wanna know something funny? the cheapie war also happened in rivals of aether, same name and all and it was caused by characters labelled "[x number]% accurate [character name]" and ronald edits
One creator that wasn’t mentioned to my knowledge was Omegapsycho who mostly makes Mortal Kombat characters. What sets his apart from others though is that you can actually perform fatalities on any character!
Well worth the wait. It's exceedingly rare to find longform mugen content even though it's pretty rife for the stuff. Appreciate the hell you must've went through to compile info for this series lol 👍
As a Mugen creator, I appreciate the effort you put into this iceberg series. 🙏🙏🙏 As far as I know about the character of the month award in Mugen fighters guild is that one of the admins of the site starts a thread asking members to name what they think is the best character released in the previous month (they can suggest 3 or 4 characters only) and the characters with the biggest numbers of suggestions in the thread goes in a poll where anyone can vote for a character for a certain amount of time and the character with the most votes wins obviously. Fun fact: one of my creations which is MvC1 Morrigan was part of the voting a couple of months ago and finished 3rd if I remember correctly, I didn't win but I still feel proud of my work.
Alright, so I have a friend who's dabbled in mugen characters and knows a little about the community. I remember a bit ago they told me about some long-time creator who made a long forum post about how they quit mugen char porting/creation because they became super religious and thought of everything as sinful. Fast forward to last night when I'm watching these videos, and I decide to ask my friend, "Who quit mugen because God?" I sent them a gif of Primeus that I THOUGHT was unrelated, only for my friend to tell me that it was, indeed, RicePigeon who raved about how porting copyrighted characters is theft and will land you in hell.
Ironcommando here. _sigh_ I did create A-Bomb around 14+ years ago and it definitely wasn't my best moment due to reasons behind its creation, as well as what its publicity escalated to.
@@sungazercyan Back then, around 14 years ago, I... wasn't a very well-liked person IRL (got bullied and ostracized IRL, which is why I went to MUGEN, to try to get some fame) or well-liked creator in MUGEN (most of my characters were horribly OP for the time's standards). I was arrogant and, attention-seeking, just wanting people to know my name. A-Bomb was actually made out of spite towards my detractors as I just wanted to "blow it all up" also with the intention to make the cheapest character, surpassing even Psycho Shredder, Pacifier, and Omni-Psych Super Dizzy, who weren't cheapies but the most cheap characters of the time. First version of A-Bomb actually didn't have the OTH killer, but then TROY (creator of the then-private 2nd Death Star) soon contacted me and sent me 2DS in private along with the code, he allowed me to use the code in A-Bomb. And that's how A-Bomb became the first public cheapie and stayed that way for a few months, until Angle Draw Sphere became the first character to kill it (and could kill F1 too, something that A-Bomb couldn't do). That's when the one-upping started to happen.
I had no idea Battle Craze was caught in an iceberg. Lemmie get the dev team to put on their scuba gear to get it back. (Thanks for featuring us! The dev team appreciates the shoutout!)
Suggestion: You should take a look at Chuchoryu's characters, while they usually have appealing idle animations and art styles, they are infamous in the community due to their characters being buggy, unfinished, and having misleading inputs regarding their movesets. When I first got into mugen, I made the mistake of getting some of their characters thinking they were definitive versions. Might be interesting to take a look at, considering how popular they seem to be with newbie's looking into creating a roster for the first time. They've made a LOT of characters, and are very easy to find on Mugen archive. There's even a parody someone made of Ryu, turning him into a Chuchoryu styled character, complete with bugs and all.
I first saw a mugen iceberg (which you're using in this series) in BackwardsLongJump's video about Mathrus and just had to see if there was an "explained" video about it. Not only are you combining multiple mugen icebergs into one for a definitive series, but you're doing it brilliantly. Impressive. I've subscribed and I'm eager to see future installments.
God, I remember hearing about MUGEN so many years back, always thought it was cool but never clicked with me enough to actually use it. Makes sense it has a MASSIVE amount of detail/culture at this point, sick series!
Suggestion: Psycho Shredder v4.0 Psycho Shredder was one of the classic cheap characters back in the old days, made by DarkMasterS The current version is 3.0, but there was actually supposed to be a 4.0 version of Shredder that was either lost to time or never made at all DarkMasterS said that he would release 4.0 if people solved extremely cryptic riddles, those riddles never got solved, and DarkMasterS ended up leaving before people could solve it
Once again a blessing to see content from you and I've been interested in this question lately: Since you are aware of what roblox is, judging by your self-insert, are you aware of the community that re-creates mugen characters on the platform? It's mostly centered around cheapies, however it's quite interesting to see how they are made and used outside their origin engine. Same shenanigans in mugen too; Constantly trying to one-up themselves and being tested against eachother, usually around something that uses a lot of methods of killing said cheapies (i.e Undefined Universe).
I was not aware of this whatsoever that sounds real sick. Actually, and despite my character, I'm not really all that active on roblox. I really just like it for the avatar creation
I thought that's closer to the whole subsection of the script/exploiter community that basically sets out to make those flashy as heck scripts (maybe a bit on the edgy side, too).
Before CPS3/PS2 emulation, some creators made chars from rough videocard rips. IIRC the first ones were MV2 Cable and SFIII Gouki/Akuma, for DOS MUGEN.
I can’t speak in the behalf of specifically MUGEN, but in most fighting games that calculate “fall damage”. But it’s generally a variable in fighting games that calculate how much dmg you take after landing from a hit in the air. Like a character hitting a “spike” at the sky box will deal more dmg than closer to the ground.
