My grandmother, born in 1917, got her first drivers license in 1935. She told me that when she was 18, she sent a form to an address in Salem, OR with a $1 bill in the envelope, and a couple of weeks later, received a paper license in the mail, and she never took a knowledge test or drive test in her entire life, despite moving between Oregon and California a few times, and aging. I think any of my siblings or cousins would agree that she was a scary driver. I think she knew that too because any time there was someone else available to drive, she would ask them to drive, even 18 year old me with a license less than a year old. The only person I know with a worse record of accidents and citations is my mother, who got her license in the late 1950s, and never had to test again despite her driving record.

Had just pulled into a spot. Needed to readjust in order to be dead center in the spot. It’s…I have a problem. Whatever. Threw it in reverse, saw a car behind me, threw it back in park. This guy was so sure I was leaving and so sure I was also an idiot. Kept honking, trying to encourage me to pull out? I dunno. He finally drove past, I threw it in reverse and began backing out, and he lost his fucking mind. Slammed on his brakes. I could hear his brain. “You dumb bitch, that’s why I was waiting, why didn’t you just leave when I was waiting, now you’re leaving JUST LIKE I KNEW YOU WERE GONNA” I pulled back into my spot, same amount of inches on each side for maximum ease upon entrance and/or egress for everyone adjacent, and the guy vaporized into a cloud of uncharitable fart fumes. True story

When that happens, I pop my eyes open in surprise, make sure things are copacetic by eye contact, make the sign of the cross, then cover my eyes as if in sorrow. Then I sit up straight, take my right hand and make a gun of it, hold it up to my right ear and mimic shooting myself in the head as punishment. If you still have issues after that, then the problem isn't mine.
