Released in early-1965, but failing to reach the Billboard Top 40, peaking at #43 on February 20, after spending just seven weeks on the Hot 100. In its review of the single, Billboard praised it as a "big, beautiful country-flavored ballad with a top performance by Connie. Class and commercialism combined".

I think the record before this, "Don't Ever Leave Me", was an absolute belter, but suffered a similar fate, #42, probably because of the emphasis on the groups. Connie's voice, remarkably, only improved. I don't think there's an equal in pop history ; there may be if you judge by chart success, but not if you judge by musical quality.

Another great song by Connie Francis that should have charted higher than it did, but I don't think #43 is bad out of the Top Hot 100 records at that time. The British Invasion was dominating the charts at this particular time so many American pop artists were not getting the air time they deserved.

Poor Connie must hold the record for getting lied to and being made a fool of in her recordings! But she was "crying" all the way to the bank! Audiences loved it.

this wonderful song reminds me of my late mommy, she loves to listen to this song so much using our old rca victor phonhraph with her 33 lp for mama album, until now . i play it on google and sing along with it, beautifully done by no other than the one and only connie francis, one song i like to is her version of al di la - allan

Thanks so much for posting this. What a gem sung by the woman who, IMO, was the greatest female vocalist of the era. I remember 1965 very well and don't recall ever hearing this. It did peak at #43 but didn't make the Top 100 for the year. Too bad that the British Invasion overwhelmed so many outstanding American artists, but I guess I contributed by being a teenager who thought the "new" stuff was cool. Will always love Connie.

I don't think this song was outstanding enough for its lack of success to be attributed to anything outside of its own merits. And I LOVE her overall body of work. Peace.😊
