When the guy being paid to tear down the houses is upset at the waste, the waste is huge. Habitat for humanity could definitely have founds use for most of those windows, much of the siding, and probably a lot of the stuff interior like cabinets, doors, and some wood flooring materials.
I just don't see any need to tear down the homes at all. They have some issues but I have to think it could be addressed for a lot less then starting over.
@@SL-lz9jr Depending on the structural integrity of the building, the distance it needs to be moved, the value of the structure, the type and number of utility lines and other structures that would have to be moved, the width and stability of the roads to be traveled, and various codes and ordinances... It may cost much more to move a house than to tear it down, throw away everything involved, and build another structure in the new location. - Most houses that get moved are older, historical, and/or owned by people who have enough attachment to the house to put forth the expenditures.
@@cascorick8253 the door frame is already there, they probably removed the steps so people didn't remove the wood and go in again, the plywood is a sign of broken doors and or windows, more than likely a break in.
The reason we can't get affordable housing for low income families is that these greedy politicians and contractors all start sticking their greedy little hands into the money jar. These effected communities needs to March down to their offices and peacefully protest until positive change takes place.
The cool thing about Detroit is if you have at least a 5th grade education in any other state you can be be the mayor of Detroit. If you dropped out anytime before 5th grade you it ok you can still be the Superintendent of the school board
APPARENTLY YOU WEREN’T listening to the broadcast...HIGHLAND PARK is NOT DETROIT , Detroit has NOTHING to do with HIGHLAND PARKS politics or it’s housing programs . KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT before you ad your useless comments
Two words: Economic Development. When you hear these words caution is recommended. Normally associated with mismanagement, nepotism, cronyism, graft, kickbacks, fuzzy accounting, vague chain of command, solutions for undefined problems, non-bid contracts, and a lot people unable to answer simple questions.
Too easy .... That actually makes sense.... We do that here . There's specialists who come through and remove useable fixtures for resell ... Windows , doors , sinks ... Even the wood ...
Cuttingtorch not really I'm in architectural salvage and there's great $$$ in it, I could of made at least $5,000 off of the salvage in that and we're not talking scrap.
Don't you know it - and esp. old wood - if it is from virgin forests (not these new homes but old ones) it's rock solid. Have seen some amazing lumber pulled from old homes and abandoned barns.
@@foodandart5808 yes real wood is the only way to go......osb , masonite, mdf are garbage.....these houses were prob made of osb, 2x4 frames, and Chinese drywall....i restore old stereo equipment and I've seen what particle board looks like after 20+ yrs...
True to a degree, but some of the homes have not been updated. A lot of those structures could be 100+ years old. Better built sure, but in need of TLC.
sadly most of the issues these houses had could have been corrected, but I'm sure that would just lead to more corruption. Corruption in this country is like a disease.
This is much bigger than anyone can imagine, especially if you're from Michigan. When they designated a "Emergency Manager" what you weren't told, is they took over the supervisors power and responsibilities for every single Township statewide. To make matters even worse, they filed an unconstitutional lien against every registered voter designating them as surety for the city of Detroit's bankruptcy.
@@MrManAmong , My neighbor and I compiled the evidence of this fraud nearly 8 years ago. If you're interested? we made a video of how they managed to pull off this fraud. Chances are they've done it in every state and your a victim as well. Go to the Robbbryder channel, and watch the video titled; " Video for Doo ers" If you find that one interesting and informative, you'll enjoy how we managed successfully taking Gretchen Whitmer to court. That one's titled; "Gretchen has a hearing" Enjoy!
We now have 3 parties in the federal government. Corporate bought out Dems, Corporate bought out Republicans, and now Socialists. What happened to the ethical capitalists that once controlled our government?
They all either went out of business or got greedy and bought out the Republicans and Democrats because it was 100 times easier than trying to run an ethical business while other businessmen passed them in profits by buying favors from Republicans and Democrats... -.-
J Groenveld those houses were gutted for the copper wiring and pipes long before the wreckers came if the siding was aluminum I’m sure they would of stripped that too as for the windows they probably have plexiglass frames since they were fairly new construction
Firt he says the project was "doomed from the start" and gives reasons. Then he says it could have been made to work. It can't be both and a convicted crimina with his history shouldn't be in charge of a charity collecting tin.
