I'd recommend googling the woman in this video. Her name is Lynn Ruane. She went from living a life of drugs and poverty, to turning her life around, and becoming student union president of Trinity College Dublin. She now works in politics and has devoted much of her time to helping those in need. She is an inspirational woman.
He didn’t understand a word and she really went all out with that lesson, it was inevitable it would conclude with Conan saying he’d get her a pint to put up her arse 😂😂
@@123JWJWJW it's ride. It's not really explained fully in the clip but to ride someone is to have sex with them so they themselves are referred to as a ride. Where the subs struggle is with words like "shy" student, to an Irish ear she's saying "shite", "a-niner" she's actually saying "annoying her" and she's saying "manky" for dirty, not monkey!
I love that Conan’s subconscious defensive body posture shows up the moment his red hair is mentioned. Thats some childhood trauma hell never get over haha.
This is like studying Shakespeare. First you have to struggle through the accent and identify the words spoken, then solve the puzzle of what they mean in that grouping.
lol she is an irish politician, with a rough background but turned her life around into a Teachtaí Dála, a member of irish parlaiment. very tough and no nonsense lady
Actual Irish actors in Hollywood have been asked to ham up their accent as that’s what Hollywood thinks Irish is. You know instantly what a real Irish accent is. She’s not hamming up anything that’s just how she talks. At times Conan got some of it right but the bit where he gets a little frustrated and sing songy. That’s Hollywood nonsense and non-irish people’s incorrect understanding of the accent. The other thing really is there are a lot of different accents spread over a very short area. She’s north side Dublin but southside is completely different. Also north and south Dublin accents were historically on the actual north and south side of the Liffey but that’s not the actual case any more. Conor McGregor has a Northside accent but he’s from Crumlin which is on the Southside. Now you could make an argument for the closer to the center you get the more Northside or inner city you get but they were always referred to as north and south side and typically it was regular vs posh.
I spent a summer in Ireland once, came home, tried out for an Irish character in a play, had it fairly close (northern)... and was told that my accent wasn't Irish enough. Lost out to a "hi dee tie dee tie" player... chagrinned was I! (Actually, rightly chaffed)
As my Dad used to say to me after I'd had a bad date....."My boy, we're Irish....we may not be able to make the girls scream, but we sure can make 'em giggle." Miss you Pops.
One of my favorite cuts of all time is the leprechaun scene. I love they put this in after the context it's hilarious. Shows how comedy changed but also how silly it is
The south korea teacher took on a BDSM headteacher vibe, the Australian teacher was 85% legs, and this one is fixated on mickeys, rides, and holes. Honestly it'd be hard for Conan not to go for biology jokes
As a Scotsman quite enjoyed this. Could understand her, and some of the phrases are not sayings we use over here but it was interesting hearing the small variations in the same phrases we do use.
Ah brilliant, As someone from Cork watching but living out of the Country now 22 years I love funny things like this, We have the get people stopping with the Da da da da leprechaun accent 🤣👍🤣
who on earth has done these subtitles. I'm Australian and even I can spot. She doesn't say "monkey", its "manky" and I'm fairly sure its "annoying her" not "niner"
That was by far the best of the "Conan Must Go" episodes. The first three were OK, but seemed forced and awkward at times. He seems much more like himself (or the character he plays) here - unhinged and letting it fly.
Conans Irish accent sounds more like Newfoundland 😂 The town I'm from in Ireland had lots people emigrate to Newfoundland in the 1930s and the accent has been handed down ever since 😂
