+CHeath You are EXACTLY right my friend. I believe a respectable Tire Shop would be proud to show that they are doing the RIGHT thing with their old tires, and would be happy to prove it too.
they are required to so just that. the thing is the tires generally just end up moving from one illegal "recycler" to another. each one trying to pass the buck because they don't want to do the work until the cycle gets to something like this. and then it generally continues. you hear the relief stories where the Giant mess finally got cleaned up, but to where. they need to follow the story to make sure the people picking them up actually recycled them and didn't just dump them 10 blocks down the road.
Not necessary. Old tires can be recycled. They make speed humps, parking blocks etc. Pay people $1.00 per tire to turn into a tire recycling center. Detroit should have a couple tire recycling centers built. If people turn in old tires they would get $1.00 & $5.00 for really big tires. Old other things like couches & mattresses should get $10.00 each. Basically people with trucks can make extra money turning in trash.
The problem is old tires usually cost more to recycle than the resulting material is worth at the end. As such, most old tires end up being buried in designated locations.
The best thing is the guy asked “mayor can you get trash bags, dumpsters” so he asked for the supplies to do the work themselves not asks for the city to do it
Yes what a guy. Willing to do the work if he could just get some dumpsters trash bags anything. GOD bless him. I hear people like that loud and clear what a treasure he is in this world.
good on WXYZ for helping the residents to get their voice heard and get action taken. These residents are taking pride in their community and they are being overlooked. All it takes is for someone like the spokeswoman to come out and access the situation. The residents care so why can't their local government????
Never been charged to dispose my tires and I went to a lot throughout the years. They just charge me the repair or for a new tire, but not to dispose it.
That's exactly my thoughts and I bet you you be surprised on who's dumping them is probably the albanians and the Middle Eastern people dumping them cousin Detroit by the ones who own all those Tire businesses
this is what it takes to fix these communities. people have to ban together and when they see the illegal dumping they need to call the police. not ignore it.
@@1212goose I hate to break it to you bud but in several parts of the world, tires is spelled tyres. Don't make yourself look bad. Even when you might be right (you're not in this case), is it really worth commenting like that? There's already too much negativity in the world.
yeah, the transport to the next abandoned neighborhood. if there is one on your way home you can save 40 bucks and dispose them yourself in a random backyard lol
@@joeyvieira9618 I crossed into Windsor once and these 8 guys with sticks and body armor chased after me. One of them had a Michael Voorhees mask on and they all had knives attached to their feet. I was lucky to get away.
😂 that’s funny I left Windsor! Several bullied my child. If I knew who they were, they’d definitely have problems! She so graduated with multiple honors where we’d moved to. There are issues in different places. They’ve been boarding up windows on homes in Windsor. I went to high school there too, on the East and west ends. Don’t go where you can’t handle it.
You guys rushed this story should of followed this tire guys get them on camera so they can go to jail get fined and make it known who's littering the city.
The shops may be paying to have them removed,it might be the disposal contractor that is dumping the tires illegally. Do the homework before pointing fingers.
No. Shit. Exactly when do these turds come by - 3 a.m.? And how do they get into these vacant houses, dump these quantities and no one notices anything? This is just too friggin weird.
@@Scriptorsilentum you ever been to any kind of "hood" A very common saying is "aint none of my business" with pretty much any crime but severe child abuse or potential rape Of course people see it a lot modern hood people just think "everyman for 'they'self'"
I have seen a process of road building using old tires right here on YT. Looks like the only tires seen on the cars around there are space saver spares.
Until they get those abandoned homes knocked down, and hi res security cameras set up, it will keep happening. Need to fix the root cause, not the symptoms.
They will be filled back up with tires in a month... FYI, if you need to dump tires, now it is easier. Just put them on the side of the road with the rest. No need to go to the extra effort of hiding them. The city should build a plant to grind them up for re-use. Streets can be made out of them, and jobs could created for reclaiming them. I am disgusted that intelligent people couldn't come up with a REAL solution, just a feel-good piece for the press to exploit.
Everyone put your awesome brains to work and let's come up with a bunch of ideas for putting old tires to good use!?! Junk yards can use them for organizing walls in their yards! There's videos that show everyday people doing amazing things with them, so it can be done!!!
I love how some cities use them, shredding them for running tracks at schools/ walkways 🏃♂️ 🚶🏾 instead of cement. I think on how we’ve been here for years, working, and we still need a home, and it’s sad that they’re only filled this way… 🤲 🙏
Defiantly a neighbor who lives next door, that works at a tire place and just drives home from work each day and drops off tires for some free gas money
They need to audit all tire shops in Detroit. If they sell a tire they need a receipt for a tire disposed of at the dump or wherever used tires are disposed. They should also tax all tire shops to cover the cost of getting rid of these tires.
Because the crime is too high and these homes would probably cost over $50,000.00 each to just get up to code. It would be cheaper to build a housing project but history has shown those lead to massive spikes in crime. The solution is for the community to rise up and take care of matters themselves.
That’s truly a fire hazard I speak for experience In my hometown mafia burned down a local tire business burned for days I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that those houses belongs to the one individual/realtor/bank etc
Imagine the smoke from a fire that would cause. Thats amazing. The problem is nobody calls or records them and goes to the city and have them busted. Don't complain after the fact.
I’d take advantage of this and be taking this all day long using them for various of things including burnouts bc there is always a few usable tires in there
7/25/18.....This is an older YT video.....It seems a tire recycler could/would show up & start at 1 end of the street & clear each house/yard of these tires....& remove for shredding/sale. The whole street/community had to know about these tires b/c it certainly didn't happen over night. IF/WHEN anybody sees the tires being dumped, either film with your phone or get the name on the side of the tire truck bringing in/ dumping these tires---or video & get the tag/plate on the truck for the police. That way they can be taken to court & fined & WON'T DO THIS AGAIN! Geez Detroit---HOW could you allow this to happen?
Serious question for the pondering: What would the EPA say about this? And would anyone in the EPA or their state counterpart be interested in taking initiative to have these tires recycled?
We have heard and saw how the city council decided to jump on board and clear this mess away, but what are they going to do to prevent this becoming a dumping ground again?
Those tires added value to those houses. There are LOTS of houses for sale for $2500 in Detroit. Basically priced for the land because most of the houses should be plowed.
Good on the community for coming together and cleaning up that mess. Some of those that work for the city need to be fucking FIRED, you can't tell me they didn't know about this.
Pass a law if tire disposal doesn't match tire sales, they lose businesses licence. I would also put cameras catching the dumping. Neighbors should have footage
