All the timeless classics from the past were made for this very day now, when Hollywood has nothing left to offer us anymore. And we don't care. Because we have so many decades of great movies to always watch.
Back when hollywood understood entertainment. And also human nature. A man's inner will to take on the whole world. I know that's how I feel often in this world. That's why many people hold this movie dear. What goes on on screen is what goes on in a man's heart. They bring out one of the most human aspects of humanity. This movie is beautiful.
Vernon Wells was dressed up as Freddie Mercury. Hidden messages have been there in the 70s but it was not the in your face kind of messaging they do today
This is when Hollywood could make great movies with NO agenda's . Just good pure story telling. With action! And as long as we have them in our movie collections they can NEVER be forgotten about or in 2022 NEVER be cancelled👍👍👍👍
There were "agendas" in films back then if you went looking for them. Even this film black actress playing a lead in a big budget film opposite one of the biggest white stars in the world as a quasi love interest was a milestone. Even Bill Duke eludes to this fact in this very interview. Films have always had agendas but in some cases depended on which side of the agenda you were on as to whether you picked up on it. Not to mention unless someone pointed it out many didn't realize it. With the internet and social media we have easy access to the opinions of millions of ordinary people and take queues from that. People have just become more aware due to the social media echo chambers they hang around in.
One of those special movies we 80's kids fell in love with. Rented this on VHS one day back in '85 and watched it that night, and had to watch it again the very next morning. It inspired an entire generation of kids to want to get into weight lifting/fitness.
A lot of people rave about Vernon Wells in this film, and rightly so he was awesome in it, but Bill Duke always seemed the most convincing to me, although Cooke was a relatively small part, I always felt he was the most genuinely fearsome opponent Arnold faced in this film. Absolute classic all around though, the 80's cheese has aged like a fine wine 😂
This movie is really speacial to me. i saw it in theater back in the days, with my very first girl friend ... 80's were really tasty years, I'm happy I knew them as a kid !
What a romantic: skop, skiet & donner/ kick, shoot & beat up movie for a date. Those were the days. My wife, who had to endure such movies on our dates, laughs at me even today. 😍😂🤣
I was born in the early 90s and my father always got me to watch Arnold, Sylvester, Van Damme etc. movies from that era when I was a kid & when it came on TV. I use to have them recorded on video cassette player. What a time it was. Some classic movies.
I just saw it again for the 100 times - and what strikes me is its one big thrid act - pretty much action from start to finish which is pretty rare - there is no borrowing character development :D
There are a lot in this movie. One I always noticed was the blue bronco that hits a bump and is clearly about to flip over... but is fine in the next scene.
I know it's corny, but I really loved this when it came out, and it still puts a smile on my face today. I can pretty much repeat the dialogue right through, and there are just so many memorable one-liners. Totally over the top, but still as fun as hell.
Awesome film. It just nails what it sets out to do brilliantly. So much fun. I've found myself working with Mark L.Lester this year on film projects too, which is a huge honour.
So I laughed in the scene with Annie and Sully. Did it the first time I saw it at a friend's birthday part in grade school, did it as a middle aged man. Love this movie
So it,s 1986 and my dad who is then in the Air force then comes back home in the evening with these old VCR Tapes and puts them on top of the TV and i quickly get up and take a glance at the tittles and i ask him, whats this movie commando and he responds, its about the guy with the ammunition. 37 years later i still go back to it and i must say it never gets old. The greatest movie ever
Rae dawn chong is gorgeous and gives it a human edge to balance the outrageous plot. If you watch 48 hours David Patrick Kelly had a similar role had a similar role driving an identical car
This is one of my favourite Arnold films, growing up in the 80s we were spoilt with great action, sci-fi, horror & comedy films /TV shows that was all about the entertainment of the viewers without a hint of preaching and identity politics that we are force fed nowadays(I miss the 80s & 90s entertainment)
I still think that Vernon Wells should have got loads more roles after that evil man performance. It was over the top but the character was meant to be a psycho so perfection.
Commando was the second movie I bought on VHS (the first was The Last Starfigter), and I still have it now. Commando's still a unique action movie. Even the cover is a cool looking army green colour. One part of the movie I've never understood, though, is why is Bennet wearing a knitted grey vest? It is supposed to be chain mail? It makes him look like more of a weirdo than a tough guy.
It was supposed to be a punkish chainmail outfit except the previous actor playing Bennett (that was replaced by Vern) was twice as small as Vern. So Vern had to wear the chainmail that was way too small for him but he made it work.
Almost got to talk to Arnold one evening while working in one of his restaurants at the meat chopper. I saw him come back into the kitchen area and he smiled and waved. When I walked up to him he looked at me and said, "Quick! Back to the choppa!"
I rented this so much on VHS the movies rental store called my house and wanted it back. I was so mad I didn’t rewind it and they charged us an additional 50¢
Im here for Arnie since this was one of my favorite movies ive seen as a kid numerous times but as an adult Vernon Wells was a riot! The man who said he felt good after getting electrocuted and got a power boost out of it. If that is not intense I dont know what else is!
Did you know that the girl here in the movie was also Sam and Phoebe? Sam is from a sitcom that's funny. And Phoebe is from that enchanting show when those pre-Christian girls are beguiled who has never in a long time and unleashes a power of a lack of gravity by floating the entire time which is a pretty interesting thing to do, especially not even a drone can be helped or involved into you as snapping pictures or recording videos in the air you know.
thinking about it, Bill Duke is totally right about casting RDC. a black actress who is also part native american and chinese as the female lead in 1985 is kinda ballsy and amazing
For your Information. Commando didn't started the " one man army " movie genre. That was Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo in First Blood back in 1982 ( Commando came out in 1985 ).
First Blood isn´t a one man army type of movie. Missing in Action is. And it came out before all of those, in 1984. If First Blood was a one man army movie, so is Death Hunt that came out before First Blood.
I respectfully disagree. Missing in Action came about two years after First Blood ; and Death Hunt was not about a " war veteran " , but about a,trapper that was being pursued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Nobody can tell me that whoever wrote this script and the dorector didnt have the character Bennett be potrayed as gay. Reminds me so much of nightmare on elm street part 2 that came out the year before
James Horner’s soundtrack makes this perfect film complete. Best Arnie film ever. Except predator. Actually they’re as good as each other for different reasons
