@@mightbeanerd So looks like you just have to have beaten the game, not actually be on a NG+. I only played Chrono Trigger as a rental, so I guess that's why I ate shit.

Yeah it sucks that a lot of us were like Connor. I wasted hours on games like Call of Duty or Fortnite when I was never interested in that type of stuff. They're good games but not for me. Simply cause my friends all played them, I did too, just for the social aspect of it. But now, none of those "friends" are ever online or I never play with them, so all that time felt pointless. There were some good memories, but I just wish I didn't spend that much time on them over games I actually liked (like JRPGs). Cause of that, I'm always having to catch up or backlog these games lol

@@RebornFlames1 Well... luckily I had friends that played JRPG and watched animes and influenced me over to the dark side. I did waste time playing league of legends tho...

That reminds me of a reddit post online asking if you should play League of Legends before watching the Arcane show, and even the LoL gamers were advising not to.

@@RebornFlames1 i so heavily resonate with your comment basically all threw out my gaming experience since childhood up until like my sophomore year of high school all i cared about was fps mainly call of duty i look back at my extremely high hour counts with disgust i got like 1700 hours on black ops 3 another 1000 on destiny had tons of fun playing them with friends but those hours counts on a single game is ridiculous no matter what ,so basically yea since my sophomore ive been like connor where i had to play catch up to all these other highly regarded games like chrono trigger im 24 atm and im STILL playing catch up theres just soooo many amazing games out there and so little time to actually play them

@@CowDriller its not possible to catch up especially now since steam releases 15k games a year. I'm 32 years old and I played chrono trigger when I was 15 by the time I was 18 I had already played all the final fantasy from 1 to 10, had watched about 100 animes and read like 20 mangas. Its 2024 and in one season there's easily 60+ animes only 10 or less that you would actually watch. So if you're a zoomer or Gen Alpha you can't catch up, you can only enjoy and give a chance to what's already considered to be good as to not waste time

For me personally, getting into the zenithian trilogy first with dq 4 and 5 was a good start for the stories and characters. But the Erdrick trilogy remake looks to be amazing to see what they can spruce up from the originals

Trails in the Sky games are so damn good The entire Trails series ranges from "okay" to "wow gdamn this is something else" IMO Sky SC is my fav so far, still in the middle of CS4

I disagree. He wasn't a fan of ff8s story, he'll definitely not be a fan of CCs. Killer soundtrack though

@@crono276I was definitely expecting Connor not to enjoy 8 a ton, I think he’s glad he played it though. It’s cool to see him play through the older games. All the final fantasy games from six through ten are so good idk if I could ever call them better than the other because of how different they can be. Great experiences for anyone who’s interested in rpg history.

@@cypher838 Ehh its not that bad if he's playing mostly the main quest and doing side quests sparingly. Especially in definitive edition it would be 60 hours or so. Xenoblade 2 would be a barrier of entry though.

That’s my exact same problem with p5, whenever I want to replay it, it’s a slog having to go through the exact same thing over again

@@Broomy985 Exactly, whereas something like P3R lets you interact with the actual gameplay loop much sooner.

@@forgeryyy if you follow the mantra of having to do absolutely everything and get every character to max level. Playing through the main story can easily be done in under 30 hours.

@@Teddy_L0ve No way. I was only following the main story and at hour 40 I was only halfway through. 30 hours is barely the real story

DQ11 was alright... i liked that after the "ending" the game kept going and you could do much more storywise.. but the story itself was nothing special. i recently finished the One Piece odyssey jrpg. it reminded me ALOT of DQ11 (same engine and look and similar loop). but the story and fights felt better and fresher.

Old Dragon Quest games are way to grind heavy. I think it's awful game design if games require grinding to complete. In Chrono trigger you don't have to grind one second to beat the game.

@@Finalras Well of course I'm not talking about the NES original, but the remaker. And Grinding exists in Final Fantasy, so it's not that big of a deal, and it's not awful game design to have a built in easy mode.

@@thomasffrench3639 It's not awful if it's just a few minutes here and there, but when I gave DQ 4 a try it was litterally just going from one grind session to another. Was unplayable for me. Grind to beat the boss and and then you can't even bbeat the normal enemys in the next area and have to grind again, repeat forever. That doens't make the game harder or anything, it's just a waste of time.

@@Finalras When I played 4, I rarely had that issue. But I totally get that.

@@thomasffrench3639 maybe it get's better later, but the beginning is awful and it was even worse in 7 where the main feature of the game (job change) gets intoduced like 10+ hours into the game and before it's literally just boring ranom quests where you just mash A in fights cause you have almost no skills or magic. If that's not awful game design then I don't know what is.

Yeah if you don’t like the grid-like combat setup it’s super hard to get into it. I think I only started enjoying them a few years ago after I focused on jrpgs with a genuinely good story (which can be hard if you have no idea what’s rated highly), but even with great story some find the combat to be too hard of a “stomp on the breaks!” type of thing. I think after a couple years you find yourself wanting to try something new see about finding a modern JRPG where they try to get into more action and less grind. Either way wish you the best!

@@Redroomjjgfd It is not the games with grid-based movement that I have a problem with. It is the games where you stand in two lines with no movement at all.

I think you would probably enjoy the more Actiony RPG games where you have total control of your Player/Party members rather than the traditional classic Turn-Based Battle style games. Most MMORPGs are more Action based, but my personal favorite & recommendation is Square's "Secret of Mana"/Seiken Densetsu series or Falcom's Ys series!!

you might not think so, but he majority does, it's consistently ranked #1 on the top RPG lists of all time
