One of the most detailed videos I have seen on the subject. I always get a lot of questions on what works best and what people should purchase. I always tell everyone if you're not carrying it. The S2 is definitely what I would pick up. There are so many options in less lethal nowadays and it continues to grow since the market continues to demand it. Going to be a very interesting next couple of years as we see what hits the market. I tell everyone who asked that there are lots of us out here discussing these alternatives and it's best to watch everyone and pick your own weapon that will work for you. Here's hoping they find this video since these are the three that seem to be advertised and promoted on most of the channels. Great video. Well thought out and very well presented. Keep it up.

Thanks again for all your support here! I agree I think the next few years should bring some interesting launchers. Hopefully they will start thinking about more compact sizes!

This video should help many of the potential buyers out there make an informed decision. Thanks for sharing with us. I do have some thoughts to add to the discussion. I personally will not buy another "big bulky" launcher. There are many bulky options that have good power but they just aren't for EDC. To me the Salt Supply S2 is too big also but I love the consistency. My TCP has mostly be relegated to the car or an off-body carry bag for select situations because of the size. Less Lethal pistols will continue to be an enigma. Small and compact is essential and the Byrna SD seems to fit the bill in almost every way but the desired power. I think at some point everyone is going to start to realize that we've already reached the max power per inch and learn to live with that. RU-vidrs will continue to tease "gains" but it's really only tiny fraction increases at this point without elaborate HPA tanks, big CO2 carts, or carbine builds which are irrelevant for EDC.

You are right on 100%! There is not much more that can be done with 12 grams of C02 and the industry is going bigger to make up the power, to me it is going in the wrong direction. I would like to see HPA reserve incorporated in a compact launcher to add power and temperature consistency.

@@ScaredyCatTactical Byrna is supposed to be introducing the CP at ShotShow 2025, their take on compact carry. Hopefully it'll be a good launcher as they know they have serious competition in the market now. It was scheduled for ShotShow 2024, but they pushed it back to 2025 launch last we heard.

Certainly one of the best, if not the best comparison videos on those three launchers. The Byrna's are good for target practice with so many shots per co2 .. but that is all. The S2 is better than nothing. Large and bulky is in the eye of the carrier. I carry my Gavle in a "belly Ban" holster and it fits snug and unobtrusively. I can carry it all day without discomfort. I have found no "Hard - belt attached holster that I can carry all day. Belly Ban setups allow you to tighten them like a ladies coreset such that you can carry something as large as a Gavle under a regular loose fitting tee shirt. I think it is the "angle" in which the belly ban holsters seat the launcher that makes them work so well, along with their wide soft material makeup. Thanks for the testing and video.

A very good overview of these products and the good and bad points of each. I love my Byrna Hi Viz and its reliable. I also love the 50 Joule HDX I have for home defense. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Lancer Tactical Higos when it comes out next month (last we heard). It's a 35 Joule .68 launcher that will be under two hundred. If it lives up to the claims, it'll give the Gavle a run for its money at less than half the cost. Where all of these really shine is when you mix in the chemical rounds with your kinetic rounds. Honestly it doesn't matter what you get on the second and third magazine as in most all cases, its the first magazine that will get you out of the situation and to safety. If you have to reload, you're probably screwed at that point LoL.

The Hi Vis/SD are the best launchers in my opinion and the HDX is a bad ass and it probably won’t be necessary to actually shoot it, just point it in their direction, you know what they say-if looks could kill 😂

Thank you for your videos. I have been debating which one of these to choose. Everyone is different but for me priorities are #1 Dependability, #2 Consistency, #3 Effectiveness. Also for me concealability. For brute power, it looks like the S2 is king. However, for a short round bellied guy, of the 3, the S2 is too large. For concealability the LE and the SD are close with the SD having a bit of an advantage. Between the LE and the SD - I really like the LE's sights, but had the idea of painting the sights of and SD for low light situations was reinforced by your video. While the SD has the least power in joules, research seems to show the average distance a firearm is used in self-defense is about 3 to 7 yards and I'm hoping that within that distance the SD (first round a kinetic) can provide sufficient inspiration to deter an assailant. If not the second round (Byrna Max) will help the assailant to weep over their decision to attack. After that, to avoid crying myself as the range between the assailant and myself may be reduced, the 3rd to 5th rounds will be kinetic. Hopefully 3,4, and 5 will supply sufficient owees to deter any further aggression. If multiple assailants need to be addressed the ability to swiftly load a second magazine seems to very important. To a poor (financially) guy like me the least amount to invest for resource to effectively bring about my goals/desired results, while being dependable and consistent have lead me decide on the SD. Thank you again for your videos.

