To keep moisture in or toom uch of it out, I just cover with a tarpaulin. No need for the hoop thingies. Love composting. Thank you for sharing

Hello, you are right about the hoops not being necessary. We went with hoops to prevent our many cats climbing up on the bins and clawing at the tarps. It is working for the most part except for 1 kitty who still climbs up and finds a spot. Thanks for watching.

Composting is a great free resource. I saved big dollars over the last few years avoiding paying for soil. ** I have a 4 bin pallet system (2x2 back to back) and they only last about 3 years. That's a lot to spend on screws every 3 years. I like your system however I'd figure a way to make a dual cage system for easy turning and dumping into the adjacent bin.

Thanks for your continued contributions of educational content. We have used similar systems using wood pallets. This is incentive to restart that activity.

I’m absolutely giving this a go! Our local composting company has been unreliable lately so I’m trying to ramp up my own compost production. I can’t seem to ever get mine hot though. Guess I’ll keep experimenting! Thank you!!

Really good stuff, covered a lot think the 5 foot diameter is a great size. Easy! Think adding some Johnson and Su Bioreactor pvc pipes to add more air to the center of the pile. They use 9 for 4 feet diameter, have more restrictive airflow on the exterior.

It'll let the heat out.🤪 This is a different method.

Looks like a shady area, how much sun are those bins getting every day? Do you ever cover them at any stage, tarp? Thanks
@BareMtnFarm
@BareMtnFarm 4 месяца назад
They get about 6 hours of sun. During the summer the afternoon is kind of shady. We cover the bins with tarps in the fall rainy season. Thank you for the question.

Why aren’t the bins closer together?
@BareMtnFarm
@BareMtnFarm Год назад
They are about 1 1/2 feet apart. The new bin had to be placed a little farther because of the drain line needed to move water from the ditch and from the cooler's roofline. Thank you for the comment and for watching.

Temperature isn’t an indicator of oxygen content. I expect you’re left handed. I’m right handed and find turning from from right to left easier on my body.
@BareMtnFarm
@BareMtnFarm Год назад
Actually I am right-handed. I built it where there was space. But most likely I will move it as you said. Guess I didn't think it through fully. Haha, thank you for the comment and for watching.

Undo the fastening wires and it opens up.
