relaxation, The Bell Jar.
I started reading Shadow and Bone after binging the first season of the show. You are the one who inspired me to check it out and dip my toe in the Grishaverse. I was very curious by the whole aesthetic that feels familiar to the part of Europe where I'm from. I plan to read the trilogy then the duology, fingers crossed it become a new fantasy fave! Anyway, thanks for that and for showing us a bit of Amsterdam! 💜Much love from Moldova
There’s definitely a lot of mixed feelings on the shadow and bone books, but I’d definitely encourage you to read the six of crows duology if you haven’t already, bc it’s WAY better that SAB
I wanted to go to a book store you already went when I visited Amsterdam last summer. I had a little time, so just went to the American Book Center and bought a couple of books. Glad to see that you were there as well! Greetings from Costa Rica!
I absolutely love your vibe. I’ve been watching your videos occasionally and realize that we have many things alike and it would be amazing to have a friend like you that I would talk hours 😅
The video was so calming and aesthetic, It is so comfortable to watch and vibe with the feeling when you're buying books 😌😌 Makes me wants to read some books UWU.
Very nice to see Britt and Sabine again, and that lunch! mein gott, it looked so good. But most of all I was so stunned to see the actual typewriter I used in high school to learn the keyboard [haha I'm so funny]. Thx, Leonie, enjoyed.
I visited Amsterdam today and went exactly to that coffee place you went to, it was so pretty and the food was delicious!! I’m there tomorrow too, so i’ll definitely check out the bookstores ! Your videos are so amazing 🌞
I've never actually heard anyone talk about the resurrectionist, my son is obsessed with speculative fiction and he loved that book. So highly recommend it if that is a genre you enjoy. I adore Sylvia Plath, your edition of The Bell Jar is beautiful!
It took me almost a year to read and digest sister outsider. One of the most influential books I’ve ever read and has radically changed my life for the better 12:07
Wow your video had such a wonderful atmosphere! My respect for all of the work you must have put into filming, cutting and picking the scenes, everything was so on point! Splendid 💫 I am happy for you, you found soms books you were searching for. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland!
I visited Amsterdam last December very much because of you. The vlogs you made walking around the city where you live left me completely in love with the beauty of the Netherlands and I ended up aiming to get to know the Netherlands. I didn't find it appropriate to invade your privacy and ask where you live, so I thought Amsterdam was a good start and I could still realize the dream of going to the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank house. I loved this part of my trip and being able to do a boat trip through the canals. Amsterdam is even more beautiful than I imagined. I hope to come back in a period with the most pleasant weather and see the tulip fields 🧡
