Back then there were so many people hating this performance just because of appereance of singer, but the song, performance itself is AMAZING and you can't deny it
I think this was the whole point. To make people LISTEN to the music and judge the song itself rather then looks of an artist. And to start the conversation about people who don't conform to the "standards".
True. And I thought, it wouldn’t be my kind of artist at all, but I loved it actually. The song is amazing. I found it quite interesting to let go of the artist’s appearance and judge only the song and the performance, the vocal range. I wasn’t sure, if I am able to, but I was. It’s still one of my favourites on ESC.
I was 14 during this Eurovision, and didn't get this song at all. I was really confused why it won. But, 9 years later - it is literally one of my faves of all time. It's aged like a fiiiine wine
I got very confused when I read "9 years later". Then I realised that 2014 was indeed 9 years ago and I'm absolutely terrified, I'm still not out of 2019
It's 2023 and i still get goosebumps everytime I listen to this song like it's the first time i listen to it. This will be forever the best and the most iconic Eurovision song!!
Yeah! Looking at this again, I'm surprised cuz there's absolutely no gimmicks or extras or even backup dancers/singers, they just threw Conchita on there with special stage effects, that's all And it's just so. good! Not to say I don't love the outrageous acts
Actually just listened to the studio version and there's one tiny detail I actually prefer in the live performance, at 2:25 she pauses just a fraction of a second longer which imo works better
I swear I hated this song in 2014 because I was young and dumb (like "oh Conchita just won because of her appearance etc etc") but now I see this song as a total masterpiece, and definitly legit for the next James Bond Movie!!
Yeah, my parents did not let me watch their performance. And I felt like something is wrong with me, because I knew something was different about me. Then years later I found myself. And now looking back to this song, the performance. There was no cheating, they did not win because of the look, or being LGBTQ, they where singing from their heart, it is amazing, and I am sooo happy, that I found this song again. So powerful, meaningfull, beautiful song, and the voice is just amazing.
GWFStevenRPlain wurst is a Sausage in Germany. But yeah. I admire Conchita Wurst's performance. He sang that song as strong as he could, that's what made him win . Even though hes gay, i don't really care, he is what he is, i am what I am, if i cannot respect his Personality, that means i can't respect my own self. Easy as fudge. We're all equal.
"ONCE I'M TRANSFORMED, ONCE I'M REBORN I WILL RISE LIKE A PHOENIX OUT OF THE ASHES. I RISE UP TO THE SKY, I'M GONNA FLY" - dramatic song causes goosebumps
When I first heard Conchita doing this number I was bowled over by the powerful vocal - I couldn't believe it! I even bought the album. I still get a thrill listening to the phoenix. Bravo Conchita!
All these years later and people still don’t get it “conchita is a character” …. And a beautiful one at that … this is the best performance EVER at Eurovision !!! Don’t like it don’t listen /watch there’s millions that love her and always will … Thankyou Conchita this song and “Hit me “ saved my life ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
He's a male (also bearded) and he doesn't deny it (an appreciable thing), a golden dress (stunning), make up and long hair doesn't make someone a woman (substain otherwise is sexist)... Say that, it still a wonderful performance ^-^
Ipazia Mercury I just saw a Show where Conchita talked to “self” in third person and used “she”. I don’t know and don’t care which gender Conchita identifies. I am the last person who wants to restrict (or something else) someone.
Point out biological reality isn't a "restriction" (I could "identify" as a cat but not become a feline, then he could dress however he wants), with all the human respect towards Conchita (a great artist) ^-^ Then, you could believe as you want (and act consequently) ^-^
Ipazia Mercury I don’t really get what you are saying because English isn’t my mother language. I don’t know if you talk about me using “restrict” or not, I just used it because I don’t know a better word to say what I mean. I don’t think no one can be more tolerant than me. I let people live and accept everything even if they identify as a cat.
@@ipaziamercury9942 it's never a good idea to assume how someone identifies. With that being said, if someone is choosing to present in this way, to call them by male pronouns isn't wise.
