“I was orphaned at 11, so wild animals became my support network,” Nai Palm, the frontwoman for the Grammy-nominated Hiatus Kaiyote, tells us. Everything she says about animals and how naturally empathic they are, I agree with 1000%. I was also very much nurtured by a female bullmastiff as a child, and thank the gods for her, she was my rock. She gave me presence when no one else would. Also, when she says "My beauty is my understanding of the world"; so true, lady! A grounded, open-minded, curious, sensitive person is someone everybody wants to be around. Your presentation was amazeballs, thanks so much and keep rocking hard!

This project is by far the best thing I´ve seen on RU-vid. I hope this can reach everyone, specially women and girls, that struggle to love themselves under all this perfected-beauty stereotype that moves us away from seeing people for what they are. Omg I love her and this made me tear up. No wonder why I felt so moved by Hiatus Kaiyote's music. A few weeks ago I saw them perform in Chicago and I was blown away and I felt so free to be able to experience such beauty. It was an outer body experience and the crowd was loving it. Her comparison with a transient life, adoption and being a caretaker of animals addressed so many things (grief, abandonment, love, being a caretaker, being cared for, dysfunctional dynamics, limits/boundaries, holding onto memories while providing freedom etc)

Nai Palm is a genius in her own right, I love her soulful voice. I have been listening to her voice for about 6 months now and decided a few days ago to see who was behind that beautiful voice. Well, I was blown away and totally surprised with what I found. Not a black woman but a white woman, surprise or should I say shocker #1. Then I stared to look into Hiatus Kaiyote the band, shocker # 2, this is an all white band from Australia I think. The music they put out is so soulful, colorful, beautiful and super creative. This band has has got it right! I am very big into R&B and Hiatus Kaiyote is at the top of my list for good. Thanks to Spotify I found you guys. Keep up the great work and I hope to someday see you live in the USA.

I saw Hiatus Kaiyote perform when I was living in Perth. they played a venue down my road and I only got a ticket because the poster looked cool. To this day it is the best live performance I have experienced and we had the pleasure of meeting Nai Palm after and she was so engaging and so alive with everyone there. Truly she is as beautiful as this interview would suggest

There's a lot of people that don't come out of situations like that whole, or at all. It's something she should be very proud of. But, having come up in a less than ideal familial setting myself; I can say that every day is a struggle to not feel like an emotional cripple. This one got me... hard. I'm awestruck and envious of her ability to throw this out there into the world. I was already crushing on this girl, what with the awesome sounds and the amazing persona. Now... I just want to stare at those big eyes all day and night.

one of the things I find most wonderful about her is how extremely different we are. I have lived my entire childhood in one home, never changing schools, and watching people just pass through the small town I live in. I have a very distinct home in that sense. To me, she is a humbling display of how different people experience completely different things, and how their views can change your perspective. I teared up with her during these stories, and I feel massive respect for her. what a wonderful human being she is.

The story about the coyote comforting 11 year old her was so beautiful. He/she sensed your troubled soul. I live in the suburbs but there's a creek in my backyard. I've seen a white coyote wandering around our neighborhood a few times, what majestic beautiful creatures.
