On June 3rd, 1995 I flew from New York to London on British Airways Concorde G-BOAB.
Concorde "Speedbird" Flight 4 departed New York at noon.
We touched down in London around 8pm.
Supersonic flight time was 3 hours and 20 minutes.
We reached a top speed of Mach 2.1 (twice the speed of sound).
Cruised on the edge of space at 55,000 feet.
I was completely awe-struck as I gazed at the curvature of the Earth below, and the blackness of space above.
Passengers sipped endless glasses of Dom Perignon, while devouring Beluga Caviar and other sensational First Class dishes.
Note: A Concorde carries 100 passengers at full capacity, but there were only a mere 25 on this flight.
It was an incredible, bucket list experience that I will never forget. Fortunately I have salvaged 9 minutes of VHS video that I took on board the flight (these VHS tapes are now deteriorating with age).
I count my lucky stars at how fortunate I was to have flown on and enjoyed this amazing piece of aviation engineering that is no longer in our skies.
This particular Concorde (G-BOAB) is located next to the threshold of Runway 27L at London's Heathrow Airport and can be seen from Hatton Cross and Myrtle Avenue.
Please enjoy my onboard footage.
