Oh my god! I am still shocked that they closed this masterpiece production! I honestly thought it would go on forever and ever! Thanks for posting this!
But I was so p*ssed.. Saw it 4 times. As often happens, half the audience decide they want to make it out the doors before the EXIT music was finished. I wanted to SAVOR the great music as my ticket includes that music, and I was literally causing a traffic jam and even got lectured by a snooty lady who didn't appreciate having to go around me as I stood by my seat. JEEZ... it's called a musical... the EXIT music is the DESSERT I paid for and it is not like the ORCHESTRA isn't part of a Sondheim musical or that wasn't a historical movement.
So upset this closed. Why?? It won very high profile Tonys less than two months ago. Is it not selling well? This sucks. My favorite musical of all time. With all the garbage on broadway, this seems very unfair.
A lot of it has to do with ticket sales, sadly, as Company averaged ~70% capacity in sales, which isn’t ideal for a sustainable profit. Compared to shows like A Strange Loop with close to 100% capacity in sales. Don’t get me wrong, Company more than deserved full house sales, but simply not enough people took the time to see it. The people who did, however, got treated to one of the most masterfully crafted revivals in recent years, including myself. I saw it in May, and will forever cherish this particular production as my first Broadway show, and favorite by far.
