For kids watching this clip, computers were reeeaaallly slow back then. This was due to the limitations on the hardware of the computer and the limitations of dial-up internet. Computers really did make those kinds of noises everyime you turned it on or anytime it was processing a lot of commands.
0:47 I actually work in IT, and I’m not gonna lie, that initialization screen had me dying XD. It’s made even funnier by the fact that someone from the studio’s IT team was probably brought in and told by Maxwell “We’re looking for a gag on this one. Just keep it clean but make it funny.”
I’d like to point out that I work in information security, and the http on the website did have me shaking my head going “Damn. Couldn’t pay to generate a cert on it??”
Such a brave and ballsy move to put an innuendo like this in a kids show, as it was with many other shows at the time. Shout out to 2000’s cartoon creators!!!!!
This is probably one of the best adult jokes in history. Not just because of the accidental stumble across a mature website, but also because of referencing how terrible dial-up internet was back then😂
God the sound design is so good. The awkward silence, the sounds of the computer's shitty old disk drive working, the awful sounds of the dial up modem, it all combines to create a perfectly strange and hilariously uncomfortable scene.
Took me until just now to realize that Grim breaks the fourth wall and looks directly at the camera when addressing that the site wasn't for children to see
The 2nd time the computer freezes and causes the audio to stutter always gets me. Happened to me a lot when I was a kid. Also loved how the online game Harum Scarum is in this scene. Loved playing it as a kid.
me too! This clip is taken from The Season 4 episode: The secret snake club (2005) this episode originally aaired on Cartoon Network on Feburary 21st 2005! and in this episode: It's school club day, And billy, Irwin and mandy all join different clubs. Irwin joins a macrame club. Billy and Junior CIA club and mandy the secret snake Club, Which turns out to be merely a front for nerds to get revenge on cool kids.
3 things about the video I would like to point out; 1. When it was starting up, it says "did you know billy and mandy was originally an internet cartoon? It wasn't that's a lie." 2. When the website loads it says "we will pwn the cool kids" then it has a weird definition of what pwn could stand for. 3. It has an ad in the upper right corner for an old Billy and Mandy flash game.
"WE WILL PWN THE COOL KIDS! Many people ask me, "Wiggly, what does the 'P' stand for in 'Pwn'? It stands for POWER. It also stands for pickles. And pate'. But that's beside teh point. Which 'P' also stands for. My point being, that we, the members of the Secret Snake Club have declared open rebellion on SDGs$ADFSGAsss Sorry Viper got ahold of the keyboard for a second. I hate..."
i know computers like those were pretty common for the early and mid 2000's, but it still makes me want say that the computers we have today make one's like the PC in this clip a freaking dinosaur.
0:45 SOOOOO many little references here. The jbastian warp core refers to Jay Bastian, who was the executive at Cartoon Network who stuck his neck out for this show time and time again when the others wanted this it killed for its content. He currently serves as vice president of Warner Bros. Animation.
OMG'! i just Saw a Billy and Mandy Halloween Game with Jack here with Mr.Knight Number One Character i use to Play with him in my Childhood and into my Teen Hood Man I AM SO REALLY MISS THAT GUY SO LONG
Which one was it the Halloween One where you fight jack evil pumpkins or is it the Christmas one where you battle through endless level of terrible toys?
i never got the joke until today and I used to rewatch it all the time as a kid! They don't make them like they used to. Hopefully one day they'll beg maxwell atoms to come back for the underfist series.
