The magnificent Comet Neowise has been capturing global attention in the night skies lately. In this video I head out to try to photograph this unexpected and dazzling cosmic wonder. Along the way I explain some of the main challenges to comet photography and how you can effectively plan you own shoots. Not wanting to spoil anything before you watch this, but I feel its fair to say the trip ends up being one of the best astrophotograph trips I've ever been on! What an incredible sight!!! Thanks very much for watching. If you have any thoughts on the comet or want to share your own experiences of shooting it, pop some comments down below. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel if you are new to my videos. Cheers and see you again soon 🙂

I had been into astrophotography for maybe two years or so when a friend of mine wrote to me „Did you read about that comet appearing soon? This might be quite interesting for your new hobby“. Two days later on a friday morning clear skies were announced, so I got up at 3.30 and drove down to lake constance (north-east border of switzerland) - and BAMM he was right there! No problem at all seeing it with your naked eye! And of course I took pictures, a lot of pictures and later on went to work with a biiiiig smile on my face, it was fantastic! Fortunately I had the chance to see it quite a few more nights over the following weeks, even pointed my telescope at it - and even took a picture of it over the town of constance that found it‘s way into the local newspaper, it was such a blast! Still get a smile thinking back to these moments 🤩!

It doesn't get any better than that your photo. It gives me goosebumps! I'm an amateur photographer/ astronomer in Seattle, and managed to find a park with a marina dock with the view to spot and photograph Comet Neowise. I certainly don't have any sophisticated equipment- an old Casio Exilim FH-20 digital camera, which I bought it for it's optical zoom capability, and even good digital zoom on top of that. I set up my tripod, and searched for Neowise with binoculars. It was an exciting moment when I spotted it for the first time! It was another story to find it in my viewfinder, using trees below it as a marker, then zooming slightly, keeping part of the comet in the viewfinder, re-centering, only about ten times, before it was suitably zoomed for good pictures. I wasn't sure how to use my manual shutter speed without holding down the shutter manually, which would have caused blur, but I did get several nice shots. Like you said, I had to set the ISO at 800 and 1600 to get enough light, which caused a lot of noise and graininess, but it was worth it. That was almost two weeks ago. Now that it is at it's closest, if the darned clouds would leave, I will try again, having learned how to set a shutter timer for the desired exposure. Good work, and thanks for all the useful tips!

Brilliant photos and video! Saw the comet two nights ago around 10P with binoculars along RT 44 in upstate NY just past Miniwaska State Park. Lots of light pollution. It was about half way between the big dipper and the horizon. Unless you are in a very dark sky location seeing it without binoculars would be extremely difficult.
