We finally got the KB2485 backhoe for the Kioti DK60SE. Today I'm going to give a quick overview and controls and use and see how it does cleaning up a hillside.

2 things 1) Get a thumb. Even a mechanical one is better than no thumb. 2) lower your RPMs on your tractor when using the backhoe. Rising the RPMs will not increase the power of the hydrologic system, only the speed at which they move. If you keep the RPMs down your backhoe boom and bucket movement will be much smoother. As you gain experience and develop your own method you can increase the RPMs to speed up work efficiency.

A thumb is definitely on my wish list! I was running the RPMs low while getting used to the backhoe and right now run around 2,500 RPMs. Much quicker on the movements for sure!

Not a criticism, because it looks great to see years of growth cleared out there so you can enjoy the beauty of those walls…so I’m offering an observation. If you need to do that again (especially now that you have a grapple), go through with a powersaw first, even a small 14-16 inch bar, and drop all those small trees that create a spiders web fouling up your boom. Then you have a better view of what lies behind, beneath and around. You’ll be ripping just small stumps out. What a change in appearance!! I love it!! Oh, and I love that handle that releases the boom without sticking your hands in there!! Great design there!!

You need a thumb on the backhoe! I always tell my wife, you have to use your tools, they make it sooo much easier to work!

I know! Trying to decide on the stationary one or try and go for the hydraulic thumb. There's a company in Michigan I think that does a hydraulic for the Kioti.

This is for much more advanced operators: leave the bucket as if you were back draging lift front tires off the ground, lift rear tires off the ground with the stabilizers while digging, to move put tractor into neutral and row it with the hoe, depending on your machines power left to right is also possible. be very careful with the left to right function on the boom its quick on most small hoes and can really move the machine. also wear safety glasses while digging in rock, I had part of a bucket tooth hit me in the face cutting my face.

Good advice! You're right on the controls being quick. Everything is much quicker on this then a typical excavator, which is why I'm running at lower RPM's until I get more used to them.

@@Curtis1824 have you tried this suggestion yet? With the hydraulic power has I would assume it could move itself easily with the hoe just like a backhoe could. It definitely saves time vs on and off the hoe and in the cab to shift a foot or two lol

@@2010mannw Haven't tried it yet. Most of my moving after this video has been needing to move more of a distance. Where I could have done it I was on a slope and played it safe.

I would really like to see a video on how you start using the backhoe from the inside of the cab. Where you keep your RPM’s at and what other levers you used to get this to operate. I cannot figure out how to use my husband’s backhoe, and he won’t show me. Please help!

Is it possible to switch the hydraulic controls between John Deere or Cat controls? Or as some people might say backhoe or excavator controls. Where the boom and stick are on opposite sides?

I think I’ve seen a video or two of people switching them. I haven’t had time to look into it too much. Would definitely make things easier!

Whats the price on a backhoe attachment for this tractor.. My buddy called to get a quote for backhoe attachment on his L2501 and they wanted like 12k.

When I got mine it was an extra $8,500 I believe. Inflation for ya.