@@stephenlacher5460 "Dark shade"? The Jewish convicted felon connected to this and other housing scams is very clearly white as it gets. What a shitty troll. lol
Really, no one knows what's going on in one of the most corrupt cities in the country we're kickbacks and payoffs and bribes are commonplace Everyone knows what's going on It's business as usual in Detroit
As bad as so many people needs homes ,This is in sane .It had to be so many people involved to be able to pull this off , Follow the money ... This is enough to make me sick.
my only question: Was a single elected politician or their party made to face political consequences such as losing to the opposition party? or did the people continue to vote the same way and wonder why things never change...
Habitat for humanity just throws money away. They help people in the worse city’s and neighborhoods. If they built homes in more rural areas for people I bet it would work
Reminds me of something that happened in my home town. They demolished an entire block of OLD stores and stuff downtown, to build some new building... it stayed as a fenced off grass covered lot for at least 3-5 years (no one could get in, since it was fenced off, so it didn't even get to be used as a small park), spent several more years as a giant hole in the ground, and has been under actual construction for over 5 years. This has been going on for WELL over a decade. It's just been an eye sore for more than half of that time, and will be when it's done too. It's ruined the view from the 5-6 story library across the street (not that the view is important or very valuable, but it does add insult to injury). They ran out of money part way through, and it's not the first time it happened with the exact same people in charge.
All these homeless people and people who want homes but can't seem to get through all the red tape. You use taxpayers money and build crap to try to sell to people that are so desperate to get a house. This is VERY sad. Who gave the builders the permits? All of them are shady!!
It's sad that these houses couldn't have been gutted of usable building materials like doors/windows/counters/sinks etc, to be used elsewhere. But I guess it's better to take them down before they become zombie houses where drugs are dealt or become stash houses for guns......
If they can't take care of your old home, and neighborhood , by mowing the yard keeping it clean , picking up trash , just doing the basics to keep your area nice and clean, what difference would it make building new homes.
Of course! It's always a great idea on paper, but when all that allocated project money starts to roll in, the people in charge start salivating about their own wants and needs, and the project is doomed from the start... Always that taking from the top!
Soooooo y'all are not going to finish fixing these homes to be deemed livable, instead of paying more taxpayers money to tear down these homes? Smart Michigan real smart well done........ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 SMH
Hell, even a 50-year-old house is new when referring to a house. Then again that is coming from a brit living in a victorian house well over 100 years out like most of the houses in this city.
This is also why despite there being fantastic deals on properties and homes in the Detroit area.... No one is moving there! Between the corrupt politicians and the greedy city and parish governments and crooked contractors, developers and mortgage and loan companies it's just not worth it. I looked at moving there because I found many huge older homes... Victorian mansions! They were damaged but worth restoring. I could buy them for as little as $2000! But when I inquired about financing and permits.... I was told that I had to hire a "permit agent" in order to get the needed permits and clearances. It was going to cost me $14,000 just to get the permit applications completed! Then another $4000 for the permits... wether I got them or not! They basically made it so expensive and complicated to even get started that no way was I going to go any further....
That sure seems like a ridiculous waste. Things happened in the initial designs? Head contractor was not on site. Was there a head contractor? Security fencing? And approved inspections. Were there even inspections?
I hope there's an update to this story furthermore why the hell can they move the houses literally to better locations because Riley is I see them Jack houses up and physically move the building and then send somebody in to repair what needs to be fixed for two or three of the houses together and then turned into Apartments three levels boom you can have apartment on each level why not what a freaking wife I live in a damn junkyard of a 1981 Journey model that's falling apart that's all I can afford rent the lot is 400 and I'm 100% disabled I would have killed for one of them houses be here in Tennessee where I live
THE REASON IT FELL APART WAS BECAUSE "A GOVERNMENT" WAS INVOLVED. All the city, county , state and Federal governments are corrupt and that's just what they do. Destroy everything they touch.
Wow thts awful we have so many homeless people in our country. Those homes could have been donated to the homeless or section 8 anything besides tearing it down . We have so many homeless people out here today and they’re just tearing down almost brand new homes like it ain’t nothing that’s sick.
I believe the real Michigan is outside of Detroit and Flint. Those crapholes don't represent Michigan as a whole. The spirit of Michigan shows in the Ted Nugents and Kid Rocks and I believe is catching in the state.
