Drew, what you shared with the world and the way you did it, is an absolute inspiration to truth and authenticity of the human spirit. Even though I am a 75 years old gay man and an atheist, your coming out journey inspired me more than dozens and dozens of other coming out stories I have watched on RU-vid. You have good insight into the puzzles of life, and I know that your path in life will lead you to the truths that lie before you. Upward and onward young man!
It's unbelievable how hateful people can be. How judgmental they can be. Some of the comments on here are hard to read. But the best thing you can do is ignore them. Focus on the good not the bad. You are a wonderful person inside and out. And your message is one of love, peace and understanding.
I was at the conference in January in Chicago and I wept when the reverend, your dad, came up to speak about his son and his struggles. This testimony affirms my faith and believe that many minds can be changed, many hearts can yield towards love and compassion. Thanks to Justin Lee and the Gay Christian Network for listening to God and this amazing vision. I believe truly that lives will be changed and transformed. We just have to be resilient and patient with God. Education and prayer works and with Christ many more lives we be saved. Today I lay my hand on a wounded world for the power of God to heal and cure, Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Your and your dad's video have really touched my heart. This is an issue I've been wrestling with for such a long time. The judgement message preached by so many haters who think they know it all isn't the example of inclusion and compassion that Jesus showed and commanded us to follow. Even though I haven't had to go through your struggle, my heart breaks for young Christians who have as well as other groups of people who have felt marginalised and hurt by the church. I'm so excited to embrace and welcome them into God's family. You are an amazing and incredibly brave young man. God is Love, always, and Jesus wants to give us life and an incredible life to be lived to the fullest. I have no doubt he's got an awesome plan for your future and will be walking with you every step of the way. You have been fearfully and wonderfully made. He loves you SO MUCH!

I wish I could hug you and tell you how much this really helps people like me. I relate so much to what you just said. Truth is, I am only out to a few people. As a queen person, who is also Christian and a Pastor's son, I really felt encouraged. Your story is making a difference. It's not about trying to push anything to anybody. God bless you, son! I am so happy for you and I know that your words on this video will make the difference for a lot more than just one other girl or boy who faces what you have. I'm glad you were able to do this so much earlier in your life than I I did; and I'm happy you have a loving (and truly Christian) family. I didn't fully accept my own gayness till I was 50 years old; but my experience was very similar to your. What I discovered was that I was my own worst enemy, fortunately I had a Mother and father and brother, and two sisters that loved and still love me. My only regret is that I didn't do it earlier in my life.
Drew, I watched your dad's message in church and then I watched your video. I just want to say that people are going to say a lot of things on here that will hurt you. But just remember that you are on the cutting edge of teaching people a new and different way to think. I believe you. I believe in you. Drew, I just have to let you know that I watched your dad's sermon and cried. I had to share it with my dad, who is also a pastor. Then, at the end of your dad's sermon, your own video came up. So, naturally, I had to watch it too. UGH! I started crying again! LOL I'm such a wuss for that, but hey, I have NEVER heard LOVE taught by a Christian Pastor, and experienced in a Pastor's household the way you are experiencing it. You are absolutely correct, you are perfect the way you are, the way god made you. (Psalm 139:15,16) Keep being who you are, and keep serving as an inspiration for those who come after you.

What is lacking is True men of God that make a stand for what is righteous in the eyes of the Lord and not in man!

I have, however, read the bible, 3 times in fact. I've read it, cross referenced it, studied historical context, and languages and cultures of biblical lands. BackSlider? Rather odd coming from a practitioner of "Conditional Love!" Your very words betray a lack of a "Relationship" with Jesus ... I'm sure you know your Bible inside and out. You seem to use it like a "weapon!" Do you memorize verses to drown out the voice of God when it comes to you in those quite moments of the day or night? Do you consider Unconditional Love to be nothing, but license??? Beliefs are NOT FAITH! You seem to have an over abundance of Beliefs that you speak as if you are superior and justified by that. I wouldn't trade my Relationship with Jesus for your Claim to Religious Salvation for anything!

Drew, It is an honor to meet you. 8 year ago, I finally accepted myself. I had accepted Christ at 13-years-old, and for the next 23 years, I struggled with my faith, hiding, hating myself, praying for change. Today, I am so happy for my husband of five years, and the journey we are on to build our family. Unfortunately, my faith suffered through the process. I lost many friends through the process. And, coming out was like setting off a grenade in my circle of friends. It forced people to "take sides". And, sadly, it became painfully cruel and very ugly. I hope that that dialog within the church since when I had last attended 3 or 4 years ago. As hard as it is, try to love even your most ardent haters. And, be ready to say goodbye to friends who become toxic in your life. There will be many new friends ready to stand by your side.

