Rather upsettingly I DID find a 35th PSA when putting together the links for IcebergCharts.com. It's called "Transaction" and has a single upload with around 7000 views so it's likely not a very well remembered one. The upload quality is so poor I can barely make out what's going on and I have never seen this one myself so I have very little to say about it. You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5PpyonwqolM.html
Would it have killed the guys making the Blown Away ad to use a wind machine or simply shot it on a windy day. It seems less like a breeze carried it away and more like an invisible pixie just stole it from his hand.
The be true to you psa has a very confused message to me. It's good that it teaches people to be independent in mind and not be swayed by their peers, but the last line about drinking responsibly is said almost in the same breath about doing drugs. What is it implying? That it's okay to take drugs responsibly? Drugs are addictive, you can't.
Having the message to just walk away from bullies is such a braindead argument. Do they honestly expect the bully to walk away when you ignore them? If they can't win by verbal abuse, they'll use force. That's how bullies work. It doesn't even tell you to inform a teacher. Ignorance is actually how bullies succeed.
With the what's your thing at psa it does its job okay but there's a disturbing subtext. Why did the kids have to have bugs on his face? The trays of bugs was good enough. Don't saw your sister in half. What the actual fuck? Don't dance on the food, you brat. Also the baking got heavy metal music, but not the tuba? You just implying it sucks.
@@matthewbarr8986 Or the 'classic' that basically boils down to have you tried not being so weird. Gee let me just... Rewire my whole brain. Problem solved!
I’m not Canadian but these ads definitely aged. Also my take on the “Boy, it’s not easy being one” ads is that it’s about toxic masculinity and integrity and the fact that boys are often dealing with social stigmas they can’t get out of because they’re boys and this is probably to show them that they aren’t alone in that
I always think if the kid that lost the Pokémon card and it still hurts to see... "What's you thing" is straight up a classic and always I think of the bugs kid. Thanks for unlocking more nostalgia I don't think I needed but wanted.
my dad was a kid when that ad would air regularly and apparently the kids in his class came up with "drugs drugs drugs, all are good, none are bad, drugs drugs drugs, test them on your mom and dad" lmfao
The Smart as You PSA was vivid in my memory, I enjoyed it a lot, but I am often still kind of creeped out by the TV’s uncanny appearance due to early CGI, but it’s one of my favorites along with The Trap, House Hippo, Choose and Boutique.
@@carlycarmine3858 No, I believe it was because they watched TV mostly during the late afternoon to evening, and saw it on teen and adult targeted programming.
Sometimes I wish I would've seen these PSAs. I'm someone with a not-so-great home life, and I often feel like my concerns aren't valid. I think I would've realized I had problems a lot sooner if I had seen these PSAs. It's nice to feel heard now that I'm watching these.
Man Canada has some weird PSA's. The PSA's I saw in the states weren't too bad. The ones that shocked me were the "smoking" ads mostly. Always showing people who fucked up by smoking with holes in their throats and then smoking out of it. That gets to you. It's disturbing and always played on tv.
Comments as someone living in the US who hasn't watched a lot of these before(commenting as I watch): -The Healthy U in "Health Rock" is adorable. I want to draw him now. -"Use Your Head" and "Body" seem like a perfects PSA to make a Touhou parody out of. Think of the whole thing but with Sekibanki instead of the kid, since her power is taking her head off and controlling it separately like that. -As creepy as "The Trap" looks, I think the mouse trap metaphor really works for the message. -Out of context, a program called "Body Break" with 'War Canoeing' as a listed activity on it sounds threatening.
Completely forgot these existed. Didn't watch much TV as a kid but still vividly remember Health Rock, Ice Scream, House Hippo, The Chase, Tell Someone, and Smart as You. I'd imagine those were some of the later airing ones, as I probably saw them around 2006-2010. I wish you didn't expose me to Health Rock again though, I know that's going to be stuck in my head for the next 6 years
focusing on the hip choice ad for a sec, everything you said was hilarious including the ghoul children puppets and the gonorhea eyed high school co worker. i think the setting is pretty cool though.
There is a CCA promo of parents arguing in their kitchen as their daughter sits with her back to them. As the camera slowly pulls back, the kitchen becomes a school classroom and a narrator states that children take their problems with them in public. The dad somewhat resembles Patrick McKenna of The Red Green Show and Traders fame, which wouldn't be surprising if it is him, as he is Canadian. According to Wikipedia, it's called "Mental Wellness" and aired in 2012 (two years after Media Monkey), so I'm certain this is your elusive missing PSA from Concerned Children's Advertisers. Plus, I do recall the seizure one that someone messaged you about in the middle of your video. I don't remember if it was a part of Concerned Children's Advertisers, though, but I do remember the kid having a seizure at a playground as his friends demonstrate to themselves (and the audience) the do's and don'ts if they experience this. It was the first time I heard of seizures, so that's why it stuck with me.
The only PSA I knew was “don’t put it in your mouth” I remember laughing at it so hard i started coughing. Especially when the girl puppet thing said “I love you can I eat the ✨guitar✨?”
