Thanks again for taking a look at my request. The main reason I chose this song in particular is because of the lyrics actually, I was curious how you'd interpret them and interestingly you were pretty spot on besides some details you couldn't have known about without knowing more about the game like how the game starts with the world ending. Fun fact the vocals were actually done using the Mac OS text to speach voice Albert and some of the lyrics are quoted from the King James version of Book of Revelation.
For multiple installments at that: bringing about Satan to enact the day of Judgement (SMT 2); an oppressive supreme deity that claims to be a savior, but in actuality is a fear mongering dictator that oppresses the people through a system designed to keep itself in power (A lot of the games, but mostly SMT 2 and SMT 4); oppressed people (or rather singularly the main protagonist in the True Demon Ending) rejecting the supreme deity as a god and destroying the system that they govern, and than preparing for the final battle with God (SMT3); Satan being the one who oppresses the people through deceit and keeping them subservient to God (SMT4:Apocalypse). Also "Claiming to be a savior and protector, but we reject you as a God" is basically the Chaos and Neutral routes in each game, but SMT 3 embodies this idea the best in my opinion.
omg its amazing that you chose a song from this series. One clarification: Megami Tensei is the main franchise, Shin Megami Tensei is their main line series, and there are many other side series within the Megami Tensei franchise such as Persona (which you have reacted to in the past), Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner etc. They share a general lore but the timelines are split up in such a way to allow these many different games to have unique and vastly different settings and plots. (also this series has been going on since the 80's and there are A LOT of games haha but its my fave franchise of all time)
I think there are several different interpretations of the lyrics in the song. I've seen the part "I'm the lord and savior" written as "I'm the bug inside you" instead. The "I'm the bug inside you" still makes sense in the context of the game, since the protagonist gains power from ingesting parasitic insects

The SMT Core Series has always had the central theme of the roles of Gods, Angels, and Demons in the case of the apocalypse, often with questions of morality and philosophy behind them.
The lyrics of SMT Nocturne's Fierce battle are borrowed from the Bible and edited and put together for the world building. In SMT, Satan and Lucifer are different entities, where Lucifer is a tyrant who seeks anarchy and total freedom, and Satan is a judge in Hell, directly or indirectly siding with God. "One more god rejected" is a bit funny here because it can mean a few things: -The protagonist killing other gods. -The protagonist being the one rejected by God (it'd have to be read as "One more God rejected"). -It has no real meaning and sounds cool. I this last one because early in the game you can choose to do a sidequest and the protagonist, despite his demonic form seems to have been given a quest from God and that sidequest goes against it, though in that case it could also play into the first meaning I explained. Shin Megami Tensei is a pretty big franchise that isn't too relevant in mainstream outside of Persona, a subseries stemming from SMT. It's a franchise involving characters who struggle in a world filled with demons, especially in the main timeline in which you almost feel a bit of horror in the background. The games aren't horror, but take themselves seriously and can get pretty messed up.
I love this song because the lyrics can be heard differently and thus can be interpreted differently. Depending on what you hear, some people think it's about angels, angry at you for rejecting God, or think it's about demons encouraging you to reject God.
@@krakowiak2098 Simply Dad mentioned this in his SMT 3 video. It does come from a MAC (although the MAC used looks very old and Albert's voice sounded kind of muffled and odd). I can download Albert's voice on my MAC (sounds cleaner than thr Simply Dad example), and yes, it's the same voice used for the lyrics in SMT 3. I think pretty much every MAC can download and use Albert's voice.

Actually, Satan, isn't in the game. You can have part of his power through the Satan Magatama (A living-demon that carries power withing it) but the one we can fight and is the True Final Boss is Lucifer. Which is quite interesting since SMT uses a pretty old branch of Jewish texts where Satan is more of a job than a actual creature Satan is "The Judge", the one who judges humanity and is sat at side of God and Lucifer is the enemy. In Megami Tensei these two are antithesis and they actually hate each other. Satan is the absolute angel and Lucifer the Demon King.
@@netomoreira3525 Satan in the context of the Book of Revelation is the exact same role Lucifer plays in the game. The lyrics are referring to the Devil, AKA Lucifer.
@@kagetsuki23 I know, what I’m saying is that the character that SMT Satan is supposed to represent is not the same character as Satan from the Book of Revelation. Satan is based on ha-satan from the Book of Job, an angel of God. Satan in the Book of Revelation is an entirely different entity, he is the Devil, a rebel against God. This is who SMT Lucifer is supposed to represent. So it could be inferred that the lyrics in the game are referring to Lucifer, otherwise why would they mention someone who doesn’t even appear in Nocturne?
"When the 1000 Years have expired, Satan will be released." Good thing this line is only said once per full loop so people are unlikely to notice it. This is one reference that goes over a LOT of heads. (you won't find it in any persona games after all)
I REALLY hope u can listen to Battle B2 (SMT IV) or Normal Battle (SMT III) they are compositionally amazing tracks and never fail to make my soul leave my body
I had a really hard time narrowing my suggestion down. I chose fierce battle mostly because it's so ironic but Battle B2, Nocturne normal battle, Battle for Survival from DDS2, SMT4A's One who stands against God, and SMT4's Tokyo theme were all on my mind too.
Nocturne has amazing music they are all great Edit: Persona is a spin off of the Smt franchise they have so many spin off games but Smt is less popular but is the main series Edit 2: your observation of it is accurate, also the games enemies like the common enemies you fight are mostly based on actual gods, deities and legends from real life which somewhat fits