Drew, I am moved by your story. My father and grandfather were Baptist ministers; I am an ordained Baptist minister myself, and was 80 years old before I figured out I am gay--it took me that long because of the brain-washing I went through at the hands of people who used the bible as a weapon rather than as an instrument of peace and love and healing. You have a significant head start on me and have. Your father understands the spirit of Jesus a whole lot better than many--you are fortunate! I am saddened that you went through so much anguish--just as I did--trying desperately to be good and do the right thing. Many years ago when I was at Baylor University, Dr. J. B. Tidwell--one of the great pillars of Texas Baptist history--gathered all of us preacher boys in the chapel to share his wisdom with us. One of the things he said has stuck with me these six decades since: "Brethren, even preachers should tell the truth!" You and your father tell the truth.
You are a brave and amazing person! You are not the only one who felt that way while trying to figure out who you were. You should not be ashamed of your story and of the "mistakes" you have made through your journey to self love and acceptance. Many of us have made mistakes and done things we have not been proud of due to the fact that we were angry and confused. Stand proud of everything you have done, and learn from your mistakes and grow. The only bad thing would be if you allowed those mistakes to hinder your personal growth as a human being. Continue to love yourself and live your truth! I wish you the best.

You are a brave young man Drew. Not many are as fortunate as you to have had such an accepting family once they came out. It fills me with joy that someone of your age can have such wise words to say, that you have learned to love yourself and that you will not change for anyone! I'm here watching your video because as a member in an atheist community (I'm an agnostic atheist and secular humanist) in Facebook, they published the video of your father stance regarding homosexuality and his video was moving and sweet. Your father is a true loving caring parent and I'm glad to see that there are people like him who are more concern in spreading respect, love and compassion.
You need to go see the Movie GOD's NOT DEAD. Its about a Atheist Professor who tries to convince the entire class that GOD does not exist. But then gets put in his place by a Christian student who ends up proving the Professor wrong in front of the entire classroom. You should take the time to see it, cause it sounds like you also need Jesus in your life.

Dear heart, I have been an activist for more than 40 years. I've seen a lot of young folks come out. Some, alas, to rejection, but many to acceptance. I am so glad you found acceptance and I am glad you made this video. I will share it on my FB page because it may help someone else face the same challenge. I wish you the very best. Thanks for sharing Drew, I've done out to my parents some time ago and my parents hold strong to their christian values, we haven't talked about the topic in 8 years and its starting to create rifts and I can't talk about my real life or act like who I feel in my heart then there's nothing to talk about. I just came out to my brother and hes been a lot more supporting that I could ever expect, and with his help I will come out for the second time because I've been in a relationship now for 3 years close to the 4 year mark and my entire family except for my bother have no idea about the real me. Thanks for sharing your story, I gives me more hope hearing your story. EDIT: I found another video about your father and his church and that story, and well to say the least I'm very proud of you I don't know who you are but your a good guy, you started a conversation that ended in something good not just for your self but for many people.

Wow, you are such a brave an beautiful brother. Hearing your story reminds me my own struggles with coming out in a Christian context as a high school student. Although it was only ten years ago, it was quite a different world back then. It was just on the edge of the great shift that has happened. Of course, that's referring to the world and culture and not the Church so much. I came out with different conclusions then you and your father on this matter but hearing your story is still really helpful. I still don't have my theology totally worked out either. I don't believe God made me this way but I believe he allowed me to become this way and I thank him for it in a different way. Drew, congratulation on coming out. I know it must have been a huge relief to finally be able to be open and honest with yourself, your family, friends, and the World. As an openly-gay man, I too came from a conservative religious family. I too struggled wiyh my sexuality, until I finally started coming to grips with the fact that I was gay. Coming out is not an event. It's a process that may continue for the rest of your life. Understand, there is absolutely nothing wrong with who you are. You were created exactly as you were supposed to be. There is no sin in being true to yourself. Perhaps the "sin" is simply living the lie and pretending you are someone you are not. Be proud, stay strong, get an education, stay away from drugs and harmful, negative people. Love yourself and others with all your heart. Love will find you,if it hasn't already. I wish you all the best life has to offer.
It's because of brave people like Drew that hearts, minds, and laws are changing all over the country. It's far easier to hate a stranger than a family member, friend, neighbor or co-worker.

Right on young man. Just know that the only people spewing the hate are those who don't know who they are. They're either insecure about their own sexuality or glom on to some book that supposedly promotes love but ends up promoting hate. Screw them. You not only have the gay community on your side, you've got secure, straight men, like myself, watching your back too. You have one life. Life it as who you are.
Drew, your struggle of discerning your sexuality is so genuine. You are inspiring. I am a 56 year old man who remembers what that struggle feels like. I waited much longer to come out to my parents and realized that once I did that my parents had loved me all along. I am married to a wonderful man and we look forward to a future where young people do not have to feel alone and lost because of their sexuality. Drew, the self hate and shame that you experienced is shared by many until they come to grips with their sexuality. I have read many comments below from so called Christians that would rather you continue shaming yourself. I am so happy for you that you found your voice and very impressed that your father was able to see Christ's love in you. The Church has used scripture since it was first written to justify hatred towards many minorities. This is not Christ's teachings. People who hate will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Amen Todd, hate and shame is not in Gods way, if God is in you, He make you happy all the way, yes when i am in a congregation that wouldn't accept me, i show that im happy to them but inside me who is really me. was so lonely, longing for love. but the church i belong too and sing with the choir at the pulpit was condemn who i am. but now i praise the Lord every day sing His song and Glorify Him. so drew, call Jesus and let Him guide you, He is the only one that can guide you to His will. dont let the blind guide you the He who knows who you are. amen
