Welcome to the complete melee guide for combat on foot for Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord! This guide will cover ALL topics regarding fighting with melee weapons on foot. I have separated the guide into two parts: Beginner and Advanced. All sections include details on how I personally trained each skill when I was a newbie!
By the end of the beginner's section you should have an understanding of how all the basic mechanics work in Bannerlord and be able to win 90% of melee combat engagements. If you can master blocking, you WILL dominate your game.
If you want that extra 10% Chad skill set, then the advanced section is for you. From stun combos to chamber blocking, you will learn all of the coolest moves that will make you the John Wick of Calradia!

Thank you for watching! I know what you mean, it's pretty frustrating to see "guides" that are drawn out with bloat and irrelevant info or unedited stuff (in particular, loading screens trigger me in an edited video hahaha). I appreciate the support and I'm glad the video was helpful!

Spear bracing - toggle walking before you brace and you’ll gain the ability to slowly walk around while bracing. Much more effective than the static spear brace.
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
I saw a video like that today on the forums! That's crazy, I didn't know what was a thing. I loved the way the brace just comes down and instantly bonks the cav lol I wish I saw that before I released this one. That guy deserves some big credit besides the like I gave on the video :D
@Dalziel45
@Dalziel45 7 месяцев назад
what does that mean?
@azathoth420
@azathoth420 6 месяцев назад
On PC you can toggle walk so that you remain at a walking speed instead of building up more speed, and if you spear brace and set yourself to walk then you can move and remain braced. Spear bracing lets you hold the spear so that it counters cavalry charging, although on some terrain it doesnt work that well.@@Dalziel45

@@Dalziel45 you can toggle a walk with Caps lock instead of running. I’ve used it for immersion early on while walking in cities, I didn’t know there was a tactical usage.

@@Strat-Guides I've made it too small kingdom. Made policies without nobles. Elected senate/council and now 3 nobiles with castles and 2 villages each. Before than I used agricultural estates too earn me a living. Between my garrisons and party patrols I spend 5k and make about 8k. I'm developing unused land plus patrols too increase my bank roll by two or three times. Horses get the most revenue. Invested in khuzait workshops, silver, iron, wood, velvet, brewery etc.gives me great revenue and armour and weapons plus cheap horses and food. The estates give me better trained khuzait horsemen too from villages with horses.

@@Strat-Guides Also bought forest Mercs allegiance into my kingdom. At around 2000 troops most are all tier 4, 5, 6 armoured archery cavalrymen and Knights plus high tier footmen and recruits too push my siege engines. I can now assign seirgents and delegate command as of 1.70 so that's pretty dope plus the 75% speed reduction delegating commands. Games defo getting where we all wanted it. I have no idea how I haven't found this video before. This is exactly what I needed, no BS, no sugarcoating, no cheese. everything is straightforward. throughout the video you made it look so easy that it was kind of disheartening, I'm glad you put in the small montage of all the deaths you had while trying to make the video. The things I have learned in this video that I didn't already: 1. You can ready your attack and still kick! 2. what weapon handling actually does 3. You can pommel/weapon bash 4. Walk Couching 5. Two handed axes have crush through and strikethrough 6. Weapon Dragging. some people may not have noticed it in the video, but I did. in several clips you dragged the swing so your weapon would hit faster, but you kept it in the max damage window of the swing. my only question is does the added speed of your movement increase the damage too, or only just make it harder to block? 7. Feints actually exist and work 8. Chain attacks 9. Chambering is real??!

the content is well chosen, planned, and presented. these are better than my current certification training videos...truly well done dude. a totally personal thing...there is virtually no silence in between the audio bites...at first I found this to give the content a rushed feeling but I'm getting used to it. i just use the left arrow button to go back and repeat when I didn't quite absorb what was said the first time
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
Thank you! Haha nice, hopefully these are more entertaining than the training videos :P If my professor back in my college days spoke at this pace it would have been pretty hard to handle without a recording. The main reason I do it is to keep the info compact and get people on their way quickly. As you stated, rewinding (or even some use the speed adjustor in RU-vid and run at 0.75 playback) seems to be a fair compromise. I sucks to make people do extra work, BUT I think it's even more work sitting through people stumbling about their words, umms and uhhs, watching loading screens etc. haha I try my best to respect everyone's time but still deliver the pertinent info!

