So are you gonna talk about Ultra Deluxe?
@BoogsNStuff
@BoogsNStuff 2 года назад
Yes! But, it'll be a while before I'll be ready to formulate my thoughts. This game is a very, very tangled web of self reference and criticism that'll take lots of careful time and thinking (and I'm curious what other people in the video essay sphere of RU-vid will have to say about it, so I'm also gonna wait for some videos others make to come out)

@@BoogsNStuff Agreed. It's a very different area that the original Stanley Parable as covering.

@@BoogsNStuff I'm excited to see your thoughts on the Ultra Deluxe now, since the game ending was the ending you have more problems with and also the ending with changes. they made the Firewatch sequence shorter then the minecraft so maybe you doesnt think is too long anymore, even tho it isnt the part you suggest get cut. Idk, just curious about what you have to say. Of course I also curious about the new content, I thought it was a very good meta comment on sequels, feel very fitting to the game, the 1st game comment about videogames as a whole, and now that is a "sequel" is a comment on sequels and little, but it also much more self-referential, since the game already exists to be comment on. Other thing I'm curious is what you think about the buckets endings, if the joke is to repetitive or you laugh with every ending I find both reactions to be commom, personally I think the bucket destroyer is probably the best bucket ending to annalyse, there is some sequel comment on that ending too. And finnaly what you think about the new importance they give to the escape pod ending, one of the most difficult ending to find by yourself in the original, that deffinilty felt like a minor ending now is a pretty important ending, that (if I understand correclty, since the game just came out I may be commiting mistakes) is one of the triggres to unlock the epilogue

@@Pedro999Paulo i'm more interested to see what Boogs thinks of the stanley figurines ending where it actually answers what exactly is the narrator and explains why stanley exists.

I feel like the point of the broom closet 'ending' is that it ISN'T an ending. The player just walks into the broom closet unprompted, and the narrator's only guess for what they were trying to accomplish is that they wanted an ending of some kind. So he says "Congrats! Woo! You got the ending! Now please leave the close and resume the story." It's not "make your own story!!1!" it's "there is literally no story at all in here, what are you doing"

Having thought about this game like others is definitely a thoughtfully enriching endeavor. And I do like how this video and the last retained an open mind on analyzing including other points of views and adding on them. I also like the intelligent disagreements to where it's not shutting down other ideas, rather saying that it may not be applicable in this chosen analysis which is very good - and to be able to put all of these analyzes in the structured way is already impressive - good job! 👍

I’ve always considered the actual meaningful choices in the game to be the seemingly meaningless ones before the real endings. The end goal cant be changed once you’re locked into a route, but the Narrator’s disposition and actual purpose change depending upon which path you take. He can be a game designer, a benevolent narrator, a spiteful punisher, a voice in Stanley’s head, etc., and it’s your seemingly meaningless choices that determine which form he takes. Even mundane things like the Broom Closet throw the Narrator for a loop and very briefly change his disposition. You have control and choice in The Stanley Parable, but they’re not the ones you might immediately look towards. Arguably Stanley has more power over the story than the Narrator does, and I consider that a very interesting look into the game’s themes. Great video, I’ve listened to your analysis of this game quite a few times.

In my opinion, several of these endings probably represent disconnects between entities in the game. The disconnect between person and controller, is the true ending. Stanley is still moving, still living life, but you're not controlling him. He is. The disconnect between controller and Stanley, is the free will ending. At the end, when you're observing Stanley from above, you can still control... something. You still have control, but not of Stanley. The disconnect between Stanley and the narrator is the games ending. You're left to wander the empty halls of the old Stanley parable, with no narration. The disconnect between the narrator and the story is the confusion ending. The narrator has lost the story. There is no story anymore. Just you and the narrator, walking randomly.

can't wait for the ultra-deluxe video, because it has some interesting things, such as the meta narrator changing her stance depending on if you have a bucket, as well as changing the games while keeping the first game as being open world, which is good, but perhaps the most exciting thing is that there's content for both the shelves and the pit area now, as well as content for permanently enabling jumps, done by resetting the game while in the jump circle (with at least 1 jump left). The narrative analysis of the bucket ( the most important thing in ultra deluxe) is something I look forward to.

hey i have a theory every end is that stanley dies(not all of them some of them just they make a work place where stanley stands(probobly)) and while dying this comes to his mind so when u first start the game that is the one that u first dying moment! and when ur doing the free chocie ending if u dont go top of the cargo lift but go side of it and press ctrl turn to the cargo lift and u can jump down to where pakacages are (you have to unplug the phone tho)

In response to your response of my comment, yeah I think it was unintentional. The fade-in is present during all the Confusion Ending "restarts" in Ultra Deluxe.
