Joel Graves from American Survival Co. and Chris Weatherman chat about Virginia creeper. Though it looks similar to poison ivy, it is not, however it doesn't have any edible or medicinal uses either.

Myself and all my siblings had such a bad reaction to Virginia creeper all over our house. It reacted like poison ivy and we had to get shots for it.

Virginia Creeper often grows right next to poison ivy, so it can rub up again poison ivy and get the urushiol oil on it.

Also that is where some people think they could be allergic to virgina creepers.

Out in the bush you can find large areas of this stuff. It doesn't always need trees to grow. A lot of time you will only see 3 leaves. The way to tell the difference between poison ivy and Virginia creeper is Virginia creeper has tiny thorns on the stem

I and my neighbor both have terrible reactions to Virginia Creeper. Evil weed right there. Can't get rid of it soon enough!

I'm one of the unfortunate souls who break out like poison oak and ivy.

Me too - though not as bad as when I was a child. It was bad enough that it usually took a shot to stop it. Now I can usually break it up with rubbing alcohol and calamine in a few days.

Thank you for the video! My daughter told me it was NOT poison ivy! I always got them mixed up. I can't wait to tell her that I actually know the name of it now, Virginia Creeper! It has over taken my entire yard, fence and side of house! I was afraid to touch it (even though I knew the saying "leaves of three, let it be.)

Crazy to see someone touch this stuff! I had to get a steroid injection after weedeating it on accident.

In the Mid-Atlantic that stuff grows long and thick, so much that you can swing from its vines. We used to swing from its vines all of the time as a child. It can get to be very thick, almost as thick as an adult's wrist. I wish they'd shown the thick base vine.

My dad doesn't react to any plant, but the rest of us have virulent reactions to Virginia Creeper, dead or alive.

yeah its not poison ivy but they can grow right beside each other, and since some are allergic its best to just avoid it entirely.

I do lawn maintenance/landscaping in Florida and Virginia creeper is a pain in the butt. Constantly pulling that stuff out of hedges and flower beds. I am allergic to poison ivy a lil and there has been times where I was pulling out Virginia creeper and had a lil itch but most of the time it’s not bad just annoying.

We actually lost a sale on a home we were selling, because the people thought a tiny bit of Virginia Creeper was poison ivy. I think it looks just fine on a fence, but we had to remove all traces of it and had to use poison, which I am totally against. Part of living in a rural area, though it will take over where ever it gains a foot hold.

Definetely wouldnt suggest trying to touch this stuff, I'm sitting here with a bad rash from it on my right arm from just barely touching it, trying to get it off of my house! I even scrubbed my arm with Dawn and took a shower afterwards!

Are you sure it wasn’t poison ivy? Looks very similar and can be found growing together in the same place. I have never heard of anyone having a reaction to Virginia creeper.
@mattwilliams8140

@@SurvivalDispatch Yeah, it's not poison ivy, it's got 5 leaves on it and looks similar to whats in this video and I didn't touch any other type of vines. I broke out from this same stuff about a year or 2 ago as well but it was way worse! The ones at my house, the new growth has like bronze and red coloration but I can't seem to find a photo online of Virginia Creeper with those same colors which kind of made me question if that's what it was....

I quickly break out bad, but than wash my hands and arms with soap and it goes away as rapid as it hit, and the flair up is really itchy but not death feeling level. The stuff in my yard is absolutely Virginia Creeper, serrated margins, not smooth "entire" like Poison Ivy.
@whatabouttheearth
@whatabouttheearth 8 месяцев назад
I get a bad itchy rash outbreak quick, but soap and water makes it disappear as fast as it came. I read alot of stuff saying there are uses, vatious herb books including 'Native American Ethnobotany' by Daniel Moerman, and most things online. But its the roots, berries and stems, not the leaf. I'll have to research further.

I thought it was poison ivy too as som of the off shoots look as if there are only 3 leaves on it, but if you looked closer the two bottom leaves are much smaller than the other three.

I will raise my hand and be the guy that is allergic to it. I break out just as if it were poison ivy. It's not fun as the stuff is literally everywhere in my area. Much more prevalent than actual poison ivy.

I put some dirt from a friend in my raspberry row. Now I have Virginia creeper growing in there. I would like to transplant it to a fence line that needs covering. How and when do I transplant Virginia creeper?

From what I see, cut off a few chunks, put them on the ground and water. Roots from the leaf joints. Vigorous.....way too vigorous.

Poison Oak: I grew up thinking this was Poison Oak until my son was in BOY Scouts and learned the truth. I got shots for Poison Ivy as a child in the 60's.

Try having armies of invasives like Chinese Privet and Lesser Perry Winkle, that stuff is unbearably aggressive, and Lesser Perry Winkle grows as a creeper mat on the ground. State of Missouri wants both those plants deader than a doorknob.

This was a totally useless video. Plus, the title got my hopes up that virginia creeper had some use,which would be great because it is so prevalent and vigorous. Strike one guys.