Необыкновенное исполнение,песня и лицо Кончиты,излучающее добро,любовь.Она прекрасна,как и это исполнение,музыка,песня.2023 год,а я ее слушаю и она опять вызывает во мне эти чувства и эмоции
it's not homophobic to be straigh, despite all the hormones and the surgery he had he's a man. if he wants to be a woman no problem it's his life, but accepting homosexuality for others is different than promoting it and saying little kids who hasn't discovered sexuality yet, that it's ok to have your dick removed and the face feminised by surgery (or worse to say that this the march of social progress) television made enough damage with young girls who now wants to weight no more than 80 pounds, and ask their parents for face operations at 10 years old, or take miley cirus as an example this is satanic manipulation
I remember the first time I saw this I was like "WTF?!" "Disgusting creature" "they must die"!! But after a while I was like "that was weird, I wonder how they're like in real life..." So I clicked on 33 a mins long interview of her thinking "I'll only see 2 mins", but she turned out to be the most awesome person in the world!!! I finished the whole interview and searched for others!! So thank you conchita for teaching me not judge by the surface and that everyone is a beautiful human inside
Good for you. I used to think transgendered people were just way fucked-up but then I actually met and worked with a few. After asking lots of questions of them and learning who they were as just people and why they made the decision they made, well I just learned to accept it and even understand why they made that choice. Actually one of them became one of my best friends and I love him dearly.
It's good that you changed your mind, but it was very wrong of you to initially think "disgusting creature, they must die". I understand that you were shocked, but that was the intention. You can't make changement without creating a shock.
Nikola Curcic it makes me so sad, that people like you are proud to say something, u remember the time were hitler was? well if u lived in the 3rd rich u would have been killed so please think one moment before u speak.
This was the last ESC I watched before i had my kids and it's still such a present memory! I can still see myself sitting in front of the TV with my jaw dropped like "where did this voice come from?" and now, 9 years later, I still get goosebumps, it was such a phenomenal performance! Yesterday I saw some guy in The Voice Romania, his name was Sandro, and he did such an amazing version of this song that I just had to come back here and listen to Conchita once more.
Great performance. Doesn't deserve all those dislikes. People should accept differences, they make the world more interesting. Plus Conchita owned that song.
If we should accept these then we should accept the people who kills.it is same as conchita is male-female then killers are good-bad people so we accept the deaths.ARE Y MAD?
***** What? To make it clear - Tom is NOT transsexual, and isn't even planning similar things, and he's not the only man on the Earth that doesn't like women. There are lots of people that don't have straight orientation but they can be beautiful as personalities. :). Well, I see no meaning to argue, I just said my opinion.
У меня мурашки от этой песни. Мне все равно, как выглядит исполнитель, это его личное дело. Спасибо за такую прекрасную песню! Крылья расправляются, когда слушаешь!❤

Oh my god. I was like 16 when I saw this first time. I remember how I was laughing with my dad and we both thought that was disgusting. Well, now I am here in Russia listening to this and thinking “what a queen”
@@agni_oh most of the people used double standards when we were talking about freedom of speech, rights, etc. Your position doesn't work in real life, just look at your answer as an example. I just have another view of these things. And I accept that you disagree with me but you can't, and that's the problem. Your freedom ends where mine begins.
Hans Panzy Lol, well maybe its better for gay couples to adopt orphans so at least they'll have parents when their reals ones abandoned them because they were inadequate to take care of them. And like you said, heteros give birth to gays, maybe you should blame them for making gay people gay, rather than blaming gays for being born gay.
Me too, but just LOOK at how supportive the audience in the video is of Wurst. As a boy they only felt comfortable trying on skirts in the attic when none of their family/friends were home. Now, they're out and they have people around the world supporting them; so don't lose hope just yet! :D
Ceasar-Look at it as God/Universe/Creator...shaking the gold from the dust. Think of a goldminer mining for gold with that pan that has holes in it. The holes are for the riff-raff of humanity to go back into the stream and hopefully transform into something, useful. For the record, I am straight/hetero female, in my friggin 50's and I love Conchita Wurst. Humanity is not indicative of 'acceptance' of those who outshine their own shadow. For the dustpan amoebas, that is a lesson they have yet to learn. Probably not in this lifetime, though. Sigh~~
***** I'm 19, and I was just sharing my opinion same way you're expressing yours. As for the things I do personally, it's not your business telling me what and what not to do.
i remember being 15 and seeing this performance. i was glued to the tv. my whole family went to bed after they announced her win. i stayed to her perform one last time. i was bawling. icon. hero. legend. 💜💜💜
@@aturtle8904 my 9 year old self was very confused 'why does pretty lady have a beard like dad?' I thought. I remember loving this performance though. I'm still shocked how long it took me to figure out I was a lesbian and coming back here was glorious.
