Brilliant example !!! It's just that to make it complete, we can add: " ... it's just like you can't knit with only yarn and no needles", following the example of "with only needles and no yarn." :)

This apology of knitting isn't really the case though because if the mutations are in the same gene it means there are no functional copies in the offspring whereas if the mutations are in different genes there is one functional version still for each gene in the offspring. Its more like one of you having both needle and yarn and the other having nothing (complementation) or you both having nothing (non-complementation)
