Many people don't know this so want to share. INSURE your house NOW while you are in the process of building. That way IF something happens you are covered. Ex: you have exterior walls up but no roof and a wind storm comes and blows walls down. Your materials may still be covered. Or catches fire.. Check with your agent. I have had this happen to neighbors.....

Your grandmother is absolutely correct. Time goes by so quickly and before you know it you will be old like me with 6 grandkids and 2 great grandkids and wonder how the hell time went by so fast. Enjoy each and every day and do all you can with the family while you can because in a heart beat they will be grown and have their own families. Melissa is a bad ass slinging those joist/yoist around like sticks. Love your videos and they are so well done with the views of the mountains, the farm, the animals and most important your kids. Bravo to you.

I think the reason time seems to go by faster as we get older is because 1 day (24 hours) becomes shorter and shorter the longer we live (compared to the total number of days we have lived).

Your Grandmother was a wise woman. I grew up on a ranch and miss it dearly now. Remember our chores and just living it up out in the country, riding horses, playing in the hay, getting in the water tank. So much fun! The side where the rim joist runs parallel with the floor joists have to be beefed up and blocking added in order to support the outside walls.

You can lay 2" x 12" x 12' boards on the forks to better support long boards when transporting. A large engineer's sledge hammer is often called a "persuader". Joists need bridging to keep them ridgid. Usually there is a code or instructions that specifies the spacing of bridging(aka diaphragms). It's easier and safer to put the bridging in before the floor. What is the stud spacing of the knee walls? They don't seem to match the joist spacing. BTW my grandparents were from Sweden, they never pronounced "Js" the way we do. You're making good progress. Good Luck, Rick

@@elliottmanning O..so sorry for you, I'm sure you would have love to have some grandkids...pray, surely all is not lost, men can still father children for many years, even women are able. My best friend still became a mother in her late 43; she had already given up having tried everything for more than 20 years...when she least expected it. My girls are 31 and 21, still chances but the eldest is starting to understand she has to make some serious moves instead of putting things off waiting for the perfect moments, house, career etc otherwise she might miss the window too and regret things

I haven't seen anything major yet. It's all working out wonderful. Any money they might have saved by waiting another year has been made up in increased RU-vid interest/revenue and better quality of life for their kids. The only thing I question is why the garage is so far from their house.

That is the crawl space, it will stay dirt and once they've finished the plumbing under there, then they will lay down plastic to keep the moisture from wicking up through the floorboards. They will now lay the subfloor on those joists, after which they will next frame the walls on the subfloor .

Take a peek at Matt Risinger’s RU-vid channel. He’s an experienced builder based in Texas and does a great job of explaining why you should pour a slab in your crawl space.

@@UKCG_2 Matt's more of a commercial contractor. Pouring a slab in their crawl space would be expensive and unnecessary.
