Check. Check. Check. I think I've mastered virtually all the techniques of incorrect rowing. Going to replay before my next gym session.

I feel like such an idiot. I just started rowing and I kept moving the rower away from the wall since my elbows would hit the wall.Turns out I'm just a big chicken winger. UGH.

I recently turned an ankle and have had to abandon running for a little while. I jumped on the row machine yesterday and really enjoyed it! It was the first time I had been on one. I think I will be adding this to my cardio and cut back on the knee pounding running a little. This video was great and might just keep me from looking like a goof while doing it. Now to figure out what the display on the machine means...

+Djumbo I've trained plenty of experienced rowers with bad technique, but it's easy for them to correct it with proper cuing. The most common mistake among beginners and athletes alike is favoring the smaller muscles (biceps and quads) versus engaging the larger, more powerful muscles (lats and gluteal muscles) to produce the power.

Yeah, I did a summer rowing session (so 7 2hr lessons, not a lot) and then when I was back at the gym ended up in a debate with the trainer. He insisted that the knees going in before hands was correct and to not do the lean back to 11 o'clock... I'm no expert but I at least got that!

Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ru-vid.comUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

Thank you so much for this excellent video. It has helped me to work out what has caused me to get left lateral epicondylitis. I must over-grip at times and probably have done the chicken-wing thing on occasion. I do have Dopa Responsive Dystonia so my grip will be 'off' at times. I will get my personal trainer to check my hand grip. We are a good team and she is a great trainer, so I'm sure we will get on top of this issue. Thanks again for these great rowing technique videos.

I row (I'm 13) and can do 5k in about 18 minutes... 14k in 60 minutes is awesome, just give yourself a rest. Make sure you have a straight back, otherwise you may face injury in the future... Also if you are a rower, or wanting to begin, I would recommend not doing 14k, since its a long distance your technique may lack due to tiredness, and you can get into bad habits such as this video states. Good job though, I'm impressed. I tried 60 minutes rowing and did 16k. Enjoy rowing my friend:)

After rowing three times per week for a couple of years I noticed that my kneecap was starting to lock. I discontinued rowing and the problem got better. Unfortunately, when I started rowing again - and as my quadriceps got stronger and stronger - the problem came back. I went to see a physio and was given exercises to ... strenghthen my quads. The problem remained. Is this a common injury among rowers and does it have a name? Any relevant advice would be much appreciated!

I see rushing the slide as a disadvantage in terms of fitness rowing on indoor machines because you lose some tension on the muscle and don't get as much eccentric stress on the muscles, which some people look at as beneficial. It may be safer to have a more delayed eccentric because if you do it very fast and 'drop' the weight, you might jerk yourself decelerating the handle when you switch the begin the eccentric. Actual boat-rowing is different though, because there isn't eccentric resistanc

The only problem I'm aware of that stems from short legs is that people like that have a tendency to rush the slide especially when stroke seat is taller. This however makes it easier for them to achieve a faster stroke rate.

I learned a lot from this video however I would like to know- where should a person's heels be positioned on the footrest? Has anyone else experienced knee strain from having your foot in the wrong position ( I have tried a few different placements) and what is the maximum time you can spend on the rower per day? I am overweight and want to buy one for weight loss as I have large breasts. Thank you for any feedback.
@Yknotvideos
@Yknotvideos 11 лет назад
one thing that i noticed that is debatable is the "chicken-wing arms" thing. The reason why people do it is to use the lats instead of the smaller muscles in your arms and wrists. It helps you to get more power out of your stroke.

Been rowing quite a bit lately, but still a beginner. I'm otherwise a runner, so haven't really tried rowing until the last few weeks, and lately mainly because of an injury, which I got after rowing lol. I have better technique now and take it slower. But well, I have noticed that having short legs is not beneficial. I think the techniques shown here are for long legged, at least some of it. The lady showing this must be really tall, almost reaching the end. How to row fast with short legs?

why is it ineffective to rush the slide? i know you need more energy to do so, but you can make more strokes per minute, so you can get a higher speed (less time on 500m).

Then you are not ready for a 10k. Form is one of the most important aspects of exercise and motion. Poor form leads to poor movement patterns and compensations which increase risk of injury among other problems.

@vincentvergara5326
@vincentvergara5326 8 лет назад
+GR Aguirre +Seth Ritcey You have a muscle imbalance causing the hips to externally rotate. I know you want a straightforward answer, but the culprit can be the hip, knee or ankle. A flexibility and functional movement assessment will tell you what areas need to be stretched or strengthened so that you won't need to constantly watch the knees every stroke.
@EnergiaAthletics
@EnergiaAthletics 7 лет назад
I would guess tight glutes and hams could be the culprit. Warm up, then do some stretches - pigeon pose, seated forward bends. Make sure you warm up the muscles first before stretching!

I gave up after the tenth thing I'm doing wrong. Seems to me the device could use a few more features, to help correct these mistakes. e.g. a backing for the seat, so you can tell when you are leaning too far backwards. Or indicators showing that your tempo is wrong.

This machine was built specifically for rowers as it mimics the feeling of actually rowing on the water. The only difference being that the handle is neutral so that it does not matter wether you are a port or a starboard rower. The slide is exactly the same as it is on an actual boat. Since the majority of people using ergs are rowers, there is no reason for those added features as a rower needs to learn how to row without relying on anything but themselves and their fellow rowers and coxswain
@annajoy6357
@annajoy6357 7 лет назад
