I remember seeing an interview with the band and producer about how most producers cut most of the drum fills out but the producer loved the drummer so much he let him keep 99 percent of his fills. good choice producer... good choice.
For instance, Danny Carey of Tool might be the best drummer in the "whatever" genre, and Mike Portnoy might be the best drummer in the "progressive" genre. AND Alex Rodriquez might just be the best drummer in the "hardcore" genre, or whatever you want to call Saosin's genre.
don't forget their voices were fixed for the DVD, the same software that bends pitches for actual album recordings. I'm not saying he can't sing good live, but what you're hearing isn't EXACTLY how he sounded at that concert.
Remind yourself That they are the ones who will hold you still My thoughts exploding in thousands of pieces [Thousands of pieces] It looks so beautiful when, I know it's not love cause I've been trying [As we are waiting] I've been trying to let you know So come close, this is who we are Come on you can be yourself So come close, this is who we are Come on you can show yourself again When you notice yourself As something more than just a reflection You'll see it's not me I guess I'm trying to say, I know it's not love, but... I've been trying [As we are waiting] I've been trying to let you know So come close, this is who we are Come on, you can show yourself So come close, this is who we are Come on, you can be yourself again Now you've found love, it's shining through Come close, this is who we are Come on, you can show yourself So come close, this is who we are Come on you can be yourself again Come close, and I will carry you Come close, in my arms
Dude you don't even fuckin know me, and he's way better than me? For your information I could play most of the Saosin stuff FLAWLESS 4 years ago when I wasn't that great of a drummer. Now I listen to Dream Theater, Andromeda, etc and those guys would drum circles around all three of us. Alex is really awesome but I have matured and believe there are better styles out there. Previous comment only intended to inspire thought about other great drummers, and YES Alex is great, but there are others.
How am I wrong? All I was saying is that you cannot simply judge the "best drummer in the entire world" on just one genre of music (wiki genre if you don't know). I have had previous favorites of mine in which I said were the best. However, lately I've been listening to more diverse genres of music and I have to say: There is no way to pick just one. I would definitely say that Alex is the best drummer in his genre, but not in the whole world. No offense intended here guys.
Um... What about Mike Portnoy? Shannon Larkin? Roy Mayorga? Josh Freese? Danny Carey? Ray Luzier? The "best drummer in the world" all depends on technique, style, and genre
@BF2Ownerer so you're saying that saosin's songs are meant for anthony? even though he left the band six years ago and cove has been in the band for that long? right...haha
Una gran banda para mi mejor que Alesana pero... al fin entiendo por que no son tan famosos... les falta ganas en sus conciertos... les falta alocarse ;)... ... fuera de eso es una de mis bandas favoritas.
the ranges overlap bro. cove is a tenor, which includes the high end bass/baritone range, and the low end of the countertenor (pronounced con-chure) range.
@SuperBrandango I'll give props to him for his fills; they're damn awesome! But I wish he'd come up with something new every now and then. Ya know, something other than the 16th note alternating floor toms and bass drum fills then ending on the snare... I get bored sometimes with that, but that is his style and it fits him well.
@DistrictOfPenis hell yeah! Circa and Sao are two of my favorite bands, and it's even better now that Circa has their Atlantic deal so they both have achieved basically mainstream success. I'd like to see a Circa/Saosin tour, though i really really doubt that would ever happen.
@SuperBrandango I didn't mean to put Alex down dude, and I'm aware of how much potential he has outside of Saosin's genre. All I was trying to get across months back was that all of these people saying he's the greatest in the world are sadly mistaken. I went and listened to Open Hand and it was pretty sweet. And, just sayin', there are other drummers who play his style. And like I said before, I can manage covering his songs with ease. I am in college right now; no time to prove that point now