Obviously he is a cis man. This is drag, performance, show, work of art. Although, of course, also man can and do use make up, lipstick, shoes with high heals, wigs, artificial eyelashes, everyone can do it. If that’s what cause confusion.
This performance gave me such inspiration and hope! When someone is struggling with life and its many challenges music and performance like this help the phoenix in all of be reborn!
It's not just the vocal skills, it's the power of her message. This is HER song, and she embodies it from the deepest bit of her heart. You can only deliver a performance like this when you mean what you are saying and you're feeling it as a statement of what you are.
@@ernabeier8325 a human being is whatever they feel like being called, regardless of their genes or what's between their legs. Gotta respect each other's life decisions. Regards 😊
I'm genuinely surprised people are changing their homophobic views because of Conchita. Seems like you are dragging some people out of the depth of ignorance into the sunlight. Well done!
anonym bigotry remains alive and well with long our community. Conchita is incredibly talented, witty and intelligent. You, on the other hand, are a troll who can’t even accept the diversity within our own community. Bye x
My husband is Austrian. He told me a while ago that the people of Austria petitioned for Conchita to be removed from the Eurovision coverage. I spoke with him on the phone a few minutes ago to tell him that she got through to the final and even though he hates Eurovision and X Factor and all the camp, guilty-secret TV that I love, he was absolutely thrilled. I hope Europe votes for her, I hope she wins, and I hope the Austrians are forced to host the contest next year on the back of her success. We live in difficult times and the most basic lesson we must learn is tolerance. We are all free to express ourselves. Wearing a dress with a full beard might not be for you, it's certainly not for my husband, but you must must MUST respect Conchita's right to do so.
The story is a bit different or at least there are parts missing. Until 2013 people could vote for the singer that should represent Austria at the ESC. Conchita already presented a song in 2013 and became second which shows that a lot of people supported her. When the selection process was changed in 2014 and Conchita was chosen by an expert jury some people were outraged. Some of them complained because they were transphobic, but some simply wanted to be able to vote again. Conchita has already had a big fan base in Austria before she won the ESC.
Lovely Russians and citizens from Eastern European countries: You wanted to enter Eurovision back in the 90s, and we welcomed you with open arms. It's great to have cultural diversity. BUT now you have to respect us. Western Europeans are tolerant with homosexuality, transsexuality and all people just for who they are. If you are willing to accept this, great; if not, just leave the contest. We won't miss you. You can't just arrive the last and try to impose your will over the rest. THANKS, CONCHITA. JUST THANK YOU.
The BEST ESC performance EVER! Also an *amazing* song written by Julian Maas, Charlie Mason, Joey Patulka, Alexander Zuckowski and lyrics by Charley Mason. Please remember that Eurovision started as a composers competition.
For what it's worth, I'm a christian straight guy, but I strongly support Conchita's cause. You do it your way, I'll do mine and everyone should find his own way of being comfortable and satisfied. We're really all different in our single way, but at the same time we're all the same kind: humans. No one wants to be excluded or judged... it causes hurts and it's not fair to people who mean no wrong. And as simple as it sounds, just love each other, it's a God-given gift we humans should put more to practice. So congrats Conchita, RESPECT!
To you, the person scrolling down to see the comments. Stop, cause all you're gonna get are homophobic, transphobic, and bigoted individuals cursing at her and being utterly cruel. Conchita deserved to win; so much power to her! Congrats Austria x
For y'all still fighting over this, she's a drag queen. So when she is performing as Conchita Wurst, she's a woman. As for who she is when she isn't performing, he could be a man, might not be.
Woah..... 12 points to Austria. In this case, that is the first time I REALLY want to hear that. Totally deserved. Perfect performance. Wonderful voice. Respect to the bravery.
I remember watching this as a little gay boy and being worried that if I liked it, people might find out I was gay.... now all I can think it that this song is great and Conchita genuinely looks gorgeous 👏🏻 such a great voice!
Even though, we might not forget the awesome, astonishing artists russia has shown, i indeed agree with you. Conchita is one of my favourites of all time
It’s amazing to see how much growth has taken place in just six years. Many of us were homophobic teens back then who just regurgitated our environment’s opinions, while now we are educated and loving LGBTQ+ allies. You go queen❤️
what does lgbt has to do with this? conchita is only a stage image, the singer is not a trans woman. i bet if it wasn't known that he was gay, there wouldn't be any criticism concerning his performance.
