In this video I do a comparison between three Slash based SCT truck. The frist is a stock 2wd Slash HCG. It does well for a beginner on a budget that wants an SCT for home and occasional carpet. I do not run this truck with pin tires as it would just roll over all day long. The second SCT is a Slash 2wd with an LCG chassis. This does well for the same individual getting into the hobby. The final truck is my ProLine ProTrac build. This is the best and does really well with pin tires after I running it with stock Slash tires.

I’m on my 2nd 2wd slash…but not used for racing…just bashing etc…but it is my first ‘hobby grade’ rc and the car (truck?) that got me back into the hobby after +35yrs lol….you’re right about the aftermarket/spares ….Arrma may be stronger because they’ve ironed out all the weak points of the Slash….but..damn the Slash can be made into anything - bashers, Monster Trucks, +150mph speed run beasts, crawlers ….this is the only make/chassis that I’ve seen that crosses rc genres…..all the other brands, don’t have nearly as much spares/aftermarket parts for one single model…..as for it jumping well…I remember reading when researching what RC to get, the Traxxas Slash stock bodyshell was purposely designed to ‘scoop’ the air and creat a parachuting effect…the idea being to recreate how real SCTs/Baja trucks ‘hang’ in the air …that’s why the fenders have such an exaggerated scoop…the irony is that, this body design, is one of the reasons it’s not as good on track….the parachuting effect creates a lot of drag….but still…I love it, and I would always recommend it.

I really like and appreciate your comment. And you are completely right about the versatility of the Slash. I really hope more people read your comment. I remember doing so many things with a Slash... monster slash, monster drag slash, drag car, dessert racer... even the nitro Slash (turned that into a "muscle car"). Fun times.

Would you reccomend the proline protrac setup? I can’t find anything saying what it’s meant to do 😅 would it be a good idea for a drag setup or a drift setup?
@telecomandorc
@telecomandorc Год назад
Each arm is 1cm longer so you need shallow offset wheels (they come in the kit. But the arms are way to long for drag. For drag you want shorter axles to handle the stress and power like the bandit arms. The PL may work for drifting though.

Is Traxxas slash class popular at Norcal? I'm considering getting a Slash and doing similar upgrades to run Slash or short course truck.
@telecomandorc
@telecomandorc Год назад
It is run and popularity varies (2wd buggy is most popular). But I would just get an sct kit and run mod if you prefer a truck. To make the Slash competitive it takes a lot of money for a Slash. I will round numbers for simplicity: Box Stock Slash $200 GTR shocks/springs $100 TRX Rally tires $40 Slash off-set Wheels $10 LCG $40 So almost $400 and just over if you get the front sway bar... and it will never be competitive in sct mod. An SCT6.2 fully dressed will be about 2100g. A Slash fully dressed will be closer to 2400g. If you really want a Slash, consider building this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iKUqx3rVwco.html

i dont feel i need to be negative but the driver is all over the place so its hard to know it its driver error or the car is handling bad. tho im driving on furf track i seem to get alot better handling then this. my setup is LCG and tekno rear hubs and driveshafts, and as low as posible around front servo and back of both sides of battery is 40g weight added to keep the CG of the car as low as posible and prevent roll overs. also as i foud out more weight maks the suspenssion work more efficient.

I had it special ordered from NorCal Hobbies. They do do orders over the phone and ship stuff over. But Amain Hobbies has it too. I was thinking of buying this kit for my Slash. My plan so far is to keep brushed until it dies and stick to as many stock parts as I can. Currently I have LCG chassis, different shock oil and springs, tires, and sway bars. Currently does very well on carpet with no traction rolls but how would this affect its performance do you think?
@telecomandorc
@telecomandorc 2 года назад
Stock shocks and springs will work. You just run the risk of damaging them in jumps after a while. If you are interested in Brushed Slash 2wd performance, please see the videos bellow. I think that will give you an idea of what you can do. Plus, I am using the stock arms, links, towers, basics... The first two videos are my progression and current tune. The last two videos are about how to get more power out of the stock motor and my test. Please, ask me any questions you may still have. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iKUqx3rVwco.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O_Be4PeV3oQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-18gPc5jnm0A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-il4WF265nL4.html

@@telecomandorc I’m hard stuck on keeping the truck at least 90% genuine Traxxas parts and upgrades. Only two things that aren’t Traxxas are tires and Hot Racing sway bars. My question would be if that the sway bars would fit and work on the ProTrac system and make a big enough of a difference to go against what my plan was with the truck?
@telecomandorc
@telecomandorc 2 года назад
@@Please_Why My response will be a bit long... but let me start with this... the truck in the video links I sent you previously is 99% Traxxas parts. Only the sway bars and battery strap are non Traxxas. The shocks are Traxxas GTR shocks and so are the springs. The tires are Traxxas Rally tires. The gearbox is a Traxxas 272R. The chassis is off of a Nitro Slash. All else is Slash 2wd stuff. Do the sway bars fit the ProTrac? Yes. With stock electronics is the ProTrac worth getting? For durability, yes... for performance on a 1/10 scale track, no. The ProTrac components are heavier. Rear stock arms are 35g and ProTrac rear arms are 39g. The ProTrac with current layouts makes it just heavy enough to just barely not make some jumps. I do not use the ProTrac for spec Slash for these reasons. And I do not use it for 2wd SCT Mod class because my SC6.2 is far lighter and better on a 1/10 scale track. The ProTrac kit is more for a high power application where durability is important, or and 1/8 track setting. Hard to beat in this environment. The SC6.2 is just not durable enough for such high power or bashing as the ProTrac. And the ProTrac really shines over stock where more speed and space is available. Did I address your questions? If I missed the point, just ask again.

@@telecomandorc Thank you so much for the detailed response! I was also just wondering because my local track is switching to clay within this year (not looking forward to cleaning the truck every run) and I just was wondering the overall affect of it. I will be getting a Team Associated SCPro4 truck for more of the track focused application but just wanted to prove that Traxxas can be competitive. So far it’s worked really well and just wanted to keep up on possible upgrades and see how drastically they affect the truck. Thank you again! Also I have washed the motor in the Slash, as it was from a 5 year old Rustler I had a long time back, and the thing rips. I love it and people keep asking if it’s really brushed lol Not going brushless until I have to!

@@Please_Why 👏🤝 The "Ultimate LCG Slash" I built was in a way to show that driving skill is more important than speed. I completely understand. Now, if you already bought the Pro4... well, enjoy it. But if you have not, consider the Losi Tenacity TT Pro. If it is in your budget... Tekno SCT410.3 is the way to go. The Associated Pro4 is great for rough terrain and bashing. But it is HCG. For bashing it is my choice for price point. For racing, you are better off with a 2wd SC6.2. The Tenacity TT Pro is an aluminum LCG truck, and the Tekno is just the most durable and tunable truck. The shocks are massive. SCT410.3 is the best 4wd SCT I have ever had. If you can, watch my race 5 of End of Year Series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vj1JpU-tBiw.html I was beat by one Pro4... because I screwed up big in the beginning. @telecomandorc
@telecomandorc Год назад
Many tracks will have information about events for certain race classes like RCFIA which is race in multiple tracks. Other times word of mouth once you find one. Another way is to google rc shops. This is not the easiest as a lot of information is irrelevant or online shops. But sometimes one will come up, and you can go from there. What area are you looking for a Track?
