@@lewstone5430 this slope is actually more similar to most grassland hillsides you see rolling throughout most of CA. It's not the same as the ocean undercutting the cliffs I think you're referring to. In other words, this particular risk here isn't necessarily avoided by moving inland unless you're moving to a flat area- but even those areas carry flood risks.

Eco-friendly, yes; effective against surface erosion, possibly; effective against a major slope failure as is hinted at in the images here, not at all. It looks like this slope was cut steeper to make space for that road and four large duplexes, so the soil at the surface now is not that great to support deep-rooted plants that could possibly help, a little. It's also going to be more compact than the former surface layers, so it's not going to lose water during rainy periods. Marginal engineering analysis under a limited range of conditions, definitely inadequate for the occasional big weather periods.

@@boblatkey7160 It would be wise to cover all the California specific contingencies. This system can be considered a "trigger" event and landslides and flooding are just the tip. No one ever told us that it was an "if", just a when. I am concerned the when is closer than people are aware. The last thing California needs is a greasing of the bearings.

Rain and especially heavy rain comes with consequences just like heat waves drought do as well. It is best to be prepared.

When there is that much in a short amount of time, it can be problematic. But we also need the rain very badly. I guess that's too complicated for some people to understand ....
