As a vet, I used 1911 when I got out in1983 as my preferred carried gun. When I tried the Glock 30s .45cal for the first time I noticed it handled the recoil better than my heavier 1911. I expected because the Glock was lighter the recoil would be terrible, but I was wrong. I shoot and carry using 200-grain rounds. I also have a 9mm in my collection, but I only carry my Glock 30S 45cal and I expect I will always unless they sell phasers eventually.

Best handling full sized .45acp I own is the Taurus PT845. It's lightweight, SA/DA hammer fired, holds 12+1 and is an absolute tack driver! I own several far more expensive .45acp, but it and my Ruger American Compact .45 are my go-to EDC.

You know if I had watched this video a year ago I would have agreed with every word you said. However, I am 53 and have shot 9mm for most of my life. I was always taught that 45 sucked, and I believed them. I got curious a couple of months ago and bought a Rock Island 5 inch 45. I am now PO'ed because I could have gotten that pistol a lot sooner. It has made me a 45 fan. I shoot it better at 20 yards than I do my best 9mm. I won't completely do away with my 9's but I carry that 45 a lot now. And I get to shoot it a lot more because it is so easy to cast bullets for it, which makes it cheaper to shoot believe it or not. (Disclaimer, as long as I can get primers) LOL

Funny enough the reason most people have an easier time shooting a compact or even a full length 1911 and 45 caliber is if you take into account to ballistics For example, the benefits of a 9 mm projectile over a 45 or present in full size pistols If you shoot a 45 caliber in a compact 1911, you’re getting better ballistics because most of the powder is being burnt, whereas with a 9 mm in a shortened handgun, most of the powder and benefits of the ballistics are seen with a full-size handgun Therefore, ballistically in a compact size of 45 is always going to be superior Size 9 mm full size 45 there is cons and pros on both sides. Realistically, I would rather reduce over penetration. And have a huge hole.

It has interested me for some time many handgun carriers decry the venerable .45 ACP as being equal to their 9MM handguns. Then, they'll carry a pocket 380 and say they are well armed. I've seen too many shootings in my LEO career to claim 9MM are equal to or better than a 45 ACP. Carry what you will but practice as often as you can...most do not.

A 45 caliber is just as good a caliber as any. If one can shoot a 9mm they can shoot and handle a 45acp in my opinion. Nowadays most use a Glock or striker-fired weapon for 45acp, more knowledgeable shooters use the 1911 type pistols in its traditional single stack 8 plus 1 with a 5-inch barrel that’s no big deal with its slim frame and I love the platform and carry it often due to it being used by me in the army.

He's spending all this time on why we shouldn't like a 45 caliber gun. But he's not that upto date on what is out there for the 45. The 45 shield performance center shoots great with a ported barrel. Springfield also makes a great small xds that shoots great according to alot of shooters. My 45 shield performance center is only a little bigger than the 9mm version and is easily controllable. The hst 45 round also expands reliably much bigger than a 9mm, dumping it's energy into the target with less over penetration. The fact is, just get what you prefer in caliber and handgun choice and if you can put your rounds on target then you should be fine. This is just my opinion, since I'm tired of people caliber bashing. You are trying to stop the bad guy yes, but I wonder how well it goes over in court blasting 15 rounds of 9mm into the bad guy. And if it's better to actually shoot less rounds, then I prefer my round are bigger on the chance they might have a slightly better chance of hitting something vital and bigger hole to bleed out through. Just some thoughts from someone other than a 9mm only club.

My qualification groups and times are about the same between the three weapons (with a slight accuracy advantage to the Kimber). Since I have been shooting for many years, I can honestly say that I don't notice the recoil. However, my daughter - who has been shooting substantially less time than I have, still has not problem keeping rounds on target with any of the three firearms. "Recoil" or "kick" has never been a complaint from anyone (from kids to adults) that have shot either of my .45s.

Not everyone is a Nancy. I shoot compact .45acp every bit as well and as fast on followup shots, as I do with a full sized frame. I have a CZ 97-B, a Walther PPQ .45, a Taurus PT845, a Ruger American Compact .45 and a Springfield XDS 3.3. I shoot all of them equally as fast and equally as accurate, because I train with all of them. Shooting your guns is the only way to minimize the effects of recoil and loss of target acquisition. You wanna carry 9mm because it holds a few more rounds? That's fine, because chances are you'll need all you can squeeze out of it. My EDC is my Ruger American .45 loaded with 155 grain Sinter Fire Special Duty. They clock in at 1135fps and absolutely show no mercy. I feel over-prepared when carrying 15 rounds. Keep your 9mm, to each their own, but I'm not gonna trust them to stop a dog, much less a crazy person on dope.

People today focus and tout so much on superiority of one cartridge vs another cartridge. Hogwash! Owning and shooting handguns in just about every caliber/cartridge configuration over the last 40 years has reinforced one thing to me. The size, type, controls and accuracy of a handgun are the most important aspects regarding a defensive handgun than the chambering. I would much rather face down an unskilled opponent using a tricked out high capacity 10mm than a highly skilled opponent with a 22LR revolver.

