Absolutely spot on, all I can say is I really like what you guys are about. Hopefully one day our paths well cross on some of these fishy waters together!
my grandfather (Bill Martin, original/former owner of the Royal Coachman Lodge) used to tell me stories about this place from back in the seventies-nineties. He used to hold the first permits for tent camps on the Kanektok and for a little extra he would fly you up in his beaver for a few days. this video depicts all his descriptions beautifully.
OPSkagit he would tell me that 10lb bows were abundant in the upper/middle region of the river. We have many pictures from the era. The few lodges in the area would allow one “trophy trout” per person, per trip. They tried to keep the impact small but fiberglass mounts weren’t really a concept in the early years.
Damn. Great vid Trevor, This has me seriously pumped. Heading to the Kanektok in 20days. For a Full length float, from the lake to the salt, 11days 100miles! Learned the casts from Jerry 2days on the Skagit in2015 and again on the OP 2016. Had dinner and beers w Trevor n Jerry at the puffn burger bar on the OP. The fish were nowhere to be found but I enjoyed every minute of it. Finally got a rig together recently 7wt Beulah can't wait to fling it in AK.
Thanks for the great tutorial, Trevor.. Lookin' forward to casting to those special K'tok 'Bows with some of that deadly OPST gear. Whole different thing.
sitting up all night working on editing an edit, and found this. What an amazing video! This is a magical place. I hope to be blessed enough to find this.
I have not try there lines yet ! But looks very effective. I sort of made my own heads for say my 11.3' 7# rod I'm use a 12# and short it down to 24' long and 330gr it shoots as crazy when you anchor your leader who is long 15' taperd that I'm use for salmon on low river's in Sweden Norway I have use it in Montana as well when I'm been there. I going to buy OPSC short skagit in weight 350gr and compere to my own hand made heads. Nice video 👌 Bjorn from 🇸🇪
Very cool video. I am looking forward to trying out my newly acquired OPST Commando 175 for my 4/5 weight trout rods and a 375 for my Sage Z 8110. The music is well matched. Who is it?
Might as well just drift fish with spinning rod at that point ! Fly rods are for top water flies, nymphs that’s when it’s fun. Not a lot of weight and beads
dunno, opts are over priced and don,t hold up as well as the airflo PVC lines,After one seasons use 2 commando heads that are cracking and becoming brittle, i pay far less for the Airflo product..my 2cents
+Benjamin Holm for sure, I should have held the trout lower in the water. In the realm of horrible fish handling this is not bad, there are guides who hold fish out of water and take pictures, drop fish in drift boats and use barbs. If 14.09 troubles you, you may not want to look at anymore photos or videos in the internet cause you will be appalled. If you look at the fish handling in this entire video you will see how much we care about these fish. Every fish I catch or my client catches always swim away. Thanks