You’re making a wise choice! There is no sense ordering a launcher with more power if you’re not going to carry it because your outfit won’t conceal properly. I carry my SD all the time it just fits better and I know it goes bang 100% of the time. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

The Gavle is on my list and certainly has plenty of power! My only concern is in extreme emergency trying to twist the c02, no matter how much power you have if you don’t have both hands free it can be problematic! There is another heavy hitter to be released on 10/15 and hopefully since it is paid for I will be one of the first to receive and it is called pistelle x-68 with a claim of between 35-50 joules on a 12 gram c02, it has the puncture knob on bottom of handle.

@@airgunnerreviews7888 Thank you for the reply. I will definitely keep my eyes open for that one. Quick less-lethal protection is is needed. To be honest it was your Gavle review that guided me to purchase a Gavle and I love it. I originally purchased a Byrna because of the all the reviews and videos on it, some of which are misleading, I found out. Even if you search for less-lethal, Byrna tends to stand out. I personally will stick by the Gavle until it let's me down. I did have an internal CO2 leaking issue, that I resolved by opening the Gavle and tightening a part with a Phillips head screwdriver. I don't know what it's called but, it fixed the problem.

Which one would you order for self defense on a boat. We are sailing to Caribbean where we cannot bring firearms, so need something if boarded at night. We leave in 4 weeks, so worry about reliability of all these launchers , will have to really get it in time before leaving and test .. hate to have already set sail to find out its defective.

The Salt S2 is a solid beast and a quick ship, however not easy to conceal carry do to size. The Byrna LE has good power and pierce and shoot technology but based on my experience it has been unreliable but your experience may be different. The SD is reliable but the weakest of all 3. The Grimburg Gavle is both concealable and super powerful but not sure if you would get it in time, you also need both hand free to twist the C02 so you need to see the threat coming! There is no perfect solution unfortunately.

10 joules probably won't do much with clothes on, more like 20 joules and up are better chances especially to face if against a zombie, crazy, superhuman, even 9mm won t stop some ppl right away unless its a head shot, having a firearm is better but still doesn't garrentee u win a gun fight, u can aim face shots better with less lethal also, the best thing is to stay outta harms way because u can still lose even with firearm especially if not knowing how to aim good, I would never brag about having a firearm because it can get tooking as soon as its used buy law, and going to trial, etc.
@Joreel
@Joreel Месяц назад
That is very true which is why no one recommends using a less lethal against a firearm. The good news is that firearms are used in less than 5% of assaults or crimes according to both FBI and Nation crime statistics collected by police department across the nation. Knives and blunt force weapons are the most common and less lethal weapons can be very effective in those situations. As someone who has experienced both tear gas and pepper spray during my time in the military, I can attest to the effects of these chemicals, especially when combined. I've also been shot by a Byrna SD in the ribs (My fault as it was an accident) and I can tell you they hurt like hell, so two or three hits will drop most people. If you mix the rounds, they are even more effective.

@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 24 дня назад
The Grimburg has much more power and easier to conceal but takes two hands to twist the C02 and the air cartridges are harder to get and much more expensive. The S2 is heavy and around 8-1/2 long so harder to conceal and significantly less power than the Gavle. I guess you have to pick your poison!

I really hope people use as much sense as possible, when relying on such a product. This product is absolutely no where near the reliability it should have. People should get a firearm if you need to defend yourself. If your not allowed to have a firearm, not my problem, that’s your problem, you obviously did something to achieve that. People need to understand though, if you fire this at someone with a firearm, your gonna get someone throwing lead back at you. This is the worst product ever and people who are claiming it is great are insane. You will only piss someone off, really bad. It may deter some people, but the rest of us are throwing lead back at you. This is the worst idea ever made for self protection. I just can’t keep watching these videos and not express sincere concern for people thinking they are safe, with this product. I guarantee your not, at all.

Thanks for being an armchair cowboy. You do understand that 95+ percent of encounters don't require lethal force according to law enforcement crime statistics. But go ahead and use your lead throwers and we'll send gifts to you in your 10x12 cell, and if you're really lucky you won't get an amorous roommate that likes your looks. You obviously don't understand the point of these less lethal products. Take it from a combat vet who's seen more gun violence than anyone needs to see, your mindset will only get you killed or in prison.