Physics and math says something big is more likely to tear up a vital organ than something little, per any given impact location. .45 doesn't need to be going crazy fast. I do find it odd that you don't mention a few key points, though: The number one thing a Glock guy buys after buying a Glock is new sights The laser grip issue is universal for all grip lasers unless the laser is placed under the barrel as opposed to mounted on the grip. Much can be done to reduce recoil regardless of caliber (weaker loads, different grain weights, hybra-porting, etc.). Follow-up shots have a lot to do with the firearm itself (SA vs. DA and so forth) and not just caliber. I mean, anecdotal is all fine and good . Personally, I lived in Alaska, and a former buddy is an officer there now (Fairbanks), and he carries an FN 45. Strange huh?

I loved your .40s&w videos, and think .40 is the greatest handgun round ever created. However, while I carry a Glock 23 Gen5, I think the Glock 30 is the most accurate Glock pistol because it tends to torque less in the hand. It has the perfect power:capacity ratio, particularly for restricted states. The G23 is noticeably more punishing to shoot than the G30. I think the learning curve is far less steep for 230gr .45 than 180gr .40.

If I carry a 9mm, it might. be my sig or FN compact, but I usually carry if not a 1911, a shield performance center in .45 ACP.I’m a retired LEO, I hear alot of younger guys preach that the only viable carry is a mega round ; Glock type pistol, but i’ll probably keep carrying my .45 ACP, you didn’t piss me off, I’ve heard it before , maybe as I grow older , and my arthritis gets worse , i’ll give my 1911’s to my sons and get one in 9mm, but some how it doesn’t sit right with me

My only time with the Gov't. Model was just out of the service circa 1973-74. I worked part-time for our small county seat PD. Had to have the Series 70 Mk. 4 ramp throated (polished) to feed the 185 JHPs. Probably not a factor in later models but could be with older GMs along the way. If I ever went back in time, would probably look for one in Super 38.

Just my opinion but the one place a full size .45 really shines is the use for a nightstand/home defense tool. It being quieter than a 9mm or .40 makes a difference. Adding a suppressor on it in a home with long hallways is also nice. You might not get the same capacity as a 9mm but a double stack 13+1 is plenty at those distances imho. It will have light recoil as well and it's further mitigated if you're into adding lights on your gun. I'm thinking of a 5" full size Springfield XD. I love those guns actually.

For me , I’ve always been 9mm but then I got an HK45 from my friend because I love HK and would like to have every caliber because I love firearms . Now 45 is my home defense handgun. I like that it’s slower and less likely to over penetrate while delivering a nasty wound cavity, it’s always a very big handgun and shoots really nice and I’m very accurate with it. I might end up using my 5.7 for home defense but haven’t trained with it enough and found the right ammo yet. But 9mm for IWB , and I keep my 5.7 in my bag. I just got a M&P 2.0 10mm that I’m extremely fond of and may be a carry option moving forward in rotation for certain situations and the winter time. I have to find the right ammo because over penetration is important to me personally. But I like the versatility of 10mm. I can have a nasty ass load or a load that performs closer to a .40 SW. so it’s still more bang than my 9mm. I love the way that gun feels in my hand. PSA will be coming out with a 5.7 rock compact and I’ll definitely be getting it when it’s released. I love how 5.7 works. The capacity and how fast and explosive it is but dumps all that energy and does jumping jacks and limits over penetration.

You can make an argument for or against any gun, any caliber. Handguns are personal. Not all handguns or calibers work for all people. Someone with smaller, weaker, hands might not be able to shoot a small framed handgun in 45 acp, just as someone with giant meat hooks might not be able to shoot one of the new, tiny, micro 9mm's well. If you find a handgun that you can conceal well and shoot well, then that is the right carry gun for you.

Historically, the John Wick franchise has done more for the 9mm than any old opinion or better bullet options. Everyone likes the bullet hose, high round capacity wonder pistols and may have bought into the idea that somehow bullets seek out their targets. It’s not reality, only fantasy. However, practice is reality. If you live long enough, you will see this fragile thought almost everywhere that individuals have self doubt. If you can hold back your immediate fear and replace it with assured expectation based on reality and capability, recoil worries disappear like soap bubbles in a breeze. “A prepared mind” and all that it entails, along with muscle memory will do just fine. If you spend more money on ammo and practice than on the next “best” 9mm, you’re headed in the right direction. A tool is a tool, learn how to use it. If you just want to look cool, there’s an app for that.

I carry and shoot the 45 shield no problem with recoil. Yes it has recoil I agree but my main reason for carrying it for self defense is the fact it is slow less penetration but effective penetration using hollow points it leaves a devastating wound channel and hopefully will not over penetrate and hit someone. With the 45acp and 380 acp one really needs to do a lot of testing with different types of ammunition. These calibers are low pressure and slow so hollow point ammunition seems to struggle to expand properly depending on the gun. These calibers were designed back 1903 to 1908 so they were based on 45 colt or black powder revolvers they were designed to replace. At that time to the best of my knowledge hollow point bullets didn't exist so fmj or solid lead was the ammunition of that time