WAIT WHAT!? YOU HAVE 197 SUBS!? THIS IS SO WELL MADE I THOUGHT I WAS WATCHING A POPULAR YTER!! I hope you see this cause wow man, keep up the good shit.
i was born in 06 but they must have kept airing the words can hurt one because i remember seeing it on Family Channel when i was like 7 and being traumatized
@@sungazercyan yeah, i remember they stopped around the time that the Family/Disney Channel split happened which was also 2016 so that would make sense
I look away from my screen for a few seconds and when I look back I see a decapitated child's body breaking down some moves. What a great way to start a week. 42:01 Also, this guy looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Bro, please do more of these! This iceberg was so good! 😊 Also, I feel like I've seen Body Break before... weird, since I'm an American. I feel like I saw it sometime in the mid-late '00s airing on some local stations on, like, Saturday mornings, or something...
I loved this! A few takeaways; ~The Drug Rap is hilarious! It’s also supremely catchy. ~Story Time reminds me of a Horrible Histories (British kids sketch show about the disgusting and weird side of history) segment which retold fairytales with a period twist. ~If Blown Away happened to me, I would kill the wind. Especially if it was strong enough to blow a rare Gogo out of my hands, or a board game I just brought… ~That bugs kid is just super interested in entomology, don’t knock him. You never know, he could be raising deadly spiders to use on bullies… ~Knock On Wood seems like the beginning of a true crime case. Kid gets yoinked and his peer pressure mates don’t say a peep. ~Rehab is sweet. I love sibling relationships and the cuddle… aw~! ~Smart As You… early CGI, what can I say? ~As someone in the transformation story community, Boutique is definitely an inspiration. Imagine a future where branches of this boutique for so many ‘cool’ people are open, and the youth are a bunch of clones of these models, so the adults have to shut it down. But the boutique treatments are slowly becoming for all ages… ~CUTE RATS ~Crack makes me squirm. I’ve watched enough of X-Files to know what a body bag looks like, but imagine what younger children would think… ~Astar looks like the Japanese Toku hero Kikaider. ~Dr. Rabbit has kids!!!!!
damn, these really bring back some memories. reminds me of watching CBC and PBS kids, teletoon and YTV in the apartment living room without a care in the world
Great video! I great up in Canada in the late 90s and early 2000s so i remembered over half of this psa s! Im glad you included more obscure ones that i dont remember or were before i was old enough to remember. Or didnt have cable anymore and so didnt see any of the newer ones.
i swear some PSA's ive seen are like actually gore, and are wayyyy worse than these. Id be lucky to grow up with theses PSA's than the ones i have seen 😭
Please tell me im not the only one who really liked the rat one and the one with the blue fuzzy puppets? Maybe its just because ive always been a huge fan of puppets but those 2 ads brought me some joy just looking at them 😕
If your channel suddenly gets a boost, I just found your channel and I see a lot of videos I'm looking forward to binging later. The Spiffing Brit proved views from accounts with RU-vid premium apparently help with getting seen by the alg0rithm, something I've seen many times first hand, so I look forward to seeing you hit new milestones in the near future. 😁
“We all agree the old Aster one is worst?!” ... I mean objectively yes, but... I kinda see the charm in the older one! I may it has so much flair in it and even if it is a bit choppy it doesn’t stop this ‘planet danger’ from looking cool! I won’t argue that Aster does seem more disturbing and his voice sounds mocking like he’s mocking what the original Aster said. I am surprised that this is the remake, I thought it was backwards when you first showed it, so that’s strange how the earlier one does have a few better factors then the later one.
the drug rap lives rent free in my head, but the house hippo was the best, even NOW the hippo looks believable. The raccoon story one I liked too but because the art was nice and it was really calming. What's Your Thing, I love quoting that one still with my friends I feel sad still whenever i see "How was your day" The talking tv one I liked a lot as it flashed one second of ReBoot The Boutique, ah yes, that one gave me nightmares XD lol The Trap one I never minded, but Don't You Put it in Your Mouth I hated.. except the lion, when he spoke it was over. My mom still sings that one. The drug dealer one scares me, I'm glad I saw it when I was older. The waramps robot was kinda neat imo, they sorta tried to replicate the music from Shadow Raiders/ Beast Machines. Gosh, the Drugs Not 4 Me... jfc that one scared me a lot. Body Break, AWESOME! I wonder what happened to the couple from that though AAAAA Stay Alert!! I loved that one! Thanks for doing this list
Love the content but GOD DAMN Canada soft asl if these disturbing, spent most the time skipping into the “upsetting disturbing” part… and I was so fcking bored 😭😭.. “Absolutely concerning” was just as soft, y’all gotta see the PSAs that come out of the US, those are absolutely concerning 😂😂. All love tho bro keep up the good work, your commentary was the only thing that kept me
It’s all about context, seeing this shit as a 6 year old hit different. I have the same reaction to other classic “scary” PSAs from the USA because seeing them now isn’t nearly as bad. That being said US PSAs did really love using straight up shocking imagery more that we did, the CCA was all about vibes really
