But it did. The outcry is why Yahoo picked it up when it basically was cancelled. Yes we never got the movie. But I don't know if that could've succeeded successfully with all the ups and downs that the series had to survive.
Sadly, I don't have this box set, but Community is on Netflix now and I've been binging it over the last almost two weeks now and I'm almost finished season 3. Such an awesome show. Like you, I was resistant to watching it because it started when I was still in college, and I didn't want to watch a show about my life in the middle of living my life. Lol. But when it hit Netflix, I dove in and am really enjoying it.
Awesome review! I keep seeing this set at Best Buy and it calls my name. Community is one of my favorite shows, but I wasn't too sure if Mill Creek had done a good job on the set. On your recommendation, I'll be picking it up!
I think they did a great job with it, with the exceptions I mentioned, like that stacked discs. Also, it’s the only Blu-ray release the show will probably ever get.
Dude, if you love self referential humor definitely check out 30 Rock. The first season is a bit hard to get through, but Season 2 onward is insanely funny and has great humor, bits, fourth wall breaking, pop culture references. I think you'd love it. I hope Mill Creek does a Complete Series release of it soon. Great video. Love Community so much!
Great review! I loved the show on first airing. I saved the Tivo of the season 2 episode "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons" and had a bunch of childhood buddies over that I used to play D&D with in the 70's and 80's. We never laughed harder. With the way things are now, of course that episode is now banned from the streaming sites. Just bought this set, and will be happy to watch the FULL series again.
Great Review, Heath! I watched Community when it aired (or as I DVR'd it), and it was great! It's funny to watch it with groups, and even talking afterward, feel like you were the only one who got the references. Did you see the Paley Center session with the cast? I'd be interested in your thoughts about those in general.
That's a great review. I have the Mill Creek DVD set of Community but have only watched a few episodes so now I feel like I need to see more. The picture is fine on DVD and is much cheaper to buy. I also have the Rockford Files set (DVD) which is one of my all-time favorites. Now I would love a Mill Creek Maverick set. That would be the ultimate for me.
The downside is that the dvd release had a lot of cool packaging for the cases. All that is lost in the bluray set...instead its just the big C on the outside and blank on the inside.
Cereal At Midnight No worries! Just wondering since it arrived yesterday in the mail scratched. There's no playback issues or anything but I'm thinking of getting the cases just to be on the safe side
Never had any interest in Community, but now you make me want to check it out. Could you review the Rockford Files next? Loved that show when it first came out. Heard that the episodes aren’t the full original episodes, but are cut by a couple minutes. Would love to hear your thoughts. .
Charles, Rockford Files is actually the series I'm currently watching. I'm in the second half of season one, but I can tell you that the episodes are not cut at all. Each one runs around 50 minutes (except for a couple of special episodes which are 75 minutes), and I've cross-checked that with IMDB, which lists them at 50 minutes as well. Furthermore, I see no evidence of cuts at all. There's some guy on Amazon shouting about how the first season is missing 23 minutes and each episode is 20 seconds shorter than the broadcast version, but I can find no evidence of that--not in researching and not by watching the shows. They're complete. I will say that the pilot of the show was shot at around 70 minutes and then additional stock footage of James Garner driving around was shot and added the episode to bring it up to feature length to make it a TV movie. Apparently the original DVDs (not the Mill Creek ones) had a shorter version of the pilot without the padded footage. The Mill Creek Blu-rays present the pilot in two parts, and each part is 50 minutes. So nothing is missing. In all honesty, Rockford Files has become one of my most prized possessions.
By season 2, the show is playing by its own rules, and by season four and five, it's so far into its own world that it's amazing any network let them get away with it. Really amazing, insider stuff. Self-indulgent, yes, but I can't think of anything else like it besides Rick and Morty, which Dan Harmon co-created after this.
Tried to watch Community when it first came on tv but just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it another go. Have you seen a Canadian comedy titled Corner Gas? We found it on Amazon Prime and we were hooked. Very funny, subtle comedy. Great show. We will be buying the series on dvd soon.
Cereal Midnight, Best Buy currently has the Community set for $40 do you recommend I upgrade to the Bluray set ? I do plan to keep the DVDs because of the missing extras on the Bluray set
I actually agree with you. I like Rick and Morty, but there’s a mean streak running through it that keeps me from loving it. On Community, everyone is working to be better. On Rick and Morty, they’re just like “eff it.”
Community is a better show. Better constructed, better characters, etc But i loooooove me some R&M. I like the crazyness of it. the 'eff it' of it, as you said. And from time to time, there's some genuine character moments, and also some great action scenes
It's fan-freaking-tastic. If you like smart mystery stories with likable characters (few were more likable than James Garner) cool cars, real practical stunts in every episode, Los Angeles of the 1970s, it's great. I'll definitely be talking more about it, but I can't recommend it enough for a certain kind of viewer.
i just finished watching the series on Netflix and because ive seen Netflix remove shows before, i had to get the blu ray disc set. Really great show and im still waiting on the #sixseasonsandamovie
Netflix removed an episode in season 2 called advanced dungeons and dragons. Its one of the best episodes which makes me want to try and get the blu ray
I watched quite a few episodes of Community each season and loved it but I just seemed to always miss the show more than I was able to watch it. I've always wanted to watch it in its entirety. We've been watching entire seasons of TV shows on DVD/blu ray (mainly inspired by this channel) and are on 30 Rock right now on. I know we'll be looking for "the next show" and Community is going to be it! Also did you spot the episode that inspired Bendis to come up with the creation around Miles Morales??
You guys will love the show. The only thing I’ve seen that might have inspired Bendis is a scene where Donald Glover wakes up in Spider-Man pajamas. I believe it’s the season 2 premiere. Seriously only about 5 seconds.
Great videos just subscribe to your channel ,been trying to catch up on them . Question what's a good and not to expensive blu ray player. I dont have one right now .But after watching your videos I want one and start buying blu-ray movies.Have some regular dvd. Thanks for any help you can give me. Keep up the great job...Thanks again..
Thanks for the sub, and I hope you're enjoying the videos! I have an older version of this LG Blu-ray player and I love it. it's lightning fast and has played every file format I've thrown at it. 70 bucks US. Of all the players I have, it's my favorite. www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-bp175-streaming-audio-blu-ray-player-black/5979505.p?skuId=5979505

@@CerealAtMidnight You're right. I'm telling Kelly, I'm the boss and I'm buying the Blue-ray set. I'll make sure she knows you gave me the courage to confront her....