4:55 oh it is totally about literal religion, the boss theme lyrics starts with "We'll sacrifice the son of Heaven!". This is Shin Megami Tensei, it goes around several religious themes, specially on the main line series. A spoiler about SMT III in the end. You should look around more MegaTen games OSTs, such as Persona, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor... Persona 3 'Battle for Everyone's Souls', Digital Devil Saga 'Big Battle' and 'Divine Entity', and Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey 'Take the Shield Rise the Spear' are on my top 10 favorites of all time. . . . . In SMTIII, the protagonist is turned into a demi-fiend by Lucifer himself with some sort of parasite, some people theorizes that the lyrics on some of the battle themes are the parasite whipering those blasphemorous song to the protagonist.

Diving into the game side of the shin Megami tensei games, the song “one more god rejected” is literal considered the shin Megami tensei games have to do with chaos, order, creation, destruction, mythology, and what path the main character will choose to dictate the future of the world while in the middle of those concepts.
Aw yes, going back to the classics. SMT has amazing music. Especially 3, 4 and Strange Journey IMO. Well, almost anything Atlus really. SMT in general usually involves variations of the Biblical apocalypse. Angels, demons, and man trying to survive through it. If I recall correctly, in SMT3 you're there as the world "ends", and it's left in this state of ruined limbo. Basically you and a few others who have managed to survive the apocalypse must also survive in this destroyed demon/angel-infested Tokyo, while also finding a way to reach "god" and appeal to him, making him remake the world according to the person's views. Each one of the characters have a view that's forged by their experiences in this hellish landscape, as to how the world should be remade, and you, being the protagonist, can choose to ally with one of them. Or you can ally with none of them and forge your own path (of which there are several), depending on what you do and how you answer dialogue. SMT usually divides up those paths along variations of Law/Order, Neutrality and Chaos/Anarchy. Each game presents them under varying lights and outcomes, so you can't say for example "oh, Neutrality is the best option in all the games".
Your breakdown was actually very accurate. I love Nocturne and it's one of my favorite RPGs. The SMT series does, indeed, deal with very weighty themes like philosophy and religion, and as far as games go, Nocturne is very unorthodox from a storytelling perspective. Your quest isn't some grand adventure to avert evil and save the world, rather, the game ends roughly 10 minutes in. The remainder takes place in a post-apocalyptic vortex world where humanity has all but been wiped out and only demons remain. Your character is spared the fate of death by a young boy and their caretaker who implants a demonic entity called a magatama into you, effectively turning you into the "Demi-Fiend" (a being who is half-human/half-demon) as you embark on a quest to recreate the world in a number of differing but equally flawed images. Another thing to note is that, although SMT focuses on religion and its demons are drawn from real-world cultures, it refrains from ever giving a "good" or "evil" viewpoint. Instead, its moral alignments are divided into "Law" and "Chaos" which are opposite ends of the spectrum and propose moral ideals like survival of the fittest or conformity at any cost.
I always saw Law and Chaos as the 2 extreme political stances Law being Fascism (ultimate leader, ultimate law, you break it, you die, you follow it, you live in happiness) Chaos being Anarchy (no laws, no leaders, no government, only individuals where the strongest are the ones who thrive)
@@elhugox1 I think "social darwinism" is more appropriate for Chaos. Anarchists usually talk about the abolition of all hierarchies, which usually would also mean ones based on power as well.
Personally I think that this song was foreshadowing the original direction for the series back when SMT3 was first released. Personally I'm hoping for something similar to SMT3 in atmosphere, narrative and music (Heavy metal and rock for the battle themes and the more atmospheric and sombre tracks for the backgrounds) in Shin Megami Tensei V when it releases this year.
I realy hope they do metal/rock themes in SMT5 too. I personally dont like the music from Persona or Strange Journey But SMT Main line (except Strange Journey) are really good. Some Spin offs like Digital Devil Saga and Devil Surviver have some really good tracks too (especially DDS 2 man l love the themes in this game xD).

