In your opinion is the Orient saturation diver better than the Seiko MM?

It is not better. I have both watches. Both are great. The Orient is far bigger longer and thicker, has far inferior movement and finishing. Both have exactly the same clasp. The Marinemaster is a considerably superior watch all round and it should be as it is nearly three times the price. 4 years late is better than never!

maitrehg my sumo/blumo grew on me once I changed that awful bracelet for a Crafter Blue baby rubber strap. That made it an awesome everyday beater watch for £400 but eventually I just bought the mm300 and I love it. I was tempted by the cw tp600 too though

It's all about price. To get to similar quality you have to spend grand seiko money. Perhaps a business decision on seikos part to not compete with grand seiko

Strapcode makes some great bracelets for Seikos imo worth the upgrade.

AjaxForever That version of the PO was less expensive. It was probably $3400 new in 2007-2010.

TrailMonkey My 5 year old skx007j has a flawless crystal and I beat the hell out of that thing. Also I have a Sector 950 titanium diver with a ding on the sapphire. Sometimes I think it is just luck.

yea I scratched up sumo hardlex too but now I have Sapphire and Ceramic on my Sumo worth the upgrade looks way better

I scratched my blumo hardlex within a week- well my two year daughter did when she dropped it face down on the floor but my mm300 has been fine. I think it’s a different/better hardlex in the mm300 than cheaper seikos anyway. I think Seiko doesn’t use sapphire on the marinemaster as if they did it would harm sales on their Grand Seiko divers. Same with the bracelet. A few little upgrades would be easy but they purposely position watches at all levels. The Sarb035/33 already made me question some of my high end Swiss brands

The watch was made for saturation diving, not as a luxury watch.

William Vinge I doubt any saturation divers who are not watch geeks/watch lovers wear mechanical watches. Digital watches and dive computers make more sense than hardlex or sapphire crystal on a watch costing thousands of dollars or pounds. All these watches are luxury items but previously the marinemaster would have been aimed at Seiko enthusiasts, who would be buying into the heritage of Seiko divers and what the watch is based on as it’s essentially a reproduction/homage to an earlier diver. I think Seiko are rethinking their marketing/targeting of consumers and will relaunch the watch to be more competitive to other luxury brands as they focus more on the West. The sbdx017 has recently been discontinued and I would suppose an updated version will hit the stores soon with improvements made.

If you can wait for the SPB077/79, it's a modern reinterpretation of the 6159/MM300. It's around $1000.

The times are changing man. Seiko has a bunch of top tier models in Japan that you're likely to find on the wrists of Westerners now, and they're just as good as the Swiss "brands" that people have traditionally given a lot of status to.

Yeah I know but over the years Seiko is known for cheaper watches. It would be a long and difficult road ahead for them to change it. I'm a one watch person and I have my Seiko 5 for 4 years now. My mom has a seiko 5 for 15 years

The deep-sea gives off more glare because the sapphire is considerably thicker than the others hence the depth rating which is much higher than the others. It's a heavy watch and certainly not for everyone, but if you saw and felt one in person next to those Seikos, you'd see immediately that the others feel like tin made toys compared to the Rolex. The steel is 904L and holds a polish better than any other watch I've owned even after years of heavy use.

this is not true. glare only occurs as the light is reflected off the surface. once light breaks a crystal/glass surface it does not bounce off and shines through the material, (until it hits the surface on the other side. Hence why an AR on surface makes so much difference. Why would you come up with theories to defend rolex? your theory is completely wrong.

OnlineBackupServices because For the same reason you bashed the rolex, I have an opinion and I've owned both watches in question and only someone with an obvious grudge against rolex, for whatever reason, would make the argument that a Seiko makes a better watch. The Deepsea is known for the glare issue and for the reason I stated. Believe what you wish, but a simple look through rolex forums or even the Deepsea Facebook group will verify what I'm saying.

The crystal on the deepsea isn't etched, you mention issues with the omega yourself. The bracelet on the Omega is defo either 10 years old...or fake. The links are loose! Your friend either lied to you or doesn't know better.

I do not wish to get in to an argument on here, nor be so classless to call someone stupid.....but....... You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I was with my friend when he purchased both of these watches from a VERY prestigious AD, and the Rolex in the video had just returned from Rolex after a full service and still has the protective plastic on. Also I really do not care what people think to be honest. I know what I know and you think you know what you think. I wish you all the best but you are 100% wrong in this case.

I do not need luck. My friend doesn't either. He is quite wealthy and very happy..... he couldn't give a shit and uses the DSSD as a beater.
