The box in box pack job that I can only dream about from eBay. The autronic-eye will be an interesting video series. I remember my aunt that had a Cadillac that had that feature.

Hi Jim, thanks for the comment. Boxing: no kidding right? I was wondering what the RTPnut or shango would say. I recently received something badly damaged in shipping due to boxing that I may video repairing some day. My challenge with this series as the others, is to put in enough detail but not overdo it. Everyone will have a different appetite for detail. Thanks again.

Hey PF. Looks to be another interesting project coming up. I think I had a '67 Caddy with that feature, but I don't remember it being on my '95 Caddy. Should be fun to see how they did it back then. :)

My dad had a 1958 Oldsmobile 98 . I remember it had a gas cap with hidden access in the driver's side tail light which as a kid I played with too much closing and oening the door . I had forgotten that it had an Autronic Eye on the dash! Don't know a thing about it. I think it had the top end of a electron tube as a light receiver stinking out and facing forward and a shape very aerodynamic looking yet smaller than yours with smooth tube body that looked like a miniature space ship about 6 inches long. I think the case just covered the tube and wiring to the socket. See ebat for seller named John's Autronic Eyes. Those parts you got are very expensive. Too bad a semi truck ran a red light and smashed up that Olds my dad had. Whole front end and driver's side destroyed . He said it was the best car he ever had. Was like a tank.

Must have been, glad he wasn't killed. Those are beautiful cars. We had a red '58 Plymouth when we were kids. I don't remember if it was a Fury or a Belvedere (fins!) but I remember getting in trouble playing with the push button transmission in the driveway and getting the buttons jammed, but Dad could fix it. I still remember the smell of the package shelf in the back window where I used to sleep on long road trips. The next car was a '63 Bel Air station wagon. But my Mom's favorites were the '48 copper Studebaker Champion convertible and the '50 black Studebaker Land Cruiser (with what my Dad called the "sparrow strainer" on the front). Autronic Eye: yes have done research on them and know the model you mean. It went through several design evolutions as the technology available developed. The example I am showing here is really nice and I believe it is the 1st generation.
