I am afraid of giving tips, Sadcom seems to nerf everything that is fun. Overall good tips, just one tip missing in my opinion. Gates are not a bad idea as they serve perfectly for gas arrows as the AI tends to accumulate around the gates and most often will abandon the gate to beat you up if you are reachable, you can kite them around while your archers kill them. As for explody boyz I tend to have a follower with a big AP hammer, helps immensily. I am at level 6 purge and after doing some 10 of them nothing has entered my base. I suck mechanically at combat, so I am forced to be creative when it comes to dealing with "intruders". The most important tip you had is to build stuff to destroy outside the base, a single foundation that just shows above the ground is fantastic as the AI sometimes can´t hit it.

The basic concept of my tactics is (as the late great David Gemmell would write in the Chronicles of Druss the Legend) "Come on in you whore sons, Come in and die" (The Battle of Skeln Pass). I want them in my kill zones, i want them going through my mazes and choke points. I want them going though gas and FIRE, Gates just waste materials and time, the purgers will gather below the siege cauldron just as you said of the gates, But they will Burn below the fiery pitch, they choke upon the noxious gas I shall deliver upon them, they shall feel the piercing shafts of the star metal arrows. And if, only if they make it past and unto the center of the Hell they have brought upon themselves. They shall face the cold hearts and steel of the last of the Dozen. May their Gods have mercy upon their souls. For I shall NOT and nor will MY Dusty Dozen TLDR: You really don't need gates me 🦆