As soon as I heard Bootfighter Windom mentioned I was instantly transported back to being in high school and ripping sounds from Gundam vs Zeta Gundam to make custom pilots for that game. There were some really great mods for it too!
im wondering if you will touch upon the curse that starts with v and ends with e a blight that plagues this world and refuses to leave for i derive comedy from such absurdity its funny to me and i dont know why
Wait are you actually talking about vore? Because yeah I don’t think vore characters have their own entry but I can cover that in the nsfw entry for sure I know there’s a ton of it
Loved watching these videos. They more or less introduced me to MUGEN and its community beyond a basic level, and now I actually wanna download MUGEN and try it out for myself. Will there ever be a part 4?
Yeah eventually. Doing RU-vid is hard enough to balance with like a job and a life and everything but this series is even harder unless I want to sacrifice quality or research or anything. I still very much want to finish the series but unless I suddenly become a full time RU-vidr it’s going to be slow going
Oh boy, the next tier begins the LONG list of cheapies that we have to suffer through one at a time. Mathrus waits at the end of the road. Are you ready to start this journey?
aside from Orochi edits and KOF Memorial, is there a chance you'll add this subcommunity within MUGEN called "KOFMUGEN" into the next tier? Because I believe it does have its fair share of "cheap" characters, fangames & other content (not to mention it also has its own joke edits created like WannaKOF, Chiliyagami, Astolfo, Kyo-666, WatchTV, just to name a few, only because its one of favorite parts of it)
The three tiers I've seen so far are absolutely great in quality and content, and I look forward to the next ones! But by god I cry a little each time you say moo-jen and eye-kemen, especially since you already know and have addressed that they're being said incorrectly. You do you, my guy, I understand a decade of muscle memory on saying things, but I humbly request in future tiers to give the right pronunciations a shot, since other than that little thing the videos are top-tier content (no pun intended lol)
I swear I have tried, I will give it a shot in my next video but I’m not promising anything the brain goblins are too strong unfortunately But also how is IKEMEN supposed to be pronounced? That I can definitely fix I thought I was cleared on that one though
@@sungazercyan I absolutely understand the brain goblins and how hard they are to fight off, I won't hold it against you if they end up being too strong. As for IKEMEN, it'd be more like ee-kemen, so very similar to how you already say it, just an 'ee' sound at the beginning instead of 'eye'. It sucks that writing Japanese in English follows so many different rules than just reading English naturally.
I'm honestly shocked that Kong and his Marvel vs. Capcom 2 characters aren't here, specifically their AI's Kong's MVC2 chars all come with a changeable AI setting, that even at normal difficulty provides a challenge. However, setting them to the hardest difficulty will turn them into absolute MONSTERS, with some including Omega Red being able to face an older version of Rare Akuma and not just provide actual competition, but is able to WIN This also may be due to the characters playing like their turbo mode counterparts, with extremely low input lag allowing them to execute combos very easily Anyways I absolutely LOVE this series so far, genuinely cannot WAIT for the deepest tiers !!!
Reading into the actual icebergs, maybe I missed something in there because that is a lot of text to parse, but I'm disappointed to not see anything MelvanaInChains/Alter_Ambia related in there at all (especially since she used to collab with The_None and together they co-created Alter_Amiba)
Suggestion: An entry on InSeph's Character Academy, feel like it's a noteworthy thing to talk about due to how big of an effect it's had on the quality of JUS characters.
Suggestion: Derrick D. Rowell and WlanmaniaX/Wlanman, two MUGEN creators known for their MUGEN cartoon character fighters. Though, one (or even both of them) is a bit infamous in the MUGEN community. Also, you pronounced Blazblue wrong. I think it's Blaize-bloo, not Blahz-bloo.
If this video did not mention it can you talk about some creator I have been hearing about called Josh Geary, because from what I have heard ,he’s very infamous
@@sungazercyan, ok, I am aware of him because his “creations” have appeared in the everyone hates series a couple times, Which is where I became familiar with him Also andersonkenya1 is how I became very familiar with Mugen
@@sungazercyan Also while I like some of vore characters(I watched a lot of Mugen videos and some of them involving vore characters), I feel there has been enough tasteless vore characters to give them a very bad rep.
@@Wolf-oc6tx yeah I mean having a kink is fine and expressing that in a character isn’t anything out of the ordinary but there’s definitely room for controversy there
@@sungazercyan What I personally find tasteless is trying to shoehorn it into a character(for example say a innocent character like princess peach or a character that just feels unsexy to include it in) rather then say do what MK did by making Mileena(basically they should craft a character where it would feel natural rather then tasteless, it feels natural when Mileena uses it as a fatality move). The other thing I feel is in bad taste is posting it without checking the site rules and giving content warnings.
Also, here's a thing, no, peg didn't make Colonel edits ever, he only did the original Colonel Sanders character that was edited multiple times by me and other people
I wonder if you can talk about the metal slug chars and some the creatora related to them one of them having a massive hate towards M.U.G.E.N archive for having ppl who post his work there without any consent
Hearing _that_ name again when Jetgoshi's Sceptile was brought up triggered a visceral reaction within me. -Not only that, but it wasn't even spelled correctly...- Heck, seeing Jetgoshi's Sceptile during his segment in general made me all sorts of uncomfortable, personally. I get not wanting to use one of his other characters, since like 90% of his chars were spriteswaps, but...still.
@@sungazercyan Not Jetgoshi, the other guy. The one with a D- in their name. Would rather avoid using the full name since the alias itself has been disowned by it's owner, but you know who I'm talking about.
Okay I’m aware WHO you’re talking about but I still have no idea what the problem is here. If there’s some kind of controversy with this guy then I have no clue what it is because nothing came up with either his old or new alias
turns out there's an unsafe (external) version of XXX_Giygas i would put a link the the showcase video but yt already shadow-banned my comments 2 times because of it