I've found the best practice to familiarize yourself with combat in bannerlord was pit fights at the arena, especially before they nerfed the exp gain there. You get to try out pretty much every kind of weapon and in a lot of situations. Free money + character experience + player experience. Also I've found that the best weapon skill is not a weapon skill. You can easily win with a skill of 1 vs an opponent with a skill of 250 if your athletics is high enough. Because if we think about it, being the sole deciding factor for if and when weapons even can reach each other is huge, and can be used to mitigate the slow swing speed of a weapon skill level 1 character. Great video as per usual ^_^
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
I would mostly agree with you about the pit fighting, except if you're trying to train a specific thing like blocking with a weapon but have to have your shield up all the time because the ranged weapons, then it can slow the learning down a lot. It definitely helps learning combat though, I think the pit fights are harder to win than the tournaments! That's a great point - athletics is so important for fighting on foot. Especially if you're good with stun combos and chamber blocking, you don't need fast attack speed to land good hits :) Thank you!!

I need to warn that as far as i figured out chambering relies heavily on initial position of your weapon. So chambering overheads is rather impossible if done with your weapon hand raised yet fairly easy with your weapon hand lowered. One also should remember that timings could be eased with proper footwork and distance. So side chambers are more reliable while sidesteping away from oponents attack. And the easiest way to chamber overheads i found is to perform them from longer distance while getting closer with the enemy. The only reliable way to chamber thrusts that i found is by using spear against spear and again longer distance. Meanwhile thing o be remembered about spears is that they prowide solid ghostreach so any chamberes should be timed little earlier.
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
Interesting, I had not noticed any of this! That's great to know. I was able to chamber from any position, but it does make sense that different stances will give you a better chance to proc since it changes the position of your own weapon. Great info, thank you so much for adding this!!

Very very good ! I was caught in the field by 6 knights, only with a two handed axe; I had to call in the cavalry, couldn't block all the stabs :)) I'm too lazy to feint, but I'll start trying them and maybe the chamber blocks. Right now I was fighting in tournaments and try to keep my companions alive so I can fight 1v1 vs them and just use bashes and blocks, so they level up more.
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
Thank you! Oh nooo that's the worst. It's not hard to block one or two, but when they start stunning you and you can't block, that's when it's all over lol I don't really like feinting against the AI as much. I find that if they fall for a feint, they would just as easily fall for a regular hit lol Actually it's pretty good against higher level opponents now that I think about it. Low levels don't block much anyways so I just swing away :)

I learned a lot in the arenas. Many times you are forced to fight with setups that you didn't choose for your core gameplay. Sometimes in 4 vs 4, sometimes your companions die and you are outnumbered, etc. By dying and reloading I got a lot of experience. Great tips!

Once you learn to parry and chamber consistently it becomes a whole other game. Throw some spins in there for style points and slightly delaying/advancing your hit. One of the few (mostly) single-player games that really feels rewarding to _git gud_ at. The definition of "easy to learn, difficult to master".

Didn't know axes were the only melee that could eliminate multiple people at once. Thought it was capable with any cut weapons. Keep up the good work!
@Strat-Guides
@Strat-Guides 2 года назад
Thank you! That was actually a slight mistake - the 2H maces can also do this! It's a bit harder to generate enough damage to down both in a single swing (horseback with speed it's doable) but you can definitely hit more than one target in a single swing. Also, I can't remember if I said this in the video or not, but you can hit more than 2 with a single swing. I might have said 2, but it's actually more than that if you have massive damage!

@@TripleData27 Yeah for sure! It's called the 1812 Overture by the Russian Composer Tchaikovsky. It's the only composition that (to my knowledge) has actual cannons written into the score lol legit cannons, not something to mimic the sound of cannons :D Here is a good version of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VbxgYlcNxE8.html&ab_channel=avrilfan2213

@Strat-Guides

That's a tough one! Without high polearm skill you're going to struggle to get damage up high enough. I did a bonus section in a video once - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qxfrwbm_N9M.html&ab_channel=StratGaming Check the timestamps - at 9:26 the sections starts. I made a thrust on foot polearm build that sounds like what you're looking for!
