Here in Korea, we have a plethora of 3rd party charging available, and the one in my apartment complex is one of the cheapest around. it costs 5 cents to charge 1 kw, compared to around 22~29 cents from the supercharger. Slow charging is also good for battery longevity.
So he filled the gas tank with only 8 gallons for $45.71 (8.79 x 5.2 = 45.71). and traveled 500 miles with 8 gallons? haha cap. Rx tank capacity is 19.2 gallons. True numbers are: $91 for the RX, $45 for the tesla
We just did a 608 mile round trip in our model Y. Left home fully charged, 10ish minute charge about half way to our destination while we grabbed a quick bite for lunch. Drove to our destination and charged for free using their destination charger. Drove around a lot while we were there and just charged for free again when we got back to the motel. Stopped again on our way home to charge while we had lunch and the car was ready to go before we were. Made it home and fully charged again. Total of $17.48 for superchargering, free charging at our hotel, and a full charge back at home for $3.20. Total cost $20.68 for a 608 mile round trip plus 75-100ish miles while at our destination. Just stay at a motel that offers free charging. Our Tesla make driving fun again.
For longer trips gas cars are better; rent one if you need to I say. However, for around town and everyday driving, commuting, EVs are way more cost effective and for most, you charge overnight at home at even lower rates and avoid having to even stop at a gas station ever. If you have solar it's even a greater difference.
Keep in mind, with an EV you have multiple options to never pay for charges, which you won't get for gas. For example; A solar setup, charging credits, and free charging areas. You can also save money by charging from home.
How much was each vehicle price when purchased. How much is insurance monthly. What's kind of maintenance is required for mmmm let's say 3000k miles. How many people and luggage were in the vehicle. How heavy is each vehicle.
It would be more than $45 for the gas. My little Camry has only a 13 gallon tank and when the prices were 520 I was spending about $60-$80 to fill up which only gave me about 300 miles so on a 500 mile road trip. I need to stop and get gas at least once or twice for another $45 or $50 total gas is like 150 and the Tesla being at $45 understandable
I am a Tesla owner in California, but you must be in Texas because it costs a lot more to super charge, takes more time and I want to be more green but it takes 2 hours longer to get to LA and there need to be cleaner charging stations.
I wish I understood everything you wrote. But I only charge at stations when on a trip. When I last went to Vegas and charged at Stateline, I think it was around $20. I below 20% and charged to 90%. Took around 35 minutes. Different charging stations have different prices. And no, it doesn't take a lot longer than it took Chris. You must've went to a non Tesla charging station. What few stations I've been to have been clean. I'm not sure what you do there, but clean enough for most of us! LOL!
The same money to start , buying tesla MY or buying lexus hybrid. I would buy lexus hybrid. Because I don't have home charging, and I learned one thing, Tesla service is SUCKED.
Problem with the Tesla is that you end up shopping or eating while you are waiting for it to charge up. So you actually spend more money in a Tesla while supercharging. Hands down my 2021 Prius Prime is a better buy and saves more money. Only know this because I own a model 3 also.
We own a Tesla and Prius as well. I'll admit the Prius is very economical to drive. Probably extremely close to the Tesla in that sense. That's where the comparison ends, Tesla is far superior in every other aspect. So why not take the Tesla?
Tesla requires charging even on a 400 mile round trip. I am not a big fan of sitting around and waiting for it to charge. I also have free supercharging and I don't use it because it greatly affects the battery's life. I home charge with the Tesla wall charger . I only use it around town and trips under 200 mile trips. It is a hoot to drive and a very fun car to drive for sure.@@kickeramps
@@brucewayne2773 we only use supercharging on road trips as well. Wall charger is definitely our main charger. We're on a "time of use" electricity plan so we charge ours at night for $0.07388 per kw. It has a 50 mile round trip a day for work. Only costs about $1.75 a day for the commute each day. I'll probably end up buying a cyber truck once the AWD one gets a little more affordable and they work out any bugs that come up with the first year models.
3 times a year i make the 831 mile trip from Lancaster Pennsylvania to Jacksonville Florida. My jaguar XJl gives me a range of 515 miles and takes 3.5 minutes to fully fuel, make that 7 minutes including grabbing a coffee. No matter how many times i stop for what ever reason, i only have to stop once to fuel. I reach my destination in 11.5 hours traveling through the night when everyone is home and out of my way. My cousin and i just mad the trip a week ago in his Tesla model Y which is a so called, ( long range) EV. We stopped 4 times to charge at 30 minutes each time. 30 fkin minutes!!! took us 14 damn hour to reach our destination. Never Again!!!! dont get me wrong, EVs are great! they just need to improve them. charging from 0 to 100 percent in 7 minutes or less and a range of 500 miles. Do this, now we're talkin! Im waiting for the next generation EV with the hopes that these fine qualities and improvements have been applied, then I'll be more than happy to buy one immediately!!!
