Not sure if you've done it already, but the TYS horn players have said that the most difficult song for them to play live is Blood on the Radio, off the same album, because it is just non-stop. This song is a great one though, and very often used as the show ender/encore (the chorus lends very well to it). Thanks for checking these guys out again! Check out their new(ish) EP sometime, Plague Accomodations. 4 Tracks with four very different feels.

Ahh the song that got me into this band. Spotify said hey we think you might like this song. Now, FXMLDR is one of my favorite songs.

TYS and The Dear Hunter have to be my two favorite bands, and this song displays so much of TYS’s skill, love the horns

Talking about shredders as "spectacle guitarists" reminds me of Adrian Belew being called a "stunt guitarist." We need to get him on the channel again some time beyond his NIN guest solo.

one of my all time fav guitar solos, so much maturity and great decision making surrounding one of the most technical shreds around

Tom Monda is just in a different league of guitar players. He not only plays with such a high technical proficiency, but everything he plays always serves the song so well. His ability to improve is also off the charts. Our generation's Guthrie Govan🙏

I thought the same exact thing with the vocals sounding so much like coheed! He's definitely getting some inspiration from them.

I've listened to this song countless times and never noticed the violin... Thanks for pointing that out.

Love these guys. Probably in my top 5 in terms of new prog bands (I remember one of our earliest discussions was on one of your TYS reactions!). This is actually from their very first album, which might still be my favorite from them, though it's really nit-picking between their three LPs. I do think one thing this first album had was a lot of off-the-wall energy, perhaps due to the mathy and, as you mentioned, the Coheed influences. I felt they've leaned even more proggy/jazzy on their next two albums, there's a bit more refinement, but I do think they lost a bit of this kind of youthful verve. I dig pretty much everything about this track, even the "idea salad" section in the middle is really fun, and the guitar solo is one of their best.

Huh, I kinda figured this would be later in their discography than some of the others since they feel more comfortable here, as if it were later in their career. It's a bit of a shame that they don't carry this energy more often. I like the other tracks I've heard but this is definitely my favorite so far.

@@CriticalReactions They've always been a pretty comfortable, accomplished, confident, creative band (how's that for alliteration!) from their first album. It's not like I think their later albums are dull or anything, they just weren't quite this extroverted.

Thank you for the reaction!! This song is incredible 😁 A song you should check from TYS is Life of Vermin (this song have a trumpet solo). I highly recommend the entire album (Terraformer), is a complete journey 😉 Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱!