PS the game is phenomenal and has some of the best music ive heard in a video game. Great atmosphere and world, too. Since the game is, essentially, a battle between Law and Chaos, "one more god rejected" is dependent entirely on what path you choose in game.
The SMT sub series Persona has some amazing tracks. I’d recommend- P3- The Battle For Everyone’s Souls Burn My Dread Mass Destruction P4- Pursuing My True Self Reach Out To The Truth A New World Fool P5- Life Will Change Throw Away Your Mask Rivers In The Desert
The game also had battle music on the world map that randomly switched between different sick ass guitar riffs, which means that you'll never really get tired of the battle music. Plus, there were also different themes for different areas too, lot of music love in this game. Pretty much all the music was done by an in house band too.
My favorite reading of the line "one more God rejected" is not that God is being rejected but that God has rejected the subject of the song, the protagonist. God has rejected you and in turn will not provide his salvation to you
We SMT boys! Gotta say I did not expect this one, haha. I'd have to second the guy's recommendation for SMT4's Battle B2, or Battle C2, Nocturne's Town Battle theme is also great, or the Reason boss theme, or the first final boss theme, or... I think you get the point, haha. The SMT and Persona series (which is an SMT spin-off) are known for great music among other things. Take a look at Persona 3's Battle for Everyone's Souls, too. Recommendations from this series would never end, man, haha. SMT is a JRPG series heavily based on gnosticism and the judeochristian mythos, so yeah, REALLY overt religious references on these. You are the messiah facing the end of the world, in the case of SMT3 a half demon boy, and you're basically faced with the choice of what the heck to do then. Do you side with order, chaos, do you remain neutral while the gods feud over what happens next? They are literally "Attack and Dethrone God: The Game". They're great.
I’m gonna have to recommend either Battle B2 from SMTIV, the final boss theme of SMT Nocturne (Lucifers boss theme), SMT Nocturnes Boss battle theme ,or either an honor befitting that name, or Fear of God from SMT Strange Journey. Also find it really interesting how spot on you were with how Satan is portrayed throughout the series (Satan in this case being a bit closer to the Old Testament, hence Lucifer being a separate entity within the series, although in SMTIV Lucifer also plays a different role and seems to be a different being than in say Nocturne)
I always thought the lyrics in the songs were a reference to the magatama( bug like creature) the demifiend has inside his body, as if he Is hearing voices in his head nudging him in different directions, plus a sort of literal interpretation of the "I'm the bug inside you" line
Absolutely adore the music in all of the SMT games. You should check out one of my favorites, the final boss theme from Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 called "Brahman".
Basically the song sounds like you are coming across an arch angel ascending. And then is suddenly getting chock slammed down to hell, by the guy/worm screaming these lyrics in it's ear as they burn.
I believe it’s saying “One more god rejected” despite that it might not. Since you literally kill gods from other mythologies and religions in the game. But I can see how other people might not.
@@meddlingmage23 the glasses thing is incorrect: 3 they trigger the feeling that you’re going to die with a fake gun, 4 they crush a card, and in 5 they rip off a mask. The only two I know of with glasses are 4, to see through the fog, and 5, if you count the mask.
Honestly just listening to the songs like this is cool and all, but they hit so much better when you are actually playing the game and fighting the bosses.
At the beginning of a game, Lucifer puts the bug in the protagonist, the lyrics are intended to be the worm thing shouting propaganda on your ear to lead you astray, the God is oppressive however
From what I interpreted of the line "One more God rejected," it feels like the voice, or broadcaster as you put it, is telling the player that they are "another one that was rejected by God." The lyrics also fit with many Gnostic beliefs where the being that calls itself "God" and demands absolute obedience is actually a false god, and many Gnostic sects, like the Sethians, believe that Satan or the Serpent from the Garden of Eden is a savior trying to free humanity from "God's" tyrannical control. It is especially fitting since Satan means The Accuser and is reserved for demons and angels who accuse God of his wrongdoings.

SMT have a mainline series, that goes from SMT 1 to 5 now, and, then, the spinoffs, like Persona, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, etc. They all revolve around the same themes, just different universes (aside from one and another references in-game).
Finally i see that i'm not the only one who felt that this song sounds like a propaganda, like when i first heard this song years ago i felt it sounded like an orator screaming in the microphone the ideas.
Another interpretation to "one more god rejected" I like is if it was meant to be read in an olde englishe way, with "one more God rejected" actually meaning "one more [person]" "[that] God has rejected" so being synonymous with "another one God rejected" rather than "another god rejected" So then the song becomes a constant brutality of the screaming god pushing people around, with that frequent chorus being said by Himself and symbolizing Him killing off a person in real time every time for not obeying Him immediately, therefore "rejecting" that person from His salvation
If remember correctly Satan serves YHVH in SMT he is a tool of god to punish those who do not obey him while Lucifer trying to free humanity and lesser gods/demons from his rule and live in chaotic world. So it's close enough

One important thing to know about this song is that most people play through the whole game without having any idea that this song even has lyrics! When you don't have the lyrics on the screen, it just sounds like random background screaming. I wonder how your reaction would have been if you had picked a video that didn't have the lyrics on screen
so here a small summary of the plot of smt3 nocturne : some guy artificially forced the apocalipse early so he could basically partake on a retual to create a new world at his image the protagonist is taken by the process and turned into a demifind half human half demon and is now forced to either embrace a ideology that will be the core of the new world or side with Lúcifer and challenge god. so yeah you're quite acurate on it
