After corrosion, wear and defects were found on the engine of my Piper Arrow at its annual inspection, a top-end overhaul was initiated. This video shows the final stage of the process.
Completing the top-end overhaul on my Piper Turbo Arrow's Continental TSIO-360-FB1.

Fascinating. A great film John and nice to see India Victor back in service. You had a lovely day for it! Many thanks.

Nice update on the engine, thank you! I went through replacing one cylinder on my Ercoupe this past year, not for the feint of heart, but you learn a lot, 'helping' someone experienced with that job.

Gosh your excitement was very infectious John! A great mechanic is as important as a great doctor. From what we saw, they seem like a top notch shop! If you saw Jerry Wagners video on his GTIO engine failure- seems a shop had used the wrong conrod and was too much play at the gudgeon pin! As you say - a job done right, very much worth it

Superb content, so amazing to see the bird nearly back in service!

Highly interesting, even though the mechanics seem nonchalant about it. Every bit of manual work and precision goes to that engine, basically to keep you from crashing. So you're absolutely spot on with this video appreciating it.

Banter has always been part of the aviation tech's norm, any one entering a hangar has to accept they are a nice fresh target. I can tell you took it in the way it is meant. So you are now half way between flying and walking, I think that makes you a fledging reporter.

Very interesting to watch; thanks, Jon. I dropped our Grumman off in Perth in October (my last video shows the flight) and the engine's been sitting, stripped and awaiting inspection (behave!), at Norvic for a couple of months now. They must be busy! We can't wait to have our Bubbles back flying!

Wow…. Just finishing an identical overhaul on my 182… full engine overhaul and the same a new 3 blade prop… however the boys from the prop shop in the USA sent the wrong spinner… so should be here next week….. then finally up, up and away.

Love it thanks -for the education, Jon. Our flying club Saratoga just had a new cylinder put in so nice to see a bit of behind the scenes. Ps the tune strummed should have been “Money” by Pink Floyd 😂😥

Great stuff! What did your mechanics think about the torsional vibration dampeners when going to the 3 blade?

I once had a C182S with a three bladed prop and then had a Diamond DA40 with a two bladed prop. I always like the three blade prop look better. No good reason really, just seemed better. 🙂 Nice to see you almost back in the air.

I was planning a top-end overhaul on my plane’s O-320 but the sparkles in the oil filter said the engine was too far gone. Six months later I pulled up to the hold short line with the shop’s service manager in the right seat...

Looking really good, Jon - especially that shiny new prop! But wow, I wouldn't want to be getting the bill for all that work! Will you be giving some details of costs in a future video?

Well done Jon, good progress on IV and nice video. Having now spent all that money please tell me you're also going to invest in an Engine Data Monitor? Those original manufacturer's CHT, EGT and Oil gauges are legendarily inaccurate, regardless of whether it's Piper, Cessna, Mooney or whoever. An Engine Data Monitor looking at each individual cylinder is money well spent, allowing proper monitoring of your engine's health. Be interesting to know what added value your insurer considers the aircraft now has, as you've done a lot of expensive work there. Good luck with the air testing and run in process.

Great upgrade! What about getting new cylinders in mid TBO? What happens when you finally do the TBO? If they pass inspection, will they hold up until next TBO?

Done this lots of times on Lycomings but not on Continentals. Did they have to remove the oil filter and inspect it after first or second run? TonyS
