This is an excellent presentation. We have the concept of totality of symptoms in homeopathy. There is some equivalence in the fine balance of three doshas in each individual as envisaged by ayurveda and the totality of symptoms as envisaged by homeopathy. Swami Ramdev has done a great service to humanity by simplifying breathing techniques and taking them to common people. The set of pranayams suggested by Swami Ramdev are fairly good. Though here the lady talks about individualizing pranayam.

Actually i have been reading books on ayurveda since a while and i am pretty interested in that, but what i loved much about this lecture is the way in which it is performed, not boring at all from the first word till the last one. Hence i deduce the performer's dominant dosha is vatta on addition to the nail specificity: thin, long and look fragile, but alaso a large part of kapha dosha as the hair and skin are oily, the violet dress and often putting hand and the cheeck when she becomes conscious of a point of the talk.

@kornigator True - I got really interested in Ayurveda after watching a movie about it and some clips on youtube. However, when I got a book on Ayurveda - I got slightly overwhelmed. I felt it was difficult, and put the book aside. Just couldn't use it as I wanted to. Now, after wathcing this beautiful and intelligent women, I got it. I started reading the book, and I'm making ayurveda apart of my life!

great lecture and informative however as an MD it is surprising that she did not also mention the epistemic problems with Ayurvedic medicine. Appeal to ancient wisdom and anecdote mostly lead to false positive results - that is why we don't do blood letting anymore.

1. I am surprised by threadysparrow's thready comment. Bernard Osher has granted several universities funding to start Osher centers for better understanding the healing that should underlie the science of medicine. And just because it doesn't have a wiki entry, why does that mean it can't exist...?

2. Ayurveda is sometimes translated in different ways because the Sanskrit doesn't translate to english directly. 'Is that vague bull**it?' Go take a class in linguistics. 3. Postmodern physics, physical chemistry and astrophysics all talk about binding energy.

Exactly, it's 5000 years old. We knew far less about biology 5000 years ago, so saying it is old doesn't give it more credibility. We need to put "wooo" aside and accept evidence based medicine, not medicine based on tradition.

Dude, DUDE, hinduism is completely different from organized religions. It is based on a few principals, but the traditions that go along with hinduism can vary deeply, because it's a really open "religion". Mostly, it's just a philosophy, a collection of stories and principals, etc. A skeptical "religion", a thinking "religion". /watch?v=Ugyrzr5Ds8o Carl Sagan discusses hindu cosmology.

The Vedas are beyond modern human intelligence. Written in Sanskrit, a language more perfect than any other, the Vedas contain knowledge for every sphere of human life and they're all connected, complimentary and interdependent. As TheVedicStudent mentions, Ayurveda's ultimate purpose is serving and realizing God, Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
