Communal Narcissism- what is it and how to cope 

I just love this description because it matches my sister better than almost every other description I've heard (and I think I've heard thousands). Of course we all know there are different "styles" of narcissism, even though they are all motivated by a need for supply and to appear as if they are "special" or "better than" those around them....and yes, as you stated, I truly do believe these styles are determined by which tactics have been the most effective for them in their own life. I have only recently concluded that a narcissist doesn't necessarily have to fit neatly into just one type of narcissism (i.e. grandiose, covert, communal, etc..) and that my sisters behavior indicates a combination of "communal narcissism" and "covert narcissism". It sound like this very combination is what you're mostly describing here. Thank you for sharing...You da "balm"!

I was in a Buddhist organization called Soka Gakki and the leader Disaku Ikeda is the biggest communal narcissist and you described him as well as the leaders within the organization exactly. I am so glad I am out of this cult.I wish everyone who is part of it would see your video to help them get in brainwashed.I really appreciate your video.

Thank you for this video. I also glad you went over the first example of communal narcissists pretending to help the homeless. It's really sad that narcissists would stoop so low to prey on the vulnerable population. 😔

I have been dealing with someone who is Communal Narcissism. He is actually homeless. He has this vision that he is here to start a homeless emporium, and has illusions of being a great savior and of being a cult leader. I have been involved in community service with many of the un-housed in our community but I try to stay clear of him. He brings out the worst in me.

My mother is a communal narc. appears to be very charitable to the public,but in private emotionally and verbally abusive, aggressive and malicious.

When I was staying at a homeless shelter a few years ago (in the U.S.), there were newscasters at the shelters, filming other patrons receiving gifts. Behind closed doors in another room, I overheard a staff member (one of the female supervisors) bad-mouthing the other female patron while she was trying on boots). This same supervisor is very mean and would always threaten patrons like me at the time that she'll put us out of the shelter, especially in the cold. I never liked her attitude and it turned out that most (if not all) staff were very toxic. I've decided to stay away from shelters until they do something about these (suspecting) communal narcissists among us all. 😠😞

So well explained. I unfortunately encountered many such individuals in my professional career but took me years to understand this. I would ask myself how someone working to help others can at the same time treat colleagues, etc. so badly, it made no sense to me then...
