impressive! and with little training specific for the Three. Definitely chill!

Two things of some concern: Lane shift markings (i.e. current or old construction where a lane shift has been newly put in place or removed to replace the old lanes... where the lane markings were not removed prior to the newer ones put in place) or where the lane markings are badly out of skew (i.e. the adhesive type after being overheated and then driven over turning them into squiggles) or faded. And city driving... there's not a lick of it in this vid. Highway is well and good over long distances, but how does it manage stop and go driving, especially since it's field of view is extremely narrow.

Do I understand it right by saying it does not change lane unless you ask for it by doing it yourself?
@LoganLeGrand
@LoganLeGrand 2 года назад
You turn on turn signal and give it a wheel touch to confirm and it will automate the lane change smoothly. I’ll admit I didn’t think it would be very useful but it actually is. It allows you to keep a better eye on traffic around you while doing the lane change.

This appears to function the same as Subaru's Eyesight system, except openpilot doesn't require you to keep your hands on the wheel? Would like to see how it handles less than ideal roads (e.g. the constant construction and repaired lines of the highways around here )
@goqsane
@goqsane 2 года назад
No, you're wrong. The EyeSight system is great in itself - but it won't ever even keep your car centered and stuck in the center of the lane. It will ping pong you from the bounds of the lane. I have a 2020 Outback and while I liked EyeSight - this system is 100x better. I can't imagine now having a car without Comma.

@@JonathanDavisJJ I have a 2021 Forester too and I promise you the openpilot upgrade is worth it over EyeSight. Yes they function similarly, but openpilot is much smoother and can handle turns a lot better than stock EyeSight. Also yeah I do like that I don't have to touch the wheel every 20s.
@JeanYvesHemlin
@JeanYvesHemlin 2 года назад
I was thinking the same thing : How does it handle even a small detour.
@goqsane
@goqsane 2 года назад
@@JeanYvesHemlin it handles roadworks, lane closures, anything that you can expect happening on a road - it'll actually fare very well. Obviously you need to supervise it and react in case you see anything dangerous happening. Just completed a weekend trip with many road works on the Interstate and the car was behaving beautifully. (Obviously had to change lanes that were closing but it kept and understood temporary lane markings)

What main feature(s) do you see between c2 and the c3 that would convince you to pay $2k for?
@AndrewKarmy
@AndrewKarmy 3 года назад
The improvement potential. Right now the C2 is at the very end of its life cycle and the hardware is pretty much maxed out. With the second forward camera the C3 has more situational awareness potential and will likely be much better at longitudinal via camera only that OpenPilot is moving towards. The C3’s camera sensors also have better dynamic range and low light sensors which means that night driving will be easier to support and more likely to accurately “see” even when it’s not ideal lighting conditions like sunsets/rises, glare, and other optical issues that plague cheap smartphone cameras like the C2 has. Also there is more hardware headroom on the C3. The cooling solution is dramatically improved and should result in more durability via better thermal management.

You shouldn't drive to keep the people behind you happy unless it's to avoid cutting them off. They'll go around.
@mmafan2223
@mmafan2223 3 года назад
@@cconnors it is equivalent to cutting the car behind. OP stock follow distance is like 5 car lengths or more. If someone pulls in front, your car will slow down to allow another 5 car lengths to the new lead car. That is unpredictable behavior compared to a human driver and the car behind can be caught off guard / cause road rage incident. Not chill.

@@mmafan2223 Agreed it's a bit annoying. But is this OP or the ACC? In my corolla the ACC does this anyways (without Comma), so I figured it's ACC doing it.
@mmafan2223
@mmafan2223 3 года назад
@@alexk6275 OP controls longitudinal for the TSS2 Corolla, so in this video the follow distance is being controlled by OP. ACC does this as well with radar (OP uses vision), but ACC allows three follow distances. The closest follow distance (1 bar) give about a 2 car length follow distance which helps to eliminate cut ins in front.