Take the Tesla for sure. No oil changes, transmission oil change, my muffler from being stolen. When I stop for gas on a trip I also use the bathroom and get food which is longer than 3 minutes. Petroleum cars will never go away but I enjoy the new Tech and the Tesla Auto Pilot on long trips why to much. To each his own but don’t knock it unless you’ve owned one. Already OLD and LAME comparing the two.
Honestly will take Lexus RX instead, ev battery will degrad much faster if you super charge a lot; if you ever go somewhere cold or has elevation, it will have a significant impact on the ev range. Pretty much all of the new ICE cars nowadays have advanced ACC, it basically is the basic auto-pilot on Tesla.
This doesn’t take into consideration so many things. Some people might have a full charge on their Tesla from charging for cheap at home prior to leaving on the trip. Also, depending if you drive a Hyundai Elantra at 40 mpg or a ford f150 around 18 mpg, it differs a ton! Also, depends what time of day you travel, and what state gas or electric prices are at. I’m pretty sure if you play your cards right, electric would be cheaper than gas in many cases. My work and apartment let me charge my Tesla for free, so you can’t really beat that either
Bought a model Y LR on the last day of 2023. I still think that EV make sense when you 1) charge at home overnight and 2) drive around town and 3) You have an ICE engine 2nd car.
What about your time in a station waiting while charging, how much is that worth? I guess Tesla owners, their time is free. Fact: Tesla maybe a fast car but slow gas car that gets 40 mpg can beat any Tesla to race from NJ to FL, go figure why.
We own homes with level 2 chargers paying somewhere between 5c-15c per KW. I waste more of my free time filling up my ICE vehicle than charging my model Y. Can't pump gas while asleep. Can charge while asleep.
@@bn9161 I can sleep anytime I want, doesn’t have to be while charging 🤣. Convince yourself once you buy your second EV car. Statics shows no repeat buyers, own an EV once was enough and never again.
@@BenbenDesalapen All good. Enjoy your gas stations. I'll enjoy my lack of ever having to go anywhere to fuel up and my less than 5cents per mile fuel cost.
@@BenbenDesalapen No ICE vehicle in my household for years. Have owned a Ford Focus Electric for a few years and a proud owner of a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV. I guess I didn't get the memo. SO happy I didn't!
prob for the 1-3% of the time you're actually doing a road trip. the other 97-99% of the time EVs are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more convenient cause you never need to plan a detour to get gas. Or having to service any of the other numerous components of the car.
It's all according to many factors like where, when, who, and what An experienced and skillful charging network navigator will usually get the EV cost lower than gas
I call BS on the time to charge and cost all a LIE. A 6 hour run I make routinely only needs a 23 minute charge and just $17 to Super Charge. Model Y LR
i would charge 100 percent before i leave for 0.25 cents per kwh for a grand total of 16 dollars. then plan my charge for cheaper chargers. but worst case scenario another full charge at tesla supercharger for 28$ for 60kw. and not worry about change oil and other routine maintenance for the next 50k miles.
Doesn’t matter every 200 miles just go pee or eat something or explore something take ur car out to see something let him pre in his litter box all that do while u charge up for $10-15
@@THEGOGETTERSINVEST bro, I don’t spend $100 on gas, that’s something the media tells you, but us gas drivers don’t really spend as much as EV drivers would think, especially if it’s the type of gas car you’re driving, I drive a Nissan which is quite fuel efficient, I put in about 24 dollars worth of gas, and it’s half a tank of gas, which will end up lasting me quite a while
Lol this is assuming that the person owning the EV is gonna be doing road trips every day which is far from reality. Plugging in at home, I spend about 25 bucks a month vs $600 a month I was spending on gas. Not even close!!
@@richardrolson2713 It depends what time you charge at, usually 12pm to 10pm is the most expensive time to charge around $0.43 per kWh but if you charge anytime outside those hours in my area it’s about $0.17 so typically if I charge from 12pm to 10pm it’s around $20 to fill my Model Y but if you charge before or after the time it’s about half $7-$10 or so but it depends on the area
Model y and that RX cost the same… approx 52000. As for fuel, RX will use more than double than what this clip is trying to falsely represent. 500 miles at 23 avg range mpg is 21 gallons. California rate w Super Unleaded for RX is $126. No comparison. EV all the way.