It wasn’t actually in a James Bond film and because it came out a few years back I don’t think it’s going to be and bond 25 so it would’ve been good as a James Bond soundtrack but I don’t think it ever will be sadly
Rebecca Eve Is a dude. get over it. This man is infested with mental disorders and desperately needs psychiatric help along with a padded cell and a complementary straight jacket. To the leftie, inner city narcissistic, trendy hipsters that voted for this deranged man ought to be ashamed of themselves. Clearly, in a desperate attempt to look 'alternative' they've subjected this poor man to self delusion rather than a structured psychiatric program to regain strong mental and cognitive health.
It’s honestly nice seeing how many people have back to this song in this years following this song to show how much they’ve changed as people and I just wanted to say I’m really proud of you ❤❤
I am from country where is this song and her/his performance very scandalous. Some people think the Eurovision went down from the hill because they saw or heard this song. I think this song is something which somebody of us need in their life. This song is about confidence and believing in ourselves I think. This message is very important. We must stop judge other people because they look very different. We must change our minds and accept that everyone of us is unique just the way they are.
So extremely proud to be Austrian! I was only 4 years old bud now I realise how amazing concita actually is. It gives me still goosebumps. Fully deserved win
+sawyers Exactly, "Conchita Wurst" is female persona, portrayed by Tom Neuwirth, who is most certainly a man. It's kinda interesting because he refers to himself using male pronouns, but talks about Conchita with female ones. In a way, both are correct, but I do think "she" makes more sense when talking about "Conchita" the persona.
I was a little Turkish gay boy when this song released. And sad but true, because of I wasn't fully accepted my own identity yet, I was not what should I feel when I listen this song. My mind did kinda deny them. But also I was really curious about to understand them. I also did keep myself away from watching their performance. Maybe I succeeded it. But I always deeply respected them for his courage, for their presense. So after a long while (now I'm 23) I came here as fully embraced myself 🤗 I am really proud and admired by them. 🌈🌈🌈
The amount of dislikes and negative comments are so pathetic and sad. Who cares what gender Conchita is (I believe they're gender-neutral), Conchita has a kick-ass voice. It's 2014, get over the fact that non-binary genders exist...
He's actually a man who dresses up as a woman. "Conchita Wurst" is a character he plays to get across his message of tolerance and human rights. He wears a wig and doesn't have boobs. He is a man in his early twenties. I'm from Austria, and we know him as "Tom Neuwirth" here.
iWillWakeYouUp So when she speaks about herself in a way that indicates she's genderfluid, as she has in recent interviews, it's all Conchita, the persona? Genuine question.
The performance was AMAZING, and so is Conchita. I think Austria can possibly win. The cheers from the audience have never been that loud. Best of luck, from Sweden!
I'm not sure if the response of the audience is a real indicator of success in eurovision. Isn't it probable that a lot of people who are present at the live shows come from (for example) neighboring countries of Denmark? I think this can have a huge influence on the way the audience responds, as not every culture is as "open" towards Conchita's act. This being said, I really hope she'll do well in the competition!
DAFAF FAFAF Well Greece always has a lot of fans despite often sending mediocre songs, and up tempo songs always get the audience screaming and clapping more than ballads.
Elisabeth Abraham Yes, that's true. I was just stating that, because I thought it was really beautiful that the audience accepted Conchita :) I still think she has a good chance at winning. However it's really hard to say which song will win, because there a a couple songs that also have a great chance.
She is truly wonderful. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to face reality and realize that yes, a man in drag can win Eurovision. And that there shouldn't be anything disgusting or 'abnormal' about it.
ok, guys...I am Austrian...and I am more into alternative/punk/metal...but: when I first heard this song, at random...on the radio..I thought! wow!! what a song!! and later I recognized that it was "our" song and Conchita sings...so...forget about the beard! relax! and listen! listen to the song, feel the emotional power and listen to the lyrics!! So...you'll find out why this is the winner of ESC 2014 ;) LOVE out! greetings from Vienna! :)
I was sending work emails (on a Saturday night - sad I know). This happened to be on in the background, but hearing the song I had to look up and was transfixed. Had to watch the rest of the contest just to see how this wonderful singer and song did, and was so pleased when she won. A beautiful song, a wonderful performance, and Conchita was so humble and delighted by the response from the audience. A truly uplifting event.
People belittle Eurovision but this is one of the most ICONIC performances in music. Even first watching it on Eurovision I could feel how powerful this song was even though I was mainly focused on Conchita
